I have a question for y'all. I have a friend who's selling me his iPhone 6 16Gb for $140. It's in great condition and paid off. I was gonna do the trade in promotion with my iPhone 6s 64GB which another friend of mine is willing to buy for $400. Could I buy my friends iPhone for $140 and trade it in for the $650 promo? Or does the trade in have to be the iPhone thats on my line at the moment? Cuz I'd rather make a profit lol

Fine print says the amount of credits will be "UP TO" $650. I am wondering if all trade-ins are created equal. Less for a 6, more for a 6s perhaps...?

Gotcha, so like a line swap or adding a new line?
No line swap or add a line at all. Just take out SIM card from iPhone 7 and put it in the new phone. Again, I plan on just getting SIM-free. Don't need to get it on first day next time around. I needed it quickly this time to replace an iPhone 5 with lock button issue.

All iPhone 6 & 6+, 6s & 6s+ are eligible for the $650 in credits as long as you purchase an iPhone 7 using the At&T Next Program. You receive the $650 in credits spread over the 24 months as long as the Next agreement is still active on that line and not paid off. The "up to" mean if you pay off the next installments early, you forfeit any remaining unpaid credits. Example, you trade in or payoff early in 12 months to upgrade to the next iPhone, you would have only received $325 of the $650 in credits. You would forfeit the remaining $325 in credits.

I just did this. Purchased a 7 on my wifes line using NEXT24. Traded in a 6 for the credits. Next year, we will upgrade her to the new phone using one of our child lines, keeping the next installments on her line going through the 24 months to keep the credits coming.

That amount is considering you get 12 credits. But there is a line that might change that amount: "Up to 3 mo. due before credits start." If it takes this amount of time, which I have a suspicion it will, the amount would be less if you trade in at 12 months.

I don't know about AT&T, but I did the same promotion for Verizon and reading the email I got it sounds like for your first credit you get reimbursed for the first two payments as well. So it sounds like the first credit ends up being around $81 total. Again this is for Verizon but AT&T will probably do the same thing. Below is a quote from the email Verizon sent me.

"Here's how it works. You'll be charged the monthly device payment amount for your phone for the first two bill cycles. Then, your monthly credits will automatically appear on your account starting with the third bill cycle until the device is paid in full.* You'll also be reimbursed for your first two payments"

That is great news then. Really hoping this the same way with AT&T.

The rep at AT&T store that helped me with the trade in confirmed yesterday that that's how it works in AT&T also. I might need to make the full payment for up to the first three months before the credit kicks in but will get reimbursed afterward. He also said trading in my phone at the store should speed up the time for the credit kicks in.

has anyone managed to buy a T-mobile ip7 at an apple store and put it on ATT Next? i am assuming that the T-mobile ip7 is carrier unlocked... is that right?

somehow, i did this with my current ip6 but i don't remember if i had to go thru any tricks to do so.

what i'd like to do is trade in one of my ip6s to get the credit but make sure that the phone is still unlocked from day 1. i think the straightforward path of buying the phone from ATT will result in having a carrier-locked phone...

I would call before you try this. They confirmed my old serial (for the iPhone 6 I was trading) listed in my ATT account and my new serial (from the iPhone 7) before processing my trade in.

I have to say the in store experience was great for me. Very quick and painless and I felt reassured that I had a physical receipt of the transaction.

Hey guys,
some help and advice please. I have a 10 line att account. I typically buy 7 iphones from apple every year at full retail and sell my older ones and by the time its all done and said I come out of pocket under $300-475 depending on which new models I get. Advantage is unlocked phone and free and clear. Never did att next or anything.

This is the first time I am considering this att trade in offer. I need 7 iphones, I understand through this offer I can only get 5. I currently have 3 iphone 6s 64gb, 1 iphone 6s Plus 128gb and 2 iphone 6 Plus 64gb ALL unlocked. I figured I can do one of a few things. 1. I can sell these on my own and just buy 5 iphone 6 16gb online cheap to use as trade in. 2. Just ignore the extra leg work and time and trade most of these in.

My concern is that at 12 months when I am ready to buy the 2017 iphones, is buying outright my only option since if I trade in I will lose credits? Can I technically at that point sell my phones and continue paying for the next 12 months the $9 and change and also buy a new phone outright and use it?

What is the best option in this scenario?

I currently pay $15 a month for all my add a lines, this does not go up at all getting this trade in deal correct?

I wonder if next year they will have some deal for people on this plan to trade in?

Funny thing is I myself and 3 other lines use most of the phone features and advantages, the other 4 lines barely use much of anything but I upgrade phones every year anyways to stay up to date and always under warranty as well as newest technology.

Help is appreciated from anyone who can help or give me their feedback being in a similar situation.

Oh I didn't know you could do this at the store. So they take the phone for you so you don't have to ship it??

If you sell your phones next year, wouldn't they still be locked into att? As far as the $15 got each line, that won't change. Your rare plan stays the same unless you change it. 10 lines?

Huh? You want AT&T to finance a T-Mobile phone?

Could you please record your conversation with the AT&T rep when you ask about this and share it? :D

Once you've paid off the remaining balance on the phone you can get it unlocked.

Of course once you pay off the phone you stop receiving the monthly credits too.

My wife is a non-techie and don't much care what phone she has so long as it works. I jumped on this promo and in a year if I feel like upgrading we'll just move the ip7 to her line and keep the Next credits coming.

This is probably a stupid question but should we wipe the phone before taking it in?

I went to ATT website and clicked on the $650 credit deal. It took me through the process and I upgraded my phone to the 7 Plus. Doesn't ship til the end of October.

After clicking on the $650 deal, and then clicking upgrade instead of new customer it never said anything else about the credit. I'm assuming they will send me information on how to trade in my old 6 Plus at some point? Anyone know?

I just went into ATT and did it in person. Just left. Was an easy process.
