"qualifying service" certainly doesn't sound like grandfathered, dying to get you off of it unlimited plans, qualifies.

Yes, that is what I fully expect to happen. Next is just a payment plan on a loan from AT&T. As long as you have not paid off the loan, or cancelled the loan by doing an upgrade through them, then you are still going to be making monthly Next payments and be getting monthly credits until the phone is paid off. I intend to buy the 2017 phone, assuming is a big redesign, via Apple Upgrade Plan or full price out right. The only way this could screw us over is if there is an even better Next offer in 2017 requiring an iPhone 7 trade in. Then we would have to miss out on that deal (or do an early payout of this deal which would negate some of the benefit). However, I fully expect this to be the last such "free phone" offer since this was hastily put together this morning in response to TMobile and Verizon's deals and not fully thought out. I think AT&T is going to be taking a bath on all of these trade ins. No way they are losing less money by giving everyone $650 vs losing a few people to TMobile because of TMobile's free phone offer.

This isn't the first time they've done something like this. A few years ago I traded in my iphone 4 for $200. I think it was when the 6 came out.

i think it might be premature, but I'm gonna cancel.

i dont want waiting weeks for it to ship, and then realize I'm not qualified and return the phone, deal with the hassle, all this crap.

where???
This is from their website right now:

I am on a $40 a month plan.
There is conflicting information about the $50/month requirement.

I see it here:
https://www.att.com/shop/iphone.html
"when you buy on AT&T Next® with qual. svc. (min. $50/mo.)"
However, when I click through to "See Offer details" I see what you posted, with no mention of the $50/month requirement. In fact, the phrasing ". Wireless: Monthly postpaid voice & data req’d (existing customers can add to elig. current plans)." suggests that grandfathered unlimited customers are eligible too.

It's enough to drive a person to Verizon! (j/k)

I think some of you are overreacting. That $50 most likely includes data and cell combined, not just data.

"Get iPhone 7 for $0 when you trade in an eligible iPhone*

when you buy on AT&T Next® with qual. wireless svc. (min. $50/mo.). iPhone 7 32GB free after $650 in monthly bill credits. Tax due at sale."

That's what it shows now.

i was concerned that the 7+ wouldn't qualify and asked about it because it just keeps referencing free iPhone 7 32gb. At first they said only the 7 and then I mentioned that I read 7/7+ and then they said it was ok. What do they mean two promotions?? Here's part of the convo.

I agree that the $50/month is probably total monthly service for your account before taxes and fees but it gives me a bad feeling that they continue to change the terms and conditions and there is no paper trail. I think this is still a good deal, especially if you are trading in a 6 non-S model and especially if you intend to pay it out for the full 24 months. However if you've got a 6s or are going to trade it in in 12 months then it is probably a wash with selling your 6s yourself and skipping this deal. I just cancelled my 7+ preorder and will be skipping the 7 series phone altogether. Thanks for the fun day everyone. :)

Telecoms in the US offering this, the prices are higher in the Netherlands, when I contact them in the Netherlands their reply is, we won't do that, our prices are already so cheap.. What a joke.

overreacting perhaps, but also its at&t, I can see them just shrugging and moving on and capturing 'tmobile copy cat' marketing that comes and goes

Yes, AT&T confirms this. $50 total.
Steve: You do qualify, it is $50 all together. Your plan will have access charges so you do qualify. Don't worry you will get that offer

I just chatted with a rep. She said $50 includes data+line charge. I'm paying $32(6GB data) + $25(line 1) + $25(line 2) + Tax. She said I could order 2 of iPhone 7/+. I don't trust them though... it can be changed anytime because they are AT&T!!! o_O

It's not over reacting, you want to make sure you get the deal. If it makes you feel uneasy, then don't do it. Trust your gut. But, if you have questions, i would chat with ATT first just to be sure, because we don't work for ATT and are just going by what we were told and by what we are reading in the promotion details. It's good to do your homework first so you can be sure you are making the right decision.

Yeah I just don't want to rely on their good merit for 24 months, edit: 30 months, in a row to uphold the deal. Not worth the head ache to talk to support to get it applied or convince people on the AT&T side.

Would rather the flexibility than not. But it's good for people who unambiguously will get the deal

if i had a 6 16gb i'd probably gamble it , for the gains

but with a 6s+ 64 the only better model is 128 6s+, so I could probably get around $500 resell for mine, and a $150 hit or so to just get it over with, and not worry about crap, is probably worth it to me at this point come to think of it,

and its jailbroken, and going cold turkey without phablet if i got a defective 7+ or something, i can already see it getting ugly and being regrettable.

will still likely wet my feet on the 7/7+ but maybe thats good too

I agree with you on your situation ;)

It makes me angry how they're not aware of all the requirements for their own promos!

So do they just send an email out if we preordered? Or do i need to call in and cancel and do another order with the trade in?

the ambiguity is what will get them off the hook, for whatever they feel like doing.. corporations get red carpet treatment,

its just to make headlines, surprised slick deals isn't being more critical tbh, +58 or so on there

again I'm positive the deal is a good one for those perfectly aligned to it, and will have it happen, but for me it seems like get on at&t next first and ask questions later,

I am missing something. I have a 6+ 128gb. I am going to preorder a 7+ 128gb. It won't ship until Oct 7 at the earliest. How do I get this "free" promo when there is nothing in the "checkout" process that mentions it?
Has anyone got an answer to this. I am ready to move on it, but don't want to loss the "free" on some technicality.

The ATT rep told me that you qualify if you have a PIF i6 and are not under contract. Once you receive the phone you go to the ATT retail store and turn in your 6 and they start the promotion for you. As long as you pre ordered before Sept 30th

****Edited: US promotion ends on Sept 15th****

Yes 30 next plan and 6plus 64gb paid off

You do not need to cancel it then ;) You do the trade in and promotion after you receive it. But I did chat with ATT just to make sure I qualified
