Good God, I'm so sick of diversity discussions. Diversity has become one of the lowest rungs on the leftist politically correct scale of nonsense. Diversity measures nothing and provides nothing. That Apple has both increased its diversity and has been going steadily downhill for a few years makes the situation sound like more white people are needed. It could be that diversity is more important to HR than quality.

Yea, because whites are never discriminated against in non-white countries right? Hahaha

Bigotry and racism is done everywhere. No one here has denied that. You are the one bringing up the deep seated fear that other ethnicities will "retaliate" against whites in this country when they are in power. I was just pointing out that in your statement you were basically admitting to white racism against minorities today.

Only way to make this work would be for blind interviews, with a 3rd party answering the questions (verbally) for the potential worker/manager.

Not seeing, knowing, hearing the Gender, Race, Appearance of the person you are interviewing is the only way for it to be fair.
Will they do this no of course not.

Who wants a fat ugly person with wild hair and facial piercings, perhaps a birth defect also, to greet people as they enter the building at the front desk.
No.
Pretty lady, slim with nice breasts would be more appropriate.

Never going to change

So much truth.

It's no surprise that salesmen's helpers at motor shows tend to be a certain sex, age, physique and wearing a certain mode of dress. :D

I'm still waiting for Tim Cook to walk it like he talks it and open an Apple store in Mondawmin Mall. The rent would certainly be cheap.

Lmfao because ignoring a problem is known to fix it

Exactly. Having people from as many different backgrounds and with as many different perspectives as possible means seeing a problem from more angles and makes finding solutions more likely. It's better for everyone.

Exactly. The irony is that that quote is only seen as noteworthy because the person saying it is perceived as (read: is) a black man. The idea that skin color has no effect on social relations because someone with a darker skin tone said so is hilarious.

And claiming there's a problem when there isn't one doesn't fix anything either.

I don't care that Morgan Freeman is a Black man. Apparently you're willing to use that as an excuse for dismissing the noteworthiness and validity of his quote on this. Why is that?

A good friend of mine shares with me her frustration of the looks of confusion and sometimes amazement she get when meeting face to face after a phone interview. She grew up in NYC but was born in Jamaica. Speaks proper English and doesn't have a stereotypical Jamaican or NYC accent. The interviewer, who obviously requested an in person meeting after being impressed by her qualifications and intelligence always seems surprised she is black.

Stupid.

Bye Apple I will not be buying another product from you again. Have fun with you forced diversity (anti-white)!

Well good riddance to you as well. Just so you know.... You will be hard pressed to find any company today who is not diversifying their workforce.

Oh great. Pandering to the fairness police. Nevermind that in some of these cases the best person did NOT get the job. Its sooooooo damned ironic that they dont want to use race as a factor in hiring....but wait.... its the left were talking about here. Nevermind. o_O

Thats the way of things now. They do it for college admissions, Govt jobs, everything possible. Alls it does is give unqualified people jobs and discriminate against other people. Nicely done.

Forced diversity does not benefit society as a whole and only re-enforces and promotes separation with those people who are predisposed to separation.

And what's your solution then? To do nothing?

You seem to forget this country spent a majority of its history keeping whites in a false bubble of superiority to others in every aspect of life. That gave generational jumpstart to whites in wealth making, educational advancement and political power, property ownership to name a few. I am not being "anti-white" I am pointing out to you that in order to logically create equality in this country you have to understand minorities have had a 200 year retarding of their development to make up for.
That, I think is what you do not comprehend.

So only the white people hired were qualified?

I'll build my own computers and support companies that do not get involved with political movements that undermine people of my ethnicity

Build your own computer and support companies that don't get involved with undermining your ethnicity? ROFLOL!!!

Good luck with that. I think you better start making plans to live under a rock if that's your goal.

Been doing it for years just fine!

No you have not. You have just been blissfully ignorant.

BTW you are using the services of an ISP that has many political ties and does support diversity to post this. Unless you tell me you live on an island, make your own clothes. Supply you own fuel. Grow your own food. And somehow connect to the Internet all by yourself. You are utilizing companies that are invested in diversity and politics.

You don't know me so that would make you "blissfully ignorant"

I reject affirmative action as best I can and I do a pretty good job of it

I don't want to know you. The ignorance coming from you makes me truly hope you don't reproduce.

You reject AA? Well from reading your posts it seems logical you don't want white women to be treated equally. You know since they are the LARGEST portion of the population that has benefited from AA.

I think that the statements made on this topic are naive at best. Sure, lets all argue that it should be merit based exclusively - the best person gets the job/promotion. As I have experienced personally, the world just does not work that way. I remember early on in my career that a friend told me to apply for a company that they worked at. I later heard that just looking at my name on the resume was enough to get rejected. Not even an interview. I have no idea how many times that may have happened over my career, but I suspect I am not alone. There are ways, such as removing names and salary data from applications that would make it more fair. Then the hiring manager has nothing to go on other than education and experience to make a decision who to bring in for interviews. At least that get's people in the door. But there is discrimination in ALL directions in the workforce and to say that it is easily solved is just wrong.

I have no idea how Apple manages its program, so I can't judge it. Of course I think that merit based hires and promotions are one of the most critical aspects (in addition to team player and support of vision). The question is about how we eliminate all the obstacles of getting to this paradigm that frankly does not exist.

Ever notice the people most opposed to "political correctness" are the biggest bigots? It's like they're annoyed they can't properly express their bigotry around other people without receiving complaints.

I'm guessing it was never "forced" when only white males were hired, right? Talk about misdirected outrage. You build your own computers? Better start designing and manufacturing every single component and writing your own firmware and operating system for everything you own.

Yup, that's why I am to hire non-white and women freelancers when I can.

If this is how you really think, then you're part of the problem, not the solution.

The industry I work in is predominantly white male so I'm just trying to do my part, but the problem itself is much much bigger.

How did that happen? You're part of the problem, not the solution.

All we can do is our best.

If you're looking at race and gender as qualifications, then you're not hiring based on "best".
