Anyone here use their iPhone 6+ in the gym? I go about 5 days a week and I'm concerned it might just be to big to tote around while working out.

I've thought about bluetooth headphones and running a playlist but its nice to be able to check social media/news/message in between sets.

A very serious fitness buff, I'm in the gym every single day without fail.

My iPhone resides safely in my locker while I'm working out. I make gym time my time.

No phone required.

I took my 6+ to the gym today. It's tough enough that I"m considering picking up a cheap iPod touch off CL because I can't run on the treadmill with it. I could put it into the cubbys given, but I keep snagging the wire with my hands.

It's either a pair of BT headphones, pair of longer (Sweatproof) headphones, or iPod Touch.

Can someone please do burpees and bicycle ab crunches and let me know if the 6+ is restrictive or falls out of their shorts? This would be a non starter for me as I train 2x a day and this is an integral part of my regimen.

Different opinions here, but what exactly is making your workout any less effective if you take 30s-1m of rest and during that time unlock your phone to see a message from a buddy or set a song to get you pumped for a new 1 rep max?

Also anyone here aware?

Personally I don't like distractions like that.
And you never know if people start calling or texting me while there and then I lose focus. Whatever it is can wait for an hour or 2 later.

why do you need a phone at the gym again?

to listen to music. It helps me focus.

I bought a 6 but you 6+ who lift, try the Platinum cases at Best Buy. It's a case and a holster. When lifting I put the phone (with case around it) into the holster (it clicks in, securely) and clip it to either the waistband of my ah-dee-das gym shorts or I clip it to the inside of one of the pockets. This is exactly the same as my 5. Works with my 6 and will work with the 6+. The cool thing about the product is if you don't want to use the holster, phone is still in a case. Only use the holster when need be. I've just got into the habit of using the holster at work on the waistband, same for the gym. Everywhere else I'm carrying a gun with me so I use the holster in one of my pockets by clipping it to the pocket. Phone is always secure.

I got the Griffin armband, cheap, very nice, light yet stable.

I don't think anyone would be able to do burpees and bicycles with anything in their pockets...not even a small rock...

Girl at the gym had something similar for her 6+. We were right beside each other on different benches and she kept knocking the phone on equipment/exercises, so she rips it off her arm and she is looking around at where to put it and she finally shoves it down the back of her skin tight workout pants, half of it's above the waist band and the other half is down her crack....would have been a great commercial.

Wow lots of anti-phones-in-the-gym responses....maybe it's the roids making them so furious...

"There is know place for the phone in the gym...you must focus".....

OP isn't saying he likes to host conference calls at the gym....geez

Here is a tip....turn on the "do not disturb" setting and listen to your playlist. It is really not too distracting...every few minutes the song changes, call me crazy, but I can deal with that "distraction".

It wasn't too long ago people hauled "portable CD players" with them at the gym.

Here are the "distractions" at the gym:

1). People grunting...
2). People that think "exhaling" means to empty your lungs
3). Wearing your sweatshirt
4). Carrying around your 1-gallon water jug
5). Wearing your hood on your sweatshirt
6). Wearing a beanie
7). People who feel the need to announce what weight they just lifted (normally with terrible form)
8). LOUDLY celebrating your lift
9). Screaming at your lifting partner, "Come on, one more, ONE MORE!"
10). Not moving from your machine/rack/bench between sets
11). Talking on your phone

What is not distracting:

Listening to some tunes and ignoring (ie avoiding outside distractions) others.

I could care less about anybody's "gym knowledge" and how religiously you go to the gym....that doesn't carry a lot of weight.

In fact, sounds like some of you may be over-training and would get better results by not going 2x a day at an hour each time.

Ramble over.

OP....let me know your thoughts, that too is my only concern with the plus.

I will probably just end up getting a nano...

Yeah I'm with you. To be honest though I really don't mind people doing w/e they want in the gym as long as it doesn't effect me.

These guys are saying to stay focused.....I guess for them it works to just stare at themselves in the mirror or pace around the weights. I could say something like "DONT DRINK FROM YOUR WATER JUG!!! STAY FOCUSED!" ;)

I took my 6+ to the gym today for the first time. I rock blue booth headphones though so I just left it in my gym bag and took it out in-between sets!

Its a little different than I'm used too but so is everything else about the phone. (Coming from a 5s)

Speaking of which, I got a new PR on bench press this week... 355 lbs and currently weigh 187 :D

^ great point cdub...I can't believe I left out the "obsessed mirror watchers."

Wondering about runs with this thing. May just have to forego music and leave it at home, unless someone else has worked out a practical solution.

Great lift! Especially at 187!!

IPod shuffle is what I use, clips to anything I am wearing, battery last 2+ weeks and I because its so tiny/light it doesn't hinder movement. Plus the last thing I want to be bothered with while working out is email/text/calls, workouts are my stress release.

Runs might be a little annoying. I might use my old phone for that. It will still have some tunes, and If I need to I can buy a $6 sim adapter off amazon and just swap sims and leave the 6+ at home.

Oh God, the Miscers have invaded!

Um...I'm going to start up the gym soon and was wondering this. I usually carry my iPod shuffle. But now I'm wondering if I should get some bluetooth workout headphones. Hm...

You can always get an armband, they are really annoying at first but you'll get used to wearing one.

I think runs will be a no-go.

(That's why I don't run...I knew there was a reason ;)

I would imagine the 6+ on an armband would be a hindrance....?

Maybe not if you have 40" arms though;)
