Mid-2014 15" MBP 2.2Ghz QC no GPU.

For example when I use full screen apps and swipe between screens I notice a little laggage.

So it's not actually slower, but more "stuttery", prone to frame drops. We saw that coming since the iGPU in the new one is less powerful than the Iris Pro from the old... Is it that bad? What resolution scale are you using? You could try going one step down to 1440x900 which is the default setting for the old model (they adopted 1600x1050 on the new one and that can make UI transitions choppier).

Directly. I find any large backups take forever but anything less than 5gb is very quick. My TC is older though - 2009. Do you think that has anything to do with it or should it still be faster?

I originally got the 13" non-touchbar and liked it but didn't like it enough over the 12" MacBook to keep it (really love the 12" form factor). I got the MBP 13" touchbar 3.3GHz i7, 16 GB ram, 512GB SSD and like it much better. The jump in performance, increased storage, Touch ID, and 4 TB3 ports are enough for me to move to the bigger form factor.

Sounds like a total nightmare, anyone reading this who has ordered a new 15" MacBook Pro should cancel it straight away.....

So I get mine quicker, HAHAHA
Just go to the store and pick it up. Depending on your area plenty may be available. That is unless you got a custom config.

Coming from my 2011 15" I'm extremely happy. Some of my takeways:

1. Screen is gorgeous. Same screen real estate with the default scaling but the colors really and out and the brightness blows my old model out of the water.
2. Even though my old one has a Samsung 840 Pro, Blackmagic only would report around 100+ MBps. Having the PCIe drive is a major difference even for basic tasks.
3. The 2011 used to be an epitome of being thin and light (next to the MBA), but it's such a joy to have something so much thinner and lighter to take around now.
4. Keyboard has been fine for me. I can't tell if I'm typing any faster, but I definitely haven't been slowed down.
5. Battery life has been fine. I charged it at night, took it to work (but didn't use it for any long periods of time), then used it all night and still had 1-2 hours to spare.

I still have to get accustomed to using the Touch Bar more, but in due time I'm sure I will. Haven't needed to use any of the ports I usually need (besides USB A once but I have an adapter, and the drive is USB C so I'll get a short C-to-C cable). iPhone 7 lasts all day and then some, and I don't plan on syncing to my new MBP when my old one has the capacity for my iTunes library so I don't really have any need for a C-to-Lightning cable.

I wish I could turn up the brightness of the touch bar.

Because I look at it from an angle most of the time and it doesn't have the same brightness when you look at it from narrow angles. And as a user mentioned before the fingers block the view of it too.

I just picked up the 13 inch TouchBar MacBook Pro from the Apple Store on Thursday. It's gorgeous. I love the keyboard and the TouchBar is great. It's of course not as bright or sharp a the advertisements show, but it is very convenient, and I love the TouchID. The screen is also fantastic. Super bright and high resolution. Some website graphics, like Facebook, actually look terrible on my MBP because the resolution is so fine. I've been using a 12 inch MacBook for a year and an 11 inch MacBook Air before that, so I'm not used to these amazing displays. Like others, I agree that I expected the battery life to be better, but I do like my brightness up, and it sees like Safari may be a resource hog. Anyway, I went with a stock configuration because that was all they had locally. I probably would have gotten a Space Gray if I didn't have to wait, but waiting until 12/30 wasn't worth a fractionally slicker color option.

I'm testing now no Touch version waiting for Touchbar one.

From my point of view noTouch MacBook is a new MacBook Air. Instead of redesign apple will just kill original one (MB Air).

It is a good news because everybody was waiting for retina MacBook Air - for many screen quality was a deal breaker and they were using MacBook Pro - which is an obvious overkill for 80% of users. For 19% of users, new Pro version with Touchbar will be a worthy machine. For 1% of real power users (I'm not talking about specs 'collectors' but people doing actual stuff with laptops) it may be not enough.

In my opinion it is definitely not a pro machine - they should remove PRO from name - it is highly misleading and causing frustration. On the other hand it is justifying high price for 'MB Air class' laptop. But that's how business works...

I disagree about the not pro monikor.

Look in the real world, even in my large data company, specialising in database development - we have 15w CPU laptops provided to developers which are docked onto monitors.

The non-touch bar is enough for the majority of professionals in the world. Should it struggle, there is a 95% chance that so would the 13" touch bar model, and a 50% that even the 15" wouldn't be up to the job.

I totally agree!

While I have been very pleased with the 13" base non touch thus far, I realized that I missed having ports on both sides of the Mac.That feature, along with the Touch ID is what prompted me to reserve a 13" touch bar at the local store just now. I don't see myself using the touch bar much, if it at all. That could change.

I would have liked the Touch ID, but the lacklustre touch bar and the much worse battery life has left me content with the non-touch model.

I'll instead trade in my base in 1-2 years for an updated version.

Having the ports on both sides is one of the things making me consider the TB version as well..

It seems like a huge advantage, but then - I can't think of a time when having just the two ports was an issue.

