Funny—I just assumed that these were stretched app icons from the start. Guess I should have said something earlier. It seemed fairly obvious to me, but I have a background in visual communication and design. I didn't think to pop it into PS, however. Nice find guys. Kind of funny how people still can't see it—even in the edited version.

hahaha shutup

I love all of this decoding craziness that comes with these events.

Where's Robert Langdon when you need him?

In the DaVinci Code when Teaming gives Langdon the cryptex Langdon figures out the password is.....apple!....the orb missing from Newtons tomb.

Suddenly the pieces are all falling into place!

wait a minutes, so what you're insinuating is that the new iphone may possibly have a taller screen? why didn't you break this news sooner!?

You would need to take the phone out of your pocket if you wanted to use the thermometer (if it exists lol... speculation of course) as you do with anything else. Also it would have benefits with regards to safety - I have updated the post with some more information:

http://bit.ly/thermometerIn5

per your blog post -- the icon is way too amateur and silly looking to be a built-in iOS app icon. sorry.

Hmm, a smaller lens isn't a good thing. A larger lens can take in more light - allows for better low light photography and sharper pictures when there's an abundance of light

Though admittedly I can't see past the protective layer too well. Maybe the actual lens is still a reasonable size

Not necessarily. The amount of light it catches is mainly dependent on the aperture and sensor size. While it could be the case, a smaller diameter doesn't necessarily mean the aperture is reduced.

For example, my DSLR lens with the smallest diameter is also the one with the larger aperture (Canon 50mm f\1.8). Let's wait until Wednesday before drawing any conclusion.

Spoiler Free

I've been following the discussions, but I can't find any mention of a spoiler free keynote stream for this event!

I'll be in the air a couple of hours (11,5) after the event and it would be wonderful to geek out in the air with the complete keynote!

Who usually takes care of these things?
Does the keynote-checker still work?

Can someone start at thread for this?

Thanks everyone!
Looking forward to see what will be on offer in a couple of days... :)

Well I totally agree with you that there are many devoted fans, and even if the new iPhone looked exactly like iPhone 4 & 4S and only had LTE and a faster processor, they would still love it and think it's the next big thing.

However the rest of us have a more pragmatic approach to the whole launch and a taller phone is probably not enough to excite such people - there are bigger, (quite possibly) faster, thinner, more capable (trying to avoid the word 'better') phones out there.

However we haven't seen the phone yet, so there might be some interesting new features we don't know about.
Waiting to see, but a taller phone with a faster processor and LTE isn't a 'must-have' for me. Will I still buy it? Probably (I have a 4 not 4s), but I'm not salivating over it either.

I think you've assessed it very nicely.

Display size aside, I'm very happy with the performance of my 4S. As such no matter what new surprises Apple may include in the new model, it won't matter to me.

When you have a setup well sorted and working to your liking, there's a lot to be said for just using it & enjoy the reliability.

That's where I'm at.
My MBP's, MBA's, iPads & iPhone are all in fine fettle and I'm enjoying them as they are. :D

This blows my mind. Very clever.

Edit: I've looked at this a few times and still cant believe how brilliant this is.

Also: Being that Game Center is upside down, could another new App we haven't seen yet be upside down too?

It has to be the new Passport App that rolling out with the new software.

The only relevant conclusions that should be drawn from this thread:

- People should go out more often;

- Some people have too much spare time in their hands;

- Everyone and their dog already knows that the iPhone will be "taller", yet people come here and state this as something "new".

BEST SOLUTION: Delete this whole thread - I have never read such utter nonsense on MR pages.

Trouble is it's a bit rubbish compared to something like spotify.
Well that's ridiculously subjective, of course. I actually dumped spotify for iTunes Match.

I buy all the music I enjoy. I like owning and having control of my music. I don't like being held hostage by a monthly fee and if I ever stop paying, I'm left with nothing.

Of course, to each their own, and certainly there is value in Spotify as well. But to call iTunes Match "rubbish" just because you don't personally like it is a bit silly.

Match offers no option for discovering new music. Hopefully Apple is working on that.

I only use the free Spotify. So iTunes on my iPhone, Spotify on my desktop and on a rare occasion the radio function on my iPhone....Pandora as well.

Wow... a lot of negativity starting to appear on the forum

Not going to name any names but if people want to discuss what may/may not be included in the announcements on Wednesday, they can - what is the point coming onto the forum to say things like "this thread is nonsense" or it "should be deleted"?!

I am guessing these people are not fans of Apple stating that a lot of the posts and ideas are "nonsense"... if there's one thing I have learnt about apple, it is appearance and presentation is everything - the idea of "let's just throw up whatever colours look good" may apply to 99% of the industry, but in case you haven't realised when it comes to intelligent and well thought out design, Apple is second to none.

Yes, they have the occasional 'blip' (antenna issue and the leaks for the iPhone 5 - if genuine, are a tad ugly) but for the amount of products they have launched, their design track record is pretty good.

Not only that but on multiple occasions, Apple have managed to carve entirely new sectors and shape industries for products to meet needs that people didn't realise they needed. I bought an iPad about 3 months ago and before was still very much thinking "it would be nice to have but I can't see it as a necessity". Now after a few months of using it, it has dramatically increased my productivity and I can't imagine working without it.

Wow! A larger iPhone, now that would be a surprise!

longer not larger..lol

opposing opinions and information are parts of reality i am tired of people trying to illuminate things selectively from reality ... just learn to accept that some folks will not agree with some things thats what makes life interesting..

IJ am an apple fan hard core but there are many things i hate about apple too and i will voice them just as i sometimes voice the things i love..

back to topic

let's get back to topic. what we all think the images on the banner is. here's my thought.

Maybe the icons are supposed to be viewable from the new Fly Over version of maps??? it would replicate putting our noses on top of our ipad and looking down at the "stretched" version of the picture! Maybe they'll have an updated satellite image of the Yerba Buena center from the flyover view!

This is more ridiculous than the theory of Mountain Lion icon being Steve Jobs. What's next? Because it has the the color orange that Apple will now be orange?

It's not really stretching the icons but more like giving them a motion blur. I don't think it has anything to do with how tall the new iPhone is. It has to do with how fast the apps will be with the 4G LTE and the new processor.

Ho exactly have the competition come "far ahead"? Because their phones are bigger? Because they have LTE?

They've gone from producing also-rans and crap, to building attractive hardware and software that people want to use.

So that's a big leap forward right?

Apple though, they're moving horizontally. They've sort of plateau'd.

We'll see on Wednesday.
