I have a question for y'all. I have a friend who's selling me his iPhone 6 16Gb for $140. It's in great condition and paid off. I was gonna do the trade in promotion with my iPhone 6s 64GB which another friend of mine is willing to buy for $400. Could I buy my friends iPhone for $140 and trade it in for the $650 promo? Or does the trade in have to be the iPhone thats on my line at the moment? Cuz I'd rather make a profit lol

Are they still doing the same deal? What I'm seeing on the AT&T site is saying it's a switch deal and port is required. That's not the same as before or what I printed out a few days ago. It also says existing customers can add to an eligible plan. Does that mean I'd have to add a line for the deal?

I ordered this morning and the deal was still there.

I'm pretty sure I have trust issues.

Last Friday I ordered my two iPhone 7 128gb from AT&T and they were delivered yesterday. Today I brought my two old iPhone 6 64gb in for the trade in. According to the trade-in web site, if we were to send them in instead of going to the store, we are to use the promo code "FALL2016TRADE." So...the AT&T rep went through the whole process and had me sign the paperwork. It said that each phone has a trade-in value of $170, and the code FALL2016TRADE (listed on the paperwork) removed the $170 for a total "Recycle" amount of $0.00.

No where in the paperwork does it say I'll be getting $650 over 24 months. The only value it states is $170 for the trade-in. The AT&T rep said that this is what their system prints out, but I will be getting the deal. I expressed my concern, but he said there was nothing else he could give me. I gave him the phones and took the paperwork.

Hence...the trust issue.

Spoke with a rep and she says there are 2 iPhone offers currently both offering the $650. One for switching carriers and the trade in offer. She also said the phones must be ordered from the AT&T website to qualify. I asked if I could buy from the Apple site on the Next plan and qualify and she said no.

i asked an ATT rep at a corporate store about my pre order from Apple on the Next installment, and at first he said no it had to be ordered from ATT and then looked at the promotion details and asked a manager and then said that as long as it was ordered as a Next installment plan, it qualified. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is exactly what the step by step guide from att says will happen. You are good to go.

Yes you can trade your friend's phone. Doesn't matter if it's on your plan or not. Hope your friend doesn't get wind of it, otherwise he may not be so friendly!

The store I went to Wednesday rep A there confirmed ordering through apple would qualify for the deal. Today I bring my old 6 in to trade and rep B said he has no idea that the promo work for apple.com purchase. So I said rep A told me Wednesday that it would qualify. End up being put in the queue to talk to the rep A, who confirmed I qualify; and the trade in took less than 10 minutes.

And because rep A is very helpful, hubby who wasn't planning to upgrade ordered the matte black plus with him, and will trade in his 6 for the promo after receiving the 7 in 2-3 weeks.

AT&T really needs to do a better job of communicating with their employees. Ironic, them being a communications company and all.

I traded in four iPhone 6s today related to four iPhone 7s that I had ordered with next plans. Three were ordered directly from Apple and one from AT&T. The store rep said as long as the new phones were on a next plan it didn't matter if I ordered it from Apple or AT&T.

He's switching to the Samsung s7 edge. He knows about the promo, he just doesn't like iPhone that much :p I wouldn't do that to him lol

So, those who are going to upgrade your phones next year, are you still considering this offer? I have been analyzing and came to conclusion that it is better to sell my phone instead of trading in as the credit installments will cease if the phone is payed off earlier than 24 or 30 months Next plans.

I am probably stating or repeating the obvious, but this $650 offer is only good for those who will definitely keep their phones for the entire Next plan duration. The offer itself is deceptive: why provide a 24 month upgrade every year option when they won't give us the entire credit if the balance paid off early? Those who choose this offer and want to upgrade their phones next year will only receive around $250 for their current phones, when they can sell for significantly more depending on the model they have.

I will understand if someone doesn't want to go through the hassle of selling and doesn't care about getting extra cash, but it's definitely not a good promotion for those who are looking to get advantage of this offer and also want to upgrade next year.

It will be $325 for those who upgrade in 12 months. I'm guessing we will see many rant threads a year from now when people realize how this worked.

I asked this same thing several times myself,I don't trust ATT either but I handed over my phone too .

The deal works fine for people on family plans where the old phones roll down hill to other people on the account each year. I have a friend with a 6S, 6, 5S, and 5C on the account. They are trading in the 6 and moving the 6S down. Of course the 5S and 5 users getting shafted but they got their phones free originally so they don't care.

I agree with rants part, but it's natural as many will assume they will be able to upgrade next year and receive the full credit.

All that matters for this promotion is that you keep the line for 2 years and not pay off or upgrade the device via Next. If I want next year's iPhone, I'd just pay in full for the new model so I can continue receiving the credits. Besides, $325 hassle free trade-in value for an iPhone 6 isn't bad. I can understand why it might not be such a good deal for those with the 6s or Plus models.

It's been said in this thread a few times that this WILL NOT work. If you pay off your device early instead of letting the monthly credits pay for it, the deal becomes null and void.

Where did I mention that I plan on paying off the device early? It's the 2017 iPhone I'll pay for in full for a SIM-free model at Apple Store. The Next installment for the iPhone 7, I'll keep.

Gotcha, so like a line swap or adding a new line?

Can't you simply buy the 2017 iPhone from Apple and pay full price, then sell the iPhone 7 privately? That shouldn't require any changes to your AT&T account and preserves the $650 trade-in credit.

This is what I plan on doing unless I'm missing something.
