Upon release I will look at the specs and then decide.

If they offer the following features I will for sure get one:
512GB SSD affordable!!!
Quad CPU

Lets see and wait.

This will be my first Mac so definitely. Still got a while to wait. I start my job in the summer and then have to wait to get paid. :(

I have a newbie question and it really does not warrant its own thread and truthfully, I would be embarrassed to draw attention to the answer that I think I already know.

YES, I will be purchasing the new MBP. I recently purchased photoshop. If they drop the optical drive in the refresh, am I able to use my external hardrive to load ps? **Scared to hit submit reply**

Yes. The only way I won't buy one is if they do something stupid like yank the dedicated GPU from the 15" version, or neglect to upgrade the 320/330m GPU to something at least marginally better.

Yeah I'm almost in the same boat. For me it's if they remove the hi-res antiglare option on the 15" it'll be a deal breaker.

I sort of made myself a promise that I'd wait until April/May when my current laptop hits the 5 year mark before I would upgrade. However I've been eying the refurbished ones on the apple store when they are in stock. I have to keep reminding myself I don't need it yet and new ones aren't too far out.

Do you mean install it using an external CD/DVD drive? If so, then yes, it will install just fine.
Also, I'm pretty sure if you have it (Photoshop app) on an external hard drive, then it can launch it off that as well.

Yep.

Whatever it has, it's going to be an improvement on my mid-2007 15".

Quad core, better GPU (AMD 66xx or better) and SSD/HDD dual storage.

If Apple does this, I'll likely buy a 17" immediately. If not, I'll probably be really disappointed, and buy one anyway.

I do not think I will be needing the refreshed version as Apple just sent me a new i7 2.8 maxed out as they were unable to fix my MBP before the original warranty ended.

If I need more cores I can connect to the Super Computer at school :p

Yes, and it will be my first Mac. My laptop died last week, but I still decided to hold out for the new MBP's. Currently using a Rent-A-Center laptop :/

I am getting some type of MB(A/P) this year...

It all depends on the numerous things

1)price -- as long as they are not like over $2000
2)as long as there is enough difference in 2011 vs 2010
a)SB is a must
b)longer battery life
c)option --> get rid of the SD
c)better screen(it goes without saying high res is a must)
although, if SB is so awesome(runs cooler and prolongs battery life.. it's all good)

If I am not satisified w/ above in 2011 new mbp, I am getting 2010 mbp 15 inch high res basic model

UNLESS of course there is a confirmation for MBA in june w/ even kick ass specs(same format w/ backlit keyboard and SB and 10 hour batter.. then i might change my mind)..

Having said all this, I am really looking forward for new 2011 MBP..

come on down~!

I'm upgrading from a 2003 17" 1GHz PowerBook G4, so no matter what they do I'll be taking the leap. For me the question is just between an i5 or i7 in a 15". I would be really happy if we get four cores, but I doubt it's going to happen since the SKUs from Intel don't offer them at clock rates faster than even the current two core systems (or even the new i5s for that matter). I wouldn't want to be the marketing guy who would have to come up with a way to downplay that. I can already hear Joe Consumer asking "If this one is slower then why does it have more 'i's?"

Beyond all that I'm hoping we see 1TB hard drives and 512GB SSD at more reasonable prices. An option for 4GB of RAM on a single DIMM would be nice too.

Most likely yes, unless there is some drastic price increase. It will be my first Mac computer. Likely going with the 15" MBP.

I'm very satisfied with my MacBook Pro and don't plan on upgrading for a few years, however that being said my significant other is in the market for a 13-inch notebook (either a MacBook or MacBook Pro) so I'm interested in seeing what's coming down the pipe.

No matter what is in the thing I will be getting it since my late 2007 15" is struggling on its last legs. The only difference will be how happy I am. I'll either be really happy or SUPER happy depending on the spec bumps and potential design changes.

This is one of the things that puzzles me on these forums. Everybody talks about reliability of Mac hardware/software all the time, yet people always mention their 2-3 year old Macs "struggling on their last legs". I am waiting for the macbook pro refresh to do the PC to Mac switch but will my Macbook Pro will be a useless piece of junk in couple of years time? I've been using my Dell Inspiron 6000 for the past 6 years and although it is not the fastest piece of laptop, it is still doing ok and definitely not struggling on its last legs. I'm hoping this to be the case with my Mac as well and use it for at least 5 years...

Depends on what's in it, but better than 50% chance that I'll get a 15" glossy :D

evren: Lots of people are finicky about their Macs. Your MBP will be good to go for many years to come.

I think the word 'struggling' is used relatively. You'll find that most Macs last several years, hold up their resale value and work far beyond most other brands. The exception is the low lifespan Mac, and the other exception is the long lifespan PC.

+1 on everything you just said.

(written on my 2005 12" Thinkpad, which although not fast is still perfectly reliable and usable.)

Me too. You also read that you better buy Applecare!

I got a 6 year old dell that still runs like a champ. when people say macs last longer it's a lie. And this is coming from a macbook fan.

Yeah I'm almost in the same boat. For me it's if they remove the hi-res antiglare option on the 15" it'll be a deal breaker.

Ditto. Deal breakers for me are lack of at least a 1680x1050 antiglare, no Sandy Bridge, and no dedicated GPU improvement.

If by some chance there is a redesign or a change to the optical drive setup and/or hard drives, I may wait a week or so until someone has taken one apart to examine what we can do with it.

My desire would be to get a 15" hi-res anti-glare, quad i7, with 8gb RAM, 128 or 256gb SSD and a 500gb-1TB HDD for somewhere in the $2800 range.... granted I'd probably go aftermarket for the drives and memory.

Negative

I recently upgraded from a 2.4ghz Aluminum MacBook to the MacBook Pro that I currently have. I use it mainly for audio production, but also for various other tasks, such as web browsing, listening to music, and a bit of Dj'ing. I have yet to, besides the odd video editing I do, come anywhere close to the limit of this computer. Even when running my audio production programs, Logic, Pro tools, Etc, I have never even come close to 50% CPU load according to iStat. I upgraded to 8gb's of ram, and will eventually get an ssd. I would have opted for the i7, but I found it to run a little to hot sometimes. With that being said, I wouldn't have even noticed the speed difference. Even as minimal as it already is.

So in short, no, I wont be upgrading. Not for at least 2-3 years.
