Anyone know if there is a limit to the number of free* iPhone 7 we can get through this promo? I have 7 lines on my account and 3 of them are iPhone 6 that are eligible for this offer as they are all paid off.

You should probably call and ask, but I don't see why not if they are eligible

No, you still owned the phone as of day one. Yes it was carrier locked, but you still owned it.

Lots of people would buy a new phone subsidized and resell it at a net profit during a launch, then keep using their old phone on the line.

I see, thanks for that clarification.

If you pay off your Next loan at the 12 month mark, you will lose the $325 worth of monthly credits for the back 12 months. If the iPhone 6 that you are trading in to att is currently worth less than $325 then you are breaking even. If it's worth more than that, you are losing money on this deal.

Is the i6 64gb resale value more than $325 right now? Just curious. I looked up trade in at Apple and it was only worth $225, what is the resale value in the market?

I only researched the 64gb 6+ which has an Amazon trade in around $300 and eBay says around $400 in excellent condition with all accessories included (but I find that hard to believe). So a non plus 6 is probably around $50 less? So you're still getting a good deal/at least breaking even.

FWIW Amazon trade in showed $265 for an unlocked 64gb 6 yesterday.

On eBay you'd have to sell it for $300 and charge actual shipping costs to net about the same. I've not looked at eBay pricing though so I don't know if they go higher or lower.

I did some research because that's what my wife has. They are selling on EBay around $350 and Gazelle is reselling them for $409.

Question? what is the definition of "in good working condition".
What if you have a crack in your screen, but it still works fine ?

That was before I found out about this deal so I did put the 400 down. That's something I have to figure out now.
If I get back that 400$ and just turn in my phone for 650$ in credits I'll pay off the new new phone next August and sell it. Wouldn't a 128 gig plus be a difference of. 220$ at that point?

Well, I figure what the heck and pulled the trigger on an order. Glad the stated delivery is week after release day as I'm out of town Friday. If they f' up the trade in I'll raise plenty of heck and ensure its straightened out or they get the iphone7 back and can eat any fees.

Have to admit, I was firmly in the no-upgrade camp as I didn't seen anything worth upgrading my iphone6 over. But since I have no reason to leave AT&T in the foreseeable future I can't see why not to take a free phone... :) (okay not fully since I order the 128, but close enough)

I went into the AT&T store to upgrade my wife's 64GB iPhone 6 which is fully paid. I wasn't thinking about upgrading get my iPhone 6+ 64GB, but I'm wondering if there's any disadvantage not to upgrade for free less tax and storage upgrade given I have five lines.

I have no intention of leaving AT&T in the short term. I have five lines all of which are paid off under Next:

iPhone 6+ 64GB
iPhone 6 64GB (Upgraded to iPhone 7 128GB)
iPhone 6s 64GB
iPhone 6s 64GB
Flip Phone

I definitely plan to upgrade to the 2017 iPhone and can always use the flip phone line which would remain a flip phone. The iPhone 6+ will have little value in 2017. My credits would apply to the 2017 phone if traded. Monthly fee would change minimally. Is there any downside I'm missing?

Has anyone been able to find out if you can switch lines after pre ordering? We have 3 lines on our account, with 2 having iPhones and always use the upgrade eligible line for a new iPhone. But with the 7 I haven't this as an option anymore...

If you pay off the phone in less than 24 months, you lose credits. So if you pay off at the 12 month mark (assuming no down payment and a $869 phone) you've paid $110 in monthly payments up to that point and have a balance of 50% ($434) which you would have to pay in a lump sum to own the phone. You would have paid att $544 plus the value of whatever phone you traded in. If your phone is worth $300 today, you are basically breaking even on this deal (i.e. It's not a great deal because it cost you $844 for a $869 phone). You could then sell the 7 and recoup whatever the market value is at that point, maybe $500, so you'd be $344 out of pocket.

Now if you live out the 24 monthly payments and get the credit each month on a $869 phone, then in two years you've paid att $219 plus the value of your original phone and you own the 7 at this point. So if your original phone was worth $300 then you've paid $519 for a $869 phone (a pretty good deal). If you can flip the 7 in two years for, say, $400 then it's only $119 out of pocket.

