So if I understand this offer correctly. After putting $50 down on an iPhone 7 +128 gig my monthly payment is approximately $27. What does that mean after the promotion and getting $27.09 Credit per month my phone is free?? If so that is a tremendous offer IMHO. Thanks to everyone helping out in this thread.

It's not going to be completely free because of the difference in price between the 32gb 7 and 128gb 7+. You will get a $21.66 credit on your bill for 30 months. The $27 dollar credit is for ATT Next Year which is 24 months. So as it sits now, you're going to have to pay roughly $5 a month. You might want to switch to the 24 month plan just to get it paid off and thus being able to upgrade earlier.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I got mixed up on my credits I picked the two-year plan and gave myself the one your credit LOL

did you put a down payment also?

I did not put down a down payment. I just wanted to confirm that this deal was legit and that I did the pre order correctly. I had called AT&T earlier in the day and was told they were not going to do anything for existing customers. I was seriously considering buying an unlocked phone for full price and selling my wife's two year old iPhone 6 on EBay.

IOW, this is ATT's way of putting you back on a 24 month contract.
I am ok with that. My service has been great and I love having unlimited data.

Very true. Always follow the money.

In this case, it seems that in exchange for the program you're increasing your barriers to exit AT&T and go elsewhere. Not that it'd be difficult, but it'd take a bit more thought and planning than otherwise. AT&T is "buying" a reduction in churn and "paying" customers to stay with them for the length of the 24 month period.

Basically you have to decide if you want to be tied to ATT for two years.
If so, then this is not a bad deal. Not a bad deal at all.

This only really locks in a person who doesn't have enough money to pay for the phone outright. Since you have to pay for the entire phone either upfront or over 24/30 months, it's better to have them make one payment for you than not. The only thing is you would lose the money from selling the old phone. If you switch carriers after 1 year you would be almost breaking even, assuming you have a 6,6+, not 6s/6s+.

Just a thought, the resale value of IP6 may have gone up because of this deal. I am now thinking of selling my IP6 64GB and buy the IP7+, then switch to the $40 ATT prepaid plan. It may be a better deal than another 2 year NEXT plan.

Thanks for the information! Can you also confirm that if we sign up for Next Every Year plan and decide to do upgrade next year, the remaining credit from month 13-24 will be lost? That's a big factor for me as it would be like trading in my iPhone this year for nothing. Thanks.

If you buy unlocked iPhone 8(or 7s) next year, you can still get the 13-24 credit, which I am going to do now.

Someone on slickdeals hypothesized that the carriers are offering these deals because Apple wants to get as many iPhone 6,6+'s off the street as possible because of the touch disease problem. It kind of makes sense, but I'm not sure if it makes cents.

ATT as well as other carriers in the past have had deals very similar to this without any touch disease ulterior motives. LOL!

True, we have 4 lines and we aren't going anywhere, so at the cost of $15 x 24 for one line and $9 x 24 for the difference in credit that I have to pay for the 7+ 128gb. My total would be $576 for two years.

Do you think it's possible next year to get the iPhone 8 on a Next 24 plan? I mean technically with this promo the 7 is yours out right and I'm assuming AT&T will continue to credit your bill. If this is the case, the 7 is yours to keep and the 8 will be half paid for in 2018.

Are you planning to trade in your 7 in 12 months? If so, you never want to put down money on a lease of anything, phones included. For example, let's say you're getting an $869 phone. If you put down $400, you then have to make 12 payments of (869-400)/24=19.54 and get 12 credits of 27.08 for a net credit each month of 7.54. After 12 months you're in the positive $90.52 from payments but you put out the $400 so when you turn it in you've given att $310. With no down payment, after 12 months you've only given att $110. So you've basically thrown away half your down payment. If you stick with the payments for the full 24 months and keep the phone to resell yourself, it all evens out and the down payment is okay.
I wasn't planning on turning in my phone at the 12 months. I was planning on paying it off and selling it for 500$ then doing the same thing next year

Chatting right now with AT&T and the rep is saying it ends on the 16th. Totally confused now. That's 3 different dates I've seen.

**Edit: Spoke with another rep and they are saying it ends the 30th but could possibly be extended. Haha poor AT&T, they have no idea what they are doing.

As we're all taking advantage of this deal, it still kinda sucks, just not as bad as it could have been I guess.

Old way for me:
2 year contract
$400 for the phone, I usually get the middle or top phone
$135 a month bill service (2 lines)
End of 24 months phone is mine.

New way for me:
2 year contract, just disguised and renamed
$200 for the phone, middle of the road 7+
Loss of a older phone I could hand down
$145 a month bill service. (2 lines) (they raised unlimited data rates a few months ago)
End of the 24 months the phone is mine, but I lost my older phone.

In conclusion it stinks losing the older phone which I usually hand down. I guess I could take that initial $200 savings after the 2 years are up and re buy the older phone off of ebay, which at this point is 4 years old for $200. So it's all a wash.

If you pay off your Next loan at the 12 month mark, you will lose the $325 worth of monthly credits for the back 12 months. If the iPhone 6 that you are trading in to att is currently worth less than $325 then you are breaking even. If it's worth more than that, you are losing money on this deal.

This was the deal to make me jump back to Att.

T-Mobile has been terrible in my area and their preorder process and jump on demand confusion and attempt to eliminate so I am happy to be back and get this deal on top of my employer 25%.

My wife only updates her phone every 2-3 years so this gets her off the 6 she has now and into the 7 and I get the 7+ and next 12 to upgrade an iPhone every year.

Works for me!!

Agreed. This deal is basically a "friendly" contract as the $650 subsidy is spread out over 12 or 24 months. AT&T's old 2-year contract was also a $650 subsidy but you got it all upfront and owned the phone outright instead of making payments.

Strictly speaking you still own the phone outright under Next, which is why you have to pay sales tax. The biggest difference between this and the old subsidies is that once the phone is paid off you don't keep paying the subsidy.

Anyone know if there is a limit to the number of free* iPhone 7 we can get through this promo? I have 7 lines on my account and 3 of them are iPhone 6 that are eligible for this offer as they are all paid off.

But with the subsidy, you had to pay $299 or what ever was the cost up front a higher plan and line fee and you still did not own the phone until the 2yr contract was up right? Or pay an ETF to leave with it.

No, you still owned the phone as of day one. Yes it was carrier locked, but you still owned it.

Lots of people would buy a new phone subsidized and resell it at a net profit during a launch, then keep using their old phone on the line.
