Updated icons and retina display now on:

-SoundHound (officially replacing Shazam on my phone now)
-Articles, an awesome wiki reader client
-Deliveries, package tracking app
-Ambience, ambient sound app w/ downloads
-FlightControl, the graphics make the little planes float, it's sweet

Can't wait for them all to be updated :D

first off. no apps don't charge for updates once you bought them. they might come out with the next version or deluxe version. then you would. but the the app you have no.

i'm kinda surprised that apples itunes remote, didn't even get a retina update. really apple?

then again, its probably just indicating that there is new features that will be coming out shortly that justifies holding on an update. my guess is a new apple tv with new remote features. or a front row update, maybe tying in with the new mac mini update. mofo does have hdmi out. (or their just fazing out mini-dvi for their mini display port.)

anyways, weird to look at apples first downloadable app on the ip4 and have it look like ****.

Lazy Text 1.5 supports sending text messages directly within the app. You can now transfer your text from your computer to your iPhone and send it to others without switching apps!

Ideas for apps

Dropping Call (Skype Edition) is an app that randomly closes calls in Skype to imitate regular calls.

Scratch My Back is an app that has tiny scratches appearing on the screen over time, despite the 'gorilla glass'.

Have any of the apps that have updated to use the retina display charged for the update?

It's not possible to charge for this, except if released as completely new app.

It's not possible to enable something even as in-app purchase, as iOS4 automatically picks the appropriate images for the device.
It's outside developer control. Well, to be precise, technically it is possible, but it take so much manual (coding) work, that it's ludicrous. One would need a lot of time to do it only to be universally despised.
Fear not. :)

Sorry that is what I meant. Instead of just updating the app to the retina display, releasing a new HD version that we have to buy again. I really don't want to have to buy all of my apps over again.

I've got an idea for another:

Incessant Whinger: An app that constantly interrupts whatever else you are doing with unrelated moaning messages.

When are we going to see games that utilize the iPhone 4's graphical capabilities? Real Racing looks awesome, but the i4 could have much higher polygon count and other things like reflections and maybe bump mapping?

EA NCAA Football did this. Different version for iPhone 4 than 3GS. Also costs a dollar more ($7.99 vs $6.99). First one I've heard of though. Wouldn't suprise me if EA does this for all of its games though due to the recent sale on most of their titles.

MLB at bat 2010 now supports the retnia display as well as background audio.

Has anyone developed an app that turns on the LED as a flashlight? So many apps just light up the screen as a "flashlight", but where is the app the just turns on the LED?

This was my most anticipated update. The better graphics are nice, but the multitask is the best part as I will often listen and watch whole games.

I emailed the devs who make "Backdrops 1.5" which is a collection of excellent wallpaper from Interfacelift.com . They said...

"We actually just submitted an iPhone 4 update to Backdrops last night with higher resolution wallpapers and interface graphics. Hopefully Apple will push it to the App Store within the next few days."

If you want to check out the iPhone 4 resolution wallpapers from their website, you can check them out here...

For all you golfers out their like me, Golfshot GPS has been updated for the display and multitasking.

I suspect as more developers see their apps on an iPhone 4, they will be updating the graphics pretty quickly. While they look ok, they're not horrible, they definitely look more "low-rent" compared to the amazing resolution of the ones optimized for iPhone 4.

I can't wait to see Chronometer in Retina-quality graphics. It's my favorite semi-worthless app. It's actually quite useful for figuring out time of sunset, sunrise, moonrise and moonset. And if you like classic and modern watches.

I love chronometer.

Graphing Calculator is now iOS4 compliant w/ multitasking (and fixes a crash bug whenever you try to add x to an equation, which is kinda important)

It makes GREAT use of the Retina Display.

I laugh at my TI-89. It was a 160x100 screen. Without color.

EDIT: Actually, I may be wrong, since I still see pixels. The update description is confusing.

Can this application do limits, derivatives, integrals, or any of the TI-89's advanced features? Or is it like a high-res TI-83?

Hey everyone, STREAMTOME just went to version 3.0 last night, bringing a ton of iOS4 and iPhone4 specific features. It's unbelievable! This App just went from being #3 or 4 on my list of favorites to #1.

Plays audio in the background on iOS 4.
- Play movies or music in a mini player while browsing folders.
- Support for iPhone4 including 720p and 2x resolution icons.
- Better, improved continuous and random play: skip forward and backward through the playlist.
- Remembers the sorted/flattened state of folders.
- Options for remembering/resuming the previous playback point in files, and remembering the play count of files.

just used the new Cyclemeter to monitor the ride to the apple store, ran in the background with the ipod on. Great little app

I thought of this too when I saw how bright the LED is. For now when I want to use it as a flashlight, I just open up the camera app and switch it to video mode and put the LED on that way. It would be nice if someone came out with a flashlight app that controlled the LED too. I'm not sure if there are public APIs available to developers that allow LED control though, perhaps a developer here could chime in on that.

Unfortunately no. :( However it's 50x easier to find intersections/roots on it than using a TI-89.

Kinda disappointed that apple have yet to update their apps to support retina display, the MobileMe iDisk and gallery and the remote apps look pretty low res, also hoping the engadget app gets updated aswell