A lot rides on how much these phones will be worth on the open market in one year and in two years. Hope this made sense lol

In much simpiler terms: the benefit of this deal if you buy out in 12 months is the difference between your current phone's worth and $325. The benefit of this deal if you live out the full 24 months is the difference between your current phone's worth and $650.

Yes. I checked with att chat. I ordered one on my daughters line but will send back my iPhone 6s and use the new one for myself.

My plan is to use my sons line and turn in his pif 6 and then after activating the phone, switch sims and he will get my phone and I will have the 7+. I wasn't going to upgrade this time around, but do not think his 6 will be worth much in a year from now and to get the deal. Then our other lines would be eligible for the 8 if we decide to upgrade then.

Yes just talked to them and they said the 650$ is for 24 months. If i upgrade in a year i lose half of that so basically if i trade in my phone ill only get 325$.
So ill keep it the way it is with my 395$ down payment. Sell my phone on eBay for 450ish(factory unlocked-1 month old and perfect condition).
my payment on the ip7 128 gig is 19.75 a month with that down payment.
19.75x12=237
395+237=632
After one year ill owe 945(with tax)-632= 313.
then sell on eBay for 550-650
600-313= 287

so basically after a year i pay off the phone for 313$ and sell it for 600 give or take and left with 287$ for the next phone.

I really only wanted to do the next12 plan for one year as i wanted the oled model coming out hopefully next year. then get on a 24 month cycle again.
my brain hurts

Do you think the line has to have a iPhone (just to preorder, obviously no iPhone means not trade in option) the line I'm planning to use has a flip phone

That's fine I think. All they care about is that you will send them in a working 6 for the trade. That flip phone line will get a new two year commitment. You will have to pay the first three next payments before the credit kicks in but they will reimburse you for those three months.

Wait....that line might not have a data plan. You might have to pay more for that flip line.

I'm curious too. I purchased an iPhone 6S at full retail last year. Am I able to trade this in for an iPhone 7 and just pay the tax of the iPhone 7? It seems that's this is the case.

Correct. My wife and I just upgraded and we have 30 days to turn in our 2 yr old iPhone 6 with a 2 yr commitment. We don't care about the commitment since the service has been good and I receive a 24% discount through my employer.

AFAIK, it's not as simple as that but the outcome is the same. See my post above about payments.

Well, after much thought over the last few days, I just preordered. This whole things sounds like a great deal, especially since the old model of subsidizing phones is now gone. My wife and I both have 6's and so one thing that I was worried about was, if I wait another cycle, how much value are we losing in our phones?

I researched and researched and it seemed like that with getting 2 iPhone 7's that with the AT&T trade in, we would only be paying about $9/mth extra out of pocket over the course of 24 months. Sure, that locks us in for another 24 months, but that isn't really a game changer for us. I still wanted to make sure I got the info from an actual person so I just went up to the local AT&T store and talked to someone. He confirmed what I had deduced (and even encouraged me to stay on my grandfathered unlimited data package!), and so I preordered a Rose Gold 7 for my wife and I'm going to upgrade to a Black 7+ to try out the better camera.

So all in all, it looks like our bill will go up about $13/mth which is miles better that what we would've had to pay with the AUP, even taking into account what we could've sold our current phones for to help defray the cost.

I just checked at the AT&T store and they said that you had to order the iPhone from AT&T in order to take advantage of this deal. Has someone confirmed with AT&T that if can take advantage of the trade in deal if you have ordered from AT&T using the next plan?

I'm on the next plan and went to ATT today to make sure. It's a good deal compared to any other time we upgraded our iPhones. Ordered 2 today and will be delivered next Friday.

I chat with two different at&t agents yesterday online and both said i should be able to take advantage of this deal even though I preordered through apple.com.

Edited: unless they change the rule somehow...

So you don't have a phone now?
No I do, they said to bring my old iPhone in with my new one once it is delivered

You meant iPhone 7 rose gold, right? Because the iPhone 7 plus isn't free, you pay the difference.
Yeah it's like a $8 difference that their credit doesn't cover. If you get just the iPhone 7 it will be fully paid by AT&T

If you want the full $650 credit, then you need to stay on it for 24mo's

What if I just buy the iPhone7s/8 outright at full price and put my sim card in it. Would that void the agreement on the free iPhone 7? Would I still get the bill credits?
