If my MacBook dies I'll get the new MBP.

If not, I'll have to wait and see what specs are offered to see if I consider it worth the upgrade. If they remove the ODD that could be a deal breaker for me.

Definetely

I'll order the best 17" I can afford the day they get launched. :)

Can't be soon enough!

No upgrade this round. I love my 3 month old 2010 MBP (see signature). I also plan to update my drive to a 750GB 7200RPM drive - do I don't need an expensive SSD with limited space.

If the next refresh, 2012, has Ivy Bridge with 16Gb ram ability that might be an inducement since I do use all of my 8Gb of RAM with Photoshop...

I just hope that they leave Macs at 16:10 and don't go to that horrible 16:9 ratio and leave the pixel count alone on the standard 15" model. 16:9 cost less to make which is the major reason why that design has taken off but I scroll up/down and already keep my dock on the side, not the bottom to maximize my useable space. I am one of those people that does use my DVD drive so I want it build in.

I would love to see an IPS screen in the future instead of the TN panel as that makes it impossible to do serious photo editing work - but I have a high end external NEC monitor for that

Yes

I will be upgrading a late 2006 mbp 15", going with the 17" mbp on refresh date. I will of course upgrade ram and hd (prefer ssd) on the bto, if upgrade prices come down. If not, I will upgrade them myself.

Already picked out the new laptop messenger bag, sleeve, and hard case I plan on buying, as well as keyboard protector (just to be extra safe). (Assuming there will be very little changed -physically- on the mbp 17")

Looking forward to it.

well maybe

Yes - I would like, this time, to get a MBP.

I'm sure I said 'yeah' last time, but in the end I couldn't really see the positives over my current laptop.

The reality of it is - one year on - I'm STILL using my 'ubuntu' customised laptop, updated of course. The laptop is approx 3.5 years old and has had a disk upgrade (500GB 7200 speed) more memory (3 GB max'd). But it struggles with VMs loaded every now and then.

My home desktop is still my iMac 27 i7, which eats VMs. But I wish could customize the environment textures etc a bit more like I can with gnome compiz on ubuntu.

Would LOVE to pick up a new 17 inch MBP. I do quite a bit of video editing on my current (see sig) machine. I can deal with the small screen - I have an external monitor, BUT I would love/need the additional CPU and GPU power as I use color and motion extensively.

If not, I'll upgrade my current machine to 8gb of RAM and possibly a SSD.

Yes I will be upgrading to the 13" unless they do something stupid like move to flash memory only. If they lower the 15" by a couple hundred then I'd get that.

Possibly, I'm waiting until Lion is released before I buy. I'm also waiting to see if Intel will provide any more information on Ivy Bridge's release date at Computex 2011 in June.

Definitely. I sold my 2008 1st gen Macbook Air a month ago since it kept failing on me. Hopefully the new Macbook Pro doesn't have the defected sandy bridge processor tho.

It's not the processor that was defective. Why do people still think this?

Yep, I'm finally retiring my 2006 15" 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro. This thing has been my baby for so long, but it's time to move on. The only caveat is if they get rid of the ODD, then I'll be going for a refurb of this generation.

Had my old HP laptop finally die on me last month. Anxiously waiting on a 13" if the specs are upgraded to new sandy bridge with an option of a higher res screen. If not I will be getting the 15". Also hoping the prices to upgrade to an ssd our better if not I will just upgrade it myself....with the help of this forum ;)

This is one of the things that puzzles me on these forums. Everybody talks about reliability of Mac hardware/software all the time, yet people always mention their 2-3 year old Macs "struggling on their last legs". I am waiting for the macbook pro refresh to do the PC to Mac switch but will my Macbook Pro will be a useless piece of junk in couple of years time? I've been using my Dell Inspiron 6000 for the past 6 years and although it is not the fastest piece of laptop, it is still doing ok and definitely not struggling on its last legs. I'm hoping this to be the case with my Mac as well and use it for at least 5 years...

You're just seeing responses from people who have to have the latest and greatest. I have a 2006 iMac, a 2003 PowerBook, and a 2000 titanium PowerBook. All three are still going strong, if not under powered by today's standards, and all three still see daily use. The only issues I've ever had are hard drive failures, which aren't unexpected given how old these systems are.

Yes. my '07 MB is dead. Keyboard completely gone so reverting to using an iphone keyboard app to type :(

LOL, so did I. I'm holding off on pulling the triger on the bag incase the demensions change on the 17".

If they do then its back to the drawing board but its a fun search to do.

This is the bag I picked out
