I could be wrong, but here is my worry for an actual realistic consumer viewpoint.
Apple needs to not let this die and fail, for a LONG time before it can get anywhere near the "Vision" it showed off in their KeyNote Video of how they imagine such a device being used.
Being into gaming, and wearing a headset for a little while to enjoy an immersive game. Yes sure. That audience is already there and has the potential to grow. It's an inconvenience to wear such a device, but the fun that can be had makes it worth it for some people.
Wearing such a device at your kids party, when friends come over to chat to you, when packing your suitcase, perhaps in the kitchen etc.
None of those things are going to realistically happen with any device anything like this.
If they looked like some slightly chunky sunglasses, then ok, we could see this perhaps become a reality, but we are so many years away from this right now.
Without question there is going to be a lot of excitement at launch and some interesting things will be shown off thanks to developers. Then reality is going to start sinking in, and what than happens after the tech news get's bored as there's not much else to report on it?
It could end up as some sort of corporate device?
If Apple don't target the people who currently buy these products (Gamers who are willing to put up with the issue of wearing something heavy on their face for the experience)
Are they going to keep the produce in production and sale for the next...... 10 years? Until we get to a product general consumers would actually realistically consider wearing?
I could see a launch, some time passing, then it vanishes, only to re-emerge years later.
Honestly I don't want this to happen, as it won't help the industry as a whole.
I can see the headlines now "VR/AR is dead, even Apple could not make it work, and if they can't no-one can"
I do wonder if Meta has kind'a the right approach, which is actually more like the approach Apple normally has.
Build something reasonable at an affordable price point, and then use your "Apple Magic" to make it the best it can be. Then year after year make it better and better, bringing customers with you, until you reach your end goal.
It's going to be interesting to see where we are in 1 to 2 years from now.
