What if I just buy the iPhone7s/8 outright at full price and put my sim card in it. Would that void the agreement on the free iPhone 7? Would I still get the bill credits?

Yes, you would. The bill credit is voided if you upgrade early or if you pay it off. They don't really care what you do with the phone as long as the agreement remains the same for the full term.

Just did this today with my old iPhone, got a shipping date to come on friday as well. Pretty simple to do at the att store, was willing to ship the phone to another address as well.

my brother got the 7 black 32. Going to take my dads 6+ to get him the 7+ on friday if they have them in the store. My guy here said they get about 50 phones and people start camping thursday night.

But you don't have to give them your old phone until you get the new one right?

Well, after much thought over the last few days, I just preordered. This whole things sounds like a great deal, especially since the old model of subsidizing phones is now gone. My wife and I both have 6's and so one thing that I was worried about was, if I wait another cycle, how much value are we losing in our phones?

I researched and researched and it seemed like that with getting 2 iPhone 7's that with the AT&T trade in, we would only be paying about $9/mth extra out of pocket over the course of 24 months. Sure, that locks us in for another 24 months, but that isn't really a game changer for us. I still wanted to make sure I got the info from an actual person so I just went up to the local AT&T store and talked to someone. He confirmed what I had deduced (and even encouraged me to stay on my grandfathered unlimited data package!), and so I preordered a Rose Gold 7 for my wife and I'm going to upgrade to a Black 7+ to try out the better camera.

So all in all, it looks like our bill will go up about $13/mth which is miles better that what we would've had to pay with the AUP, even taking into account what we could've sold our current phones for to help defray the cost.

May I ask why you stayed with att rather then switch to say sprint who is offering deals for att customers? I only ask BC I'm in a similar situation as you.

I currently have 3 lines with att with 1 line having unlimited data, 1 line having 300mb data and 3rd line being a flip phone. I'm looking at going to sprint BC I can get 16gb shared data for 3 lines for $60, plus about 25-30 for each smart phone. As long as I turn in my current iPhone 6s's they'll pay back my etf fees. My bill will go from $190/mo with att to $120/mo with sprint.

Am I missing something that I should stay with att? It seems like too good a deal to pass

Main reason, Sprint is horrible even with their "unlimited" data and prices. Their LTE is a joke at best.

I was told that I would be able to come in store and do the trade in there
Well they are shipping the phone out to me. The guy didn't say anything about coming to the store and doing that.

Per my visit to an ATT store in TX today, the delivery/swap of phones is up to you.

I chose to have mine sent (UPS in my AO) to me but rest assured, I'm taking mine back in to avoid potential issues down the road., i.e. condition of my trade-in or even the mere receipt of it.

As I stated earlier today, YMMV applies here, as is most often the case.

Ahhh thats awesome, definitely going to have to do that, the lines on friday to get that done is going to be a hassle

Are all of you getting the iPhone 7 32GB? I'm trying to find out from ATTT chat whether they will let you buy a 7 plus 128gb (and pay a little more).

The credit is for $650.00 they will allow you to pay the difference on the Next plan every month and get a higher priced iPhone.

Appreciate that! The very nice guy at first said it was only for the 32gb, then when I asked again at the end, he said he'd ask and came back with I could get a higher priced phone but have to pay the difference upfront. I like doing it monthly much better. I think I'm going to go for this. He also said that as long as we purchase the phone during this time period, even if it comes in Nov, I can still trade in my 6 Plus. This was in response to my concern that it wouldn't be in the paperwork that I was participating in this trade-in credit.

Just got told on chat that you can't do this. You have to keep sim card in the iPhone 7 till the agreement is up 24 months. So confused.

Not right, you are able to switch sim cards on any of your phone lines. I have done it with all of our phones when we hand down a phone to our kids. It doesn't effect your agreement or installment plan.

Chatted again with ATT Rep and said I can get free iPhone 7 on ATT Next then next year buy the iPhone7s/8 outright at full price and switch sim card between the two and still receive the bill credits for the iPhone 7. Wish we could all get straight answers. Anyone on here work for ATT?

I did this for both phones on my bill, one for the 32GB 7 and the other I committed to paying extra for a 128GB 7. Both are preparing to ship and deliver on Friday.

The latter (that I committed to trading in) is a 6S+ RoseGold 64GB. The guy also credited my account an additional $310.00 for this phone. Did this happen to anyone else and is there a reasoning behind this? I'm loving all of these credits (and potential ones) and I can assume it's because of the phones value.

an additional credit...nice!

did you already surrender the phone you got the additional credit for?

I gave them the IMEI number and was asked to turn off Find My iPhone. I still have the phone but it's as good as surrendered I guess, haha. I'll be trading it in physically at the AT&T store on Friday when it's planned to deliver. :)

I pre-ordered my phone through the Apple Store app. Will I still be able to take advantage of this offer if I didn't order my 7+ straight from AT&T? Do I wait until I get my phone and then go into a store to trade in my 6? Thanks!

I work for Best Buy Mobile and I already did my research and also read all the info we were giving about this promo. As long as you don't do an early upgrade or pay off your new iPhone, you will continue getting the bill credits. They don't care what you do with the phone, all they care about is that you stay the full 2 years w them.

Went online at ATT to try to do this deal last night but because I have two old iPads on my account, it said they were not eligible for an upgrade and it wouldn't let me upgrade one phone online. I'll go into the store to see.
