So they said if you bought it between release date and september you'll get the discounted price..promo starts tomorrow.

What I'm wondering is, I bought mine literally 7 days into October...so I miss the deadline by 7 days. If I hold off on buying my phone for a week will I then be eligible too? I need to talk to the manager that I dealt with at AT&T..that would be total BS if 7 days costs me an extra 200 per phone (i bought 2). The girl I talked to just now was an idiot...the one I dealt with last week when I preordered in store was very nice and made sense.

No, it has nothing to do with when you purchased. Reread the announcement:
We’re now pleased to offer our iPhone 3G customers who are upgrade eligible in July, August or September 2009 our best upgrade pricing, beginning Thursday, June 18.

Well, what's the difference? Because the whole point is that iPhone 3G owners are the ones that were unhappy that they werent eligible to get the 199/299 price when upgrading....and it would be 12 months from purchase wouldnt it? That's how she made it sound....not one iPhone 3g owner has had the phone for 1 year at this point so they are doing this so that its an early "12 month mark" from the date they purchased the phone....it absolutely has something to do with when you purchased it..what else would they go by?!

I guess define the terms of "upgrade eligible"...if it means something else?

I bought iPhone 2G the day it came out, I bought iPhone 3G in early October....am I eligible then if it doesnt matter when I purchased?

Different customers have different upgrade eligibility. Some customers can upgrade in fewer months than others. It appears to be largely dependent on your rate plans, maybe FAN, and maybe account history.

I just tried calling and the rep did not know what I was talking about. But basically she told me I am not eligible until December... same as it has always been.

It absolutely matters when you purchase. That's step one. Step two is then to see how many months into your contract you're eligible to upgrade. Step three is if that is before October, you can upgrade for $199/$299.

My text response said I'm not eligible until March 2010...very odd. They arent very clear on eligibility. I've already paid for the phones, but if I could get $400 dollars back I sure wouldnt mind. Kinda lame the way they work things.

Sorry didn't see this post before i posted this one

For all you who said complaining was a waste of time!
Last week many people got some harsh comments when US and UK iPhone customers posted their unhappy comments in this forum! in fact they got slated from most of you and the threads ran and ran and in the were even closed for all the negatives well can i just say thanks to the unhappy complainers because look what has happened

Big up the complainers

YAY!!! 32GB iPhone here i COME!! LOL! i was getting the 16GB for 399, but all thanks to att, i'll be getting the 32GB for 299! HELL YEAH!

I said "if it doesnt matter when I purchased?" in a sarcastic tone to outphases response before that...sorry...

Still not sure if I'll be getting the lower price or not...find out tomorrow I guess.

You paid $600 for your 3G iPhone?

You're not eligible to upgrade to another subsidized phone until March. What's your confusion?

Here's a test to see if you will be eligible tomorrow: Is March 2010 [or your eligibility date] after September 2009?

If no, then you are eligible.
If yes, then you are not eligible.

No, you don't.

Wow that is bull sh#@....so basically a customer that spent a year with AT&T, then bought the 3g on launch day, doesnt get to take advantage of this...but the guy in line behind this person who was a new customer that day most likely does get the "best upgrade price"......not cool, AT&T

Have you not purchased cell phones in the last 10 years? That's how subsidized pricing has worked in the US. New contracts get better deals. Those who have not fulfilled their agreements will not get the better deal. One year is less than the two years you agreed to, so you have not fulfilled your complete agreement.

Just got off the phone with two different ATT reps and they said I was eligible but that it wouldn't show in their system until tomorrow. I bought two 8gb around july 08.

A) If you bought an AT&T iPhone 3G in July/Aug/Sept of 2008, then CHECK TOMORROW, June 18th, for the new upgrade policy. Do not bitch and moan that you bought on launch day and you're not eligible until you've checked tomorrow.

B) Yippie! I'll order one tomorrow. And next year at this time, everyone will be bitching again...!

Why is it not cool? You signed the TWO YEAR contract. I don't understand why people are getting pissed at AT&T.

They are offering a break for SOME people whose bill > $100 and will become eligible in July, Aug or Sept. So if you bill is not over $100 and are not eligible for an upgrade in July, Aug or Sept then you are SOL! So deal with it.

Sounds good to me. About time AT&T did something nice! I'm still not eligible yet but I'm glad some of you out there can get hooked up! :)

JUST off the phone with AT&T and I was the one that told them!. The updates they got was that TOMORROW at 6 AM (EST I guess) they will update everyones eligibility who is eligible!!

we need to say THANK YOU FOR LISTENING AT&T!
