Spot on, mate.

10.4.4 was for the iMac

10.4.5 was for the MBP

10.4.6 is for ???

Well, considering the UB Aperture update is postponed to mid April we can expect 10.4.6 at the same time.

There is an unexpected, and perhaps unwelcome, side effect to all this waiting for the updated ibooks. Having learned to live without a Macbook for so long and with there being no immediate prospect of actually getting one I have come to realise that perhaps I can continue to live without one after all

That will probably change when they are actually released but, for the moment, I am in severe danger of losing interest..:(

i agree. no rumors, no news, no nothing
I third that. Years ago we'd have photos of palates of black boxes in the back of an Apple Store somewhere with new shipments of Macs that would be for the sale the next day. We were told on rumor sites which computers they were and had specs for the things.

It seems like Apple has "fixed the leaks" in 2006. Now we don't know what is coming out when. Everyone was shocked by the Intel iMac release when the Intel iBook was expected. Even today no one has a clue when the 13" Macbook is coming out, if it is going to have integrated graphics or ATI graphics, or what. About the only thing we have right now is that it will have a 13.3" widescreen and *may* ship in April, or later.

Well, at least the rumor sites won't be taking any heat for being WRONG, because THERE IS NOTHING TO BE WRONG ABOUT!!!!

Not even a mention of the 30 year anniversary on Apple's web site.

Nothing?!

Surprised and a bit disappointed. I figured that Apple would do something around this time.

Who knows, maybe it will be the year of the 30th Anniversary! :p

For the MacToaster ?

Come on, Apple turned to MP3 players some years ago, pulled up socks for the iPod, then came HiFi elements recently, and it is still rumored to come up with a cell-phone soon...

I say: what about a MacToaster ? With a remote control, please, so I can order to toast my next Apple-shaped slices while sitting at the table. And a wireless connection, so it can connect to my Mac and inform me via iTunes and my speakers that the toast is ready. And HD ready too, for a higher definition of, er, the surface of the toast ? :D

NB: It could even look like the Cube !!! A special 30th birthday item !!!

I hope it is better than the year of HD! HD started off well, but was forgotten after 6 months into the year :( .

Maybe us collectors can look forward to an other TAM, or THAM ? ;)

Even AI and TS are eerily silent.
Artificial Intelligence usually is a bit spooky. ;)

But you're right. I'd at least expect a news piece about this non-news item from all the usual suspects (the diggs etc of this world)!

The silence is deafening.

Edit:
Umm, AI must have heard our chatter.

Before I read that, I was going to mention how on the 20th anniversary or around that time(if I remember right and I read right), Steve Jobs, having returned to Apple, did as his first duty the defenestration of a Mac model of the time that cost 8 grand. He must have not liked the way Apple was heading with that sort of thing, which of course was heading to probable bankruptcy. Just wanted to throw that out there. Jobs is pretty amazing, turning the company around like that...plus the rest of the team.

See above and the same thing here : Apple Insider

8 GB Nanos...lol, surely not. But then again, it is Apple...I guess anything is possible. Full transition to Intel already (except for servers)? My bet is not yet. But, that article could get your hopes back up.

OH JESUS! This crap caused me to buy a sony VAIO yesterday.

Man its freaking fast. Only cost $1279. Dual Core 3ghz with 4mb L2 Cache, TV card, 320gb Raid 0 drives. 1gb of Ram. Upgraded to Radeon X1600 512mb for $127 more. Oh, did I mention its liquid cooled and has no fans so it makes NO noise? Thats right. And it looks cool. Also has dual DVD drives. Ones a DVD ROM and one is a DVD+RW DL. 9 in 1 media card reader. 9 usb ports, 2 firewire. Remote control. Wireless Mouse and keyboard.

Now. WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO SELL A CONFIG LIKE THIS WITH A PRICE LIKE THIS?

I am starting not to give a crap about OSX. I mean its better than XP but I am starting to lose interest in spending $2500 more for a machine just because it has OSX on it, especially when the machines hardware are the same now.

It's quiet, eerily quiet...

Here is my take. Apple is about quality. That being said, they have taken a couple of black eyes lately. The late shipping MBP, and the savaging they took over the last event come to mind.

Maybe it's better to wait 2 weeks, burn some old inventory, and stock up on some new product before announcing anything.

Hope it gives you many, many hours of joy maintaining your new purchase...

BTW: Your sig, which already contains enough computers to run a small country, is way over limit... :)

3 GHz... are you sure about that? Can you post a link to the product page? Didn't find it on Sony's pages... (I don't like those cryptic names that read like license plates)

# Ghz dual core?

The highest core duo on the Intel web site is 2.16 ghz. Sony 3 ghz VAIO computers use a regular P4.
