iPhone Classic™

:p
Exactly what I call mine!

People often mock me for having such an 'old' phone. It boggles my mind that people feel the need to constantly upgrade. The iPhone SE has proven to be a solid purchase and the only qualm I have is that the battery seems to be dying, but given the 'classic' design I can always replace that myself.

Going to be interest to see what they a) think is good value these days and b) actually release before committing to buying the new one.

Sure, of course. But those days are numbered I suspect. As for the SE, I wonder if Apple could possibly keep costs low by tapping into their acquired Intel assets now.
It’ll probably have the same modem as the 8, Intel’s XMM 7480. Unless a later chip is less expensive. Maybe a later chip just to pick up some additional LTE frequencies.

In any case, it would seem very likely to be an Intel modem, unless part of the Qualcomm settlement was a supply agreement that allows for dirt-cheap pricing that would be lower than the Intel-branded modems they currently use.

The iPhone SE form factor but all-screen would be perfect.

Even if they could make an all-screen iPhone SE... I don't think Apple will make a phone with a body that small anymore.

It would be SO much smaller than anything they've made lately... with a very tiny battery too.

It just doesn't seem like a road Apple wants to go down anymore.

I have a 6s, it’s even older than your SE 😂 re: pricing, the low end has been $449 for awhile. The rumors say $399 but that’s Kuo and he has approximately zero sources with respect to pricing. But $399 is a decent educated guess.

However, as a better iPhone 8, I think it will probably release at $449. A mid-season replacement at the same price point. The fall lineup will probably have the 11 at $599 so I think at $399 it would be too low.

Maybe it drops to $399 in March 2021, like the SE went from $399 to $349.

Yeah, I'm expecting an iPhone 7 with upgraded internals. Apple has gotten to the point where they can't really make "surprise & delight" a priority anymore. I want to believe, but reality is what it is.

I hope they're going for the iPhone 7 design, not the iPhone 8.

The full metal chassis is much more pleasant to hold for me than the glass back of the 8.

Apple has an opportunity to hit one out of the park, if they listen to their users and not bean-counters.

“ it's not expected to be as small as the original ‌iPhone‌ SE”

The SE cult won’t be happy😆

I’ve been saying for years there won’t be another SE with it’s useless tiny screen.

I know you’re joking, but reducing the screen size from 6.1 to 5.4” couldn’t drop the price $200. If they made that iPhone now, it would probably be priced the same as the iPhone 11, or maybe $649. It’s likely harder to make a 5.4” iPhone 11 than the current 6.1”.

The rumors say an upgraded iPhone 8, but I guess it could be based on the iPhone 6 or 7 🤷‍♂️

iPhone 8 implies wireless charging, and I don’t think they’ll replace the 8 with a less-featureful version, but it really depends on what price target they want to hit.

Apple is confused about replacing the 8 or SE that got a different form factors.
I don’t know what that means.
  • The SE didn’t get a different form factor, it got discontinued due to poor sales.
  • The 8 is still being sold. The “SE2” will be a replacement for the 8, likely at the same price, $449.
This rumor has never had anything to do with a 4” iPhone, although it has much in common with the SE. It’s only analysts and bloggers who have called it SE2.

Has anybody here figured-out "the real reason" Apple is finally now going to Release the SE2 ???

I think I may have.

Here is a hint, think of the impact to iPhone Unit Sales & Revenue that 5G Hype may have from Jan 2020 till the first of the 5G iPhones is announced in Sept.

Things could dry up considerably for AAPL without something like the SE2 !

To my knowledge, NO ONE on Wall Street has yet picked up on this.

I hope it has A13, 4gb ram and brighter screen and better low light camera (single lens is only needed) than the iPhone 6S.

Heck I'll be fine if they even make it thicker, plastic, headphone jack and keep the bezels and home button too.

No. It wouldn't make sense to infer SE not selling well without providing any evidence or regard it as the same form factor as 8.
You can pretend the SE sold well and Apple only discontinued it because they want to make people mad, but what sense does that make? None.

I don’t regard the SE as the same form factor as the 8. The SE has a 4” screen and was discontinued in 2018, with no successor.

The 8 has a 4.7” screen, and has apparently sold well enough to keep in the lineup for now a third year. The rumor is this new low cost iPhone is based on the 8. There’s never been any report that it will be a 4” iPhone. That’s wishful thinking.

The so-called SE2 goes into production in a few weeks. If it were a 4” display, we would have known by now. Actually, probably six months ago. That’s when we got details from reliable sources, and it was reported as 4.7”.

Who knows, maybe it is more than that but very likely to be not dissimilar from your thoughts.

You can see most people are going to be pleased if the new SE got a bigger OLED screen but doesn't look like the size of iPhone 8
The rumors are LCD and size of the 8. Maybe they are wrong though 🤷‍♂️

History is going to repeat itself. In 2016, the 6S was introduced. The 5S (two generations old at this point) drops to ~$450. Then six months later the SE, a 5S with 6S internals, was introduced at $399 and the 5S discontinued.

...fast forward 4 years

11 is introduced, iPhone 8 (also two generations old) price drops to $449. Come March, I see this new "SE", a iPhone 8 with iPhone 11 internals (downsized to 3GB ram most likely), undoubtably at $399 price point with 64GB. Already too much pressure from competitors with better specs even at $399 so any higher will not make sense. As someone just mentioned, OLED screens are already quite prevalent in this price range.

SE sold great! I still know SE holdouts.
You got one right here. Launch-day SE owner, still my daily driver close to 4 years down the road - I need a replacement tho, it's falling apart, but I'm holding off until the new SE/8S/9/whatever it's called comes out.

The SE is not a good phone by today's stantards. I like it, I got it just for the looks and decent specs and for a good price (around 100$) but the screen is too small and I have to charge it like twice a day. Like many others I thought the smaller form factor would be great and it is, until you have to use it for stuff. Comparing it to my 6, the SE's screen felt like a downgrade out of the box. I like it, I'm glad to have bought it, but there's no case for this small form factor anymore.

I’m not sure this new iPhone SE warrants a full event on its own given that there’s not a single new thing on it. It’s an old body with current (but not new) internals. So with that in mind I’m hoping this means that a March event will bring additional new hardware. Obvious guess goes to a 13 or 14 inch MBP but I’m really hoping that the iMac gets updated because that’s what I’m waiting to buy. The fact that I can spec a 16 inch laptop higher than a desktop is crazy. Surely it’s only a matter of time now with a new iMac with hopefully a new design as well. Thin bezels and no chin please apple.
