The only negative is that Steve isn't around to see how well the phone is selling. It's the last Apple product he was involved with 100%.

Yeah. They just don't listen, they just have their wishlist and their pet expectations, including expectations of being disappointed. Meanwhile those of us who actually listened to the specs and have older phones heard stuff like the extra lens in the cam past what the iPhone 4 got, and the new A5 chip and Siri, and we're like "WOW. YEAH. SIGN.ME.UP!!"
The media are weird any more. So few come with open ears. They do interviews with checklists of what to ask, most don't follow up answers with related further questions, just march on to the next item on their list. They think that way, they see that way, and they take their mindset back out to us, their audience. And we download the keynote later and we wonder if these guys slept through it or something.
I swear some media dude could interview Tim Cook right now and ask him if he plans to bring out any more laptops, and if Cook said "Yeah so we're pretty much done with those," the media dude wouldn't even blink, he'd be like "check, asked about laptops," and then move right on to ask "So with the iPhone 4S already out now, what do you see as the main feature for the iPhone 5?" Meanwhile Cook would be standing there grinning and winking at us, I could hope. I would love to see that
If these numbers were from July/June with a normal iPhone release cycle I would be impressed but since is 4 months deleyed from a normal cycle you have 4 extra months of pent up demand. You have 4 months of people who's contracts have ended/up for renewal. So color me not impressed by these number.
Both those factors are a HUGE shot in the arm for sales. Even with a less than impressive phone any one who thought this was not going to be record breaking sells is an idiot because 4 months of pent up demand is going to cause some massive sells.

Go read the threads again, plenty of people (who apparently didn't learn anything from the 3GS) saying it was going to bomb and Apple was doomed.
Not at all, they're not representative of Apple's market. Maybe you meant minority.

It is pointless because deliveries are now backed up well past the launch date. Some are expecting a week after that on the 21st for deliveries.
my verizon 16gb 4s was moved from 10/14 to 10/21. Went to my local verizon store and they showed me an email saying to let customers know that the 16gb 4s is backordered and that the 32 and 64gb versions were readily available. So i cancelled my original order and bought the 32gb 4s, and it will be in my hands on 10/14. Also when preordering via verizon, they dont charge you until it ships.

Same here. I'm hoping they made a blanket change to everyone's (or everyone ordering the same config) to read that.
I know people will disagree but this is why a redesign was not needed.. The only thing I could think of that would make this phone better is 1. Making the screen extent a little more. 2. 4G connectivity ... IMO the A5 is a rock solid chip and the A6 will be as well..

family plan with ATT costs < single plan on Verizon. Only reason. Well, the faster download speeds will be nice. I think ATT's getting better... Last year I dropped at least 1 in 3 calls. Since I've gotten back to school I can't think of a call dropping

Yeah it's very frustrating. I called ATT and the representative told me that they had enough to support the pre-orders but this Backorder status is contradicting that. And it's hard to believe that at 4:00 AM they would already run out but then again it is the glorious IPhone *crosses fingers for 10/14*

Except that the iPhone 4 sold well during the quarter ended in June (despite the expectation that a new iPhone was coming soon). We'll find out the week after next how well Apple did during the recent quarter. I expect that the iPhone 4 still sold decently.
