I wasn't fully expecting to upgrade until next year. But I saw this offer and its basically trading in my 64gb iPhone 6 non-S for $650 and its hard to pass that up .

ButI was concerned about what would happen when I want to upgrade in 2017. I had questions around whether I would receive the full 24 months of reimbursement even if I was using a different phone in 12 months so I hit up their chat department.

They said that as long as it is 'on my account' I would continue to get the credit. I had to clarify what that meant. Basically as long as it wasn't traded in, paid off early, or registered with another carrier then I would continue to get the reimbursement over the entire term. Even if the phone was no longer being used and was replaced. I would need to upgrade to the 2017 phone via unlocked/non-upgrade to continue to get that reimbursement. I could do the trade in 2017 but I'd have to pay the phone off early and lose half the credits to do that.

Does this sound right to everyone else?

Now this confuses me. With Next every year, you are only required to make 50% payment to trade in and upgrade your phone. "After upgrade, unbilled installments are waived". So if I take advantage of the promotion now, am I required to pay in full before trade in/upgrade next year even though I'm on Next every year?

No, but the benefit of the offer is reduced because you are only getting half of its value.

We're talking two different things. What you are saying is correct through their typical upgrade program. You have to have paid at least half and you can trade the phone in and get the next phone and continue to pay the standard monthly costs. You never 'own' the phone in this upgrade method and you aren't eligible for trade in offers like the one we're discussing here where you must own the device.

The difference between that and what I chatted to AT&T about is I don't necessarily want to trade the phone in as I want to get the remaining $325 over the next 12 months into 2018. I would also 'own' the phone at the end of that cycle and would be eligible for special trade in offers (like this one) or I can sell it on my own privately.

No, once you upgrade, your remaining credits would cease. You will get the $650 in credits over 24 months as long as that Next agreement is still in place. So, if you upgrade in 12 months, you would forfeit 12months of credits.

Right, it's like you got $325 for your trade in if you upgrade early. The real benifit to this deal is to stay on this line for 24 mo's. It works for me because we have 3 other lines that will be eligible in a year from now that we can use if we want the 8.

AT&T just changed the fine prints. Minimum monthly data fee should be $50 or more, which means 10GB or more users only. They screwed. I expected.

For example, I currently have an iPhone 6+ 64gb and want an iPhone 7+ 128 gb ($869). I send AT&T my 6+ and they give me monthly credits and a 7+. After 12 months, I've paid them $110 in payments (after subtracting the credits) and my 6+ and send them back the 7+ so that I'm free and clear to order an iPhone 8 in 2017. If I continue paying on the 7+ for the full 24 months then I've given them $220 in payments but I retain the 7+ which is probably worth $300-400 in 2018 when I've paid it off. So if I trade in in 12 months I'm out of pocket $110 while if I payoff in 24 months I'm actually even or up on the deal depending on how much the 7+ is worth in sept 2018.

Paying $110 for a phone is still way better than the $440 I'd have to pay without this deal to lease the phone for those 12 months but it becomes even sweeter when you live out the full 24 payments to keep the phone and recoup money by selling it on your own.

"Must trade-in an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus in good working condition that is fully-paid off."

Can a contract 6s plus on another line with 1 more yr left be traded in?

"minimum $50/month service plan"

so $30 unlimited user not eligible with a big family plan bucket of minutes ? thats well over $50?

might cancel my order then ,ugh.

cancelled my 7 matte black 128 on apple too at full price, and now the delivery date is pushed.

may just sit this one out period

"up to 3 months before credits take effect"

So that's nearly $60 less than $650 trade in, $590, this whole thing is making me sketched out all of a sudden

No, only a pif trade in on a new or existing eligible line can qualify for the deal :(

"pif trade in"?

what i mean is, I'm going to use another line on account not in contract, but it being a contract phone is that an issue?

This kind of throws a wrench in for the people who have older plans like unlimited data I would think.

The three months thing...the chat rep copy and pasted to me the deal details that were given to employees and it specifically states that multiple credits will be issued for the first month that it takes effect in order to bring the credits current. It's just a processing lag that they will make up for once the paperwork is straight. But again that requires trust of att. I don't like how they are messing with the fine print. It's also not that great of a deal for someone with a 6s+ as that is probably pretty close to being worth $650 on the market today.

Get iPhone 7 for $0 when you trade in an eligible iPhone*

when you buy on AT&T Next® with qual. wireless svc. (min. $50/mo.). iPhone 7 32GB free after $650 in monthly bill credits. Tax due at sale.

It's unclear whether the $50 is data only or includes the Monthly Access fee.

also is it an issue the phone i want to trade in is still in contract on that line, would that matter?

I meant that the phone you want to trade in must be PIF and Not under contract. If your contract is still going, then you don't own the phone. If your contract is up, then you do own the phone.

gotcha so between that and unlimited, I'm most likely ineligible for this offer huh?

they're smart to not send the email followup to those that need to trade in until after shipping the phone, further lure ya in :p