And I don't know if I want to give up the battery. I mean, I've been using the non-TB for about 3 hours and I'm at 80% battery.

And thats using MuseScore and bluetooth headphones for an hour.

In regards to just the two ports version, I found that having the Santechi Hub plugged into one of the ports with various peripherals attached (including external drive at times) was a bit awkward. I also didn't want to run the risk of making the port loose or otherwise cause it problems from the weight and movement from desk to recliner. Having two ports on both sides makes my transition from desk to recliner (while plugged in) easier.

In regards to battery life, I keep my Macs plugged in most of the time. I have read posts where some people were getting 6 or less hours per charge. I have also seen posts where people are getting 8+ hours. Seeing how usage per person can vary greatly, along with individual settings preferences, I am not going to jump on "The Verge battery" type bandwagon and blindly dismiss the touch bar without testing it. With the extended holiday return policy now in affect, that will give me a good amount of time to test the extra ports and speakers, along with testing battery life a few times etc.

The Touch ID ability is very appealing to me as well, as I am a 1Password user. Even though I am currently using the MacID app (which works very well) to automate logins via fingerprint (with iPhone 6) it will be nice to be able to use 1Password with the Touch ID and make better use of its new abilities with the new system.

On November 9th I bought the no touch bar 13" MacBook Pro. Coming from an early 2011 13" MacBook Pro this machine was just amazing. I really love this computer, so much lighter, faster and sounds better than my old MacBook. Yesterday (November 19) I took it back to Apple and exchanged it for the 13" Model with the toucher and 512GB drive. I loved the first one so much I decide to upgrade it to the toucher model. I couldn't be happier. The toucher so far is pretty awesome. A lot better and more useful than I anticipated. I see great potential for the touchbar, now it's up to the developers to deliver on that. Why did I decide to upgrade so quickly. Well I had the money to fro it, it was in stock and I only had a few days left to exchange it since I bought the original one the day before the holiday policy took affect. Spending the additional $500 now seemed cheaper to me than buying a new one in a year or two. I think I will have this one as long as I had my 2011 MacBook Pro. But again time will tell and for now I couldn't be happier.

I'll do something even better and make a video recording of it.
[doublepost=1479684869][/doublepost]Wait a minute did is the Intel Iris Pro from the Mid-2014 MBP more powerful than Intel Iris Graphics 550??

I got the 13" i7, 16GB, 512SSD Space Gray version yesterday but found that it was just more power than I need or will ever need for what I do, and I'm not a fan of the easily visible finger prints on the Space Gray and finally, it ran too hot for me coming from a 12" MacBook. Oh and also, the battery time was bad--4.5 hours. This afternoon I restored it back to factory and returned it... but then bought the base (and much cheaper) TB model (i5 8Gb 256SSD) in silver and I'm restoring my Time Machine (again) as I type this on my iPad. On a positive note, it is noticeably cooler. So I'm thinking happy thoughts.

I got the same model (13" i7) in silver and my experience has been different. In normal usage the fans never even come on. To test the fans I exported a 100 RAW files to JPEG from Lightroom. I used Monity to monitor fans and temperature. The highest fan usage was 3600rpm and the highest CPU core temperature was 199F. The bottom got warm but not hot. I'm coming from a 2016 12" MacBook so I'm used to no fans and little heat. It's been a while since I have an i7 MacBook Pro but it seems much cooler and quieter than I remember it running from previous models.

I have non touchbar 13" and I am happy besides the battery life. All these guys getting 10hrs plus amazes me, my experience is not like that at all. I get more like 7 to 8 hours performing basic tasks, I am not a power user.
Yeah, i'm surprised at the people getting 10+ hours compared to what i've seen. Are all the MacBooks (the people getting 10+ hours) have the same type of battery by the same manufacturer?

I thought I'd mention, that this is the first computer I've ever owned that I actually had to reduce the brightness, and I'm a brightness junkie, yet at 500 nits it will burn your eyeballs out :D You can tell on some pages that it's 500 nits. This is worth mentioning as in some lighting conditions, it's going to be painful. Of course more is better. You just have to be careful. ( I should probably try the auto feature, just never liked it before)

It's not washed out either.
I'll admit - even though I don't have the battery to use it, the brightness maxed out is quite bright and makes viewing pictures pretty awesome.

I just got the 13" today with touch-bar. Coming from a 13" 2015 Retina. Screen on the 2016 is definitely better! When I was transferring my data and had both laptops next to each other, the difference in the screen quality was VERY noticeable.

Keyboard is fine and glad Apple chose to keep it backlit. Very easy to type on. No errors at all.

Touch-bar is definitely and nice feature. Kind of like having a bit of the iPhone available. While I type this, the touch-bar is showing suggested words and spellings just like on the phone. Very cool for sure.

Price is a bit high but my military discount helped. They didn't ask for my ID which was a bit odd.

Glad they had them in stock at the store today. Very easy purchase. Now I need to start buying a few USB-C adapters. No biggy. I think I only actually need a few of them.
