I heat you. I have been in AT&T since the original grandfathered plan. I was super worried about coverage especially in the hospitals and OR where I work. I use to have T-mobile and the building penetration was terrible.

However with AT&T I couldn't even make phone calls in my own house as I would get drops. I called multiple time and their fix was to CHARGE me for a microcell!!!

Since switching I actually get clear calls, works in the hospitals and OR and no drops in my house!!

T-Mobile's coverage in my area is actually excellent (I live in NYC), but it's the coverage outside of the city that concerns me. Last summer, I went to the Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo Park with some friends, roughly 30-40 miles north of NYC. I had full LTE signal on AT&T with decent speeds (between 10-15Mbps down). One of my friends, who is on T-Mobile, had no service. We both use iPhones (6s and a 6s Plus), so the bands were not the issue.

My wife and I travel a lot, so coverage is crucial. I'm regularly keeping an eye on T-Mobile's coverage expansion. The moment their footprint matches that of AT&T, I'll switch in a heartbeat.

I'm an AT&T customer for 9 years now. Single line user. I find this incredibly insulting. Why wouldn't I simply leave for VZW and save $10 a month? I thought they would undercut VZW by $5, not this BS. And that choice plan is a joke at those ridiculous speeds.

When it's time to upgrade I will probably leave for VZW. Plus their phones are by default unlocked for international GSM use unlike AT&T.

Single line users get unbelievably screwed in the mobile space.

AT&T confirmed to me that the FAN will apply. I have it in writing.

Yea just spoke to our rep and he said that there is no reason why FAN won't apply, he did say though you can't combine military and fan which we all know already.

FAN doesn't work on the new ones

Dammit!!!! This is so conflicting. I really want the corporate discount to apply versus the military one (25% vs 15%). I guess I have to wait until next month, when people go through a bill cycle on the new plans

3 Mbps speeds? ATT always manages to be late to the party with the most underwhelming value

I think many people are missing an important note about the 3Mbps limit: that's only after 22GB of usage:

Of course, there's a max of 1.5Mbps (480p) on all video.

I was in an AT&T corporate store today doing something else on my account and I asked about the FAN discounts with the new unlimited plus and choice accounts and the response was "of course FAN discounts will continue to apply like they do now."

It doesn't matter what a clueless (or not) rep tells you, all that matters is what's behind the curtain. Towards the bottom of this page that promotes the plan, it says "Qualified Military & Veterans will receive a 15% discount on their monthly service charge."

https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/unlimited-plan.html

Nothing about FAN or any other discounts. I'm no lawyer, but I read it as military only since they specifically go out of their way to mention it. Hope it's otherwise, but I wouldn't count on it.

Or that says that 3Mbps is the max speed overall, but after 22 GB of usage the speeds could be slowed down even more essentially.

Oh that's interesting, I didn't read it like that at all. With all these terms, who knows what they mean.

Reading the fine print, you are correct:
AT&T UNLIMITED CHOICE℠: Data speed limited to a max of 3Mbps. Plan is not eligible for Stream Saver, but for content we can identify as video, speed will be at a max of 1.5Mbps at Standard Definition quality (about 480p). Data and video speeds will be capped at amounts shown above, regardless of the network your device is on (for example 4G LTE, 4G or 3G). Tethering and mobile hotspot use prohibited (except for these products: Connected Cars, Hot Spots, and Wireless Home Phone and Internet).

Nope, you're missing the point. There’s ALWAYS a maximum speed of 3Mbps. In other words, after you reach 22GB, you're connection speed will be throttled even slower.

May be throttled, but who can tell at those speeds anyway.

The one person that said it doesn't have proof. They are just saying that. Don't let it conflict. The vast majority of us here who have asked have gotten a yes from AT&T.

Editing for massive auto-correct typos.

There's a reason why that plan is $60. It is 3Mbps all the time, until you get to 22GBs, at which point it could drop even further. For "real" LTE speeds you need the $90 plan.

Did my research. Store in Chicago says they were all told FAN will NOT apply to new plans. They said your account will still show FAN but that it will not be applied to that plan as it will be deemed ineligible. Everyone there seems confident about it too.

Trusting them over call center reps.

I just online chatted with att rep. And he stated the FAN will not apply and if I wanted to save money lock in the unlimited plan before Thursday with no tethering. So if you don't care about tethering I would go with the current unlimited plan offered.

I'd suggest whomever has a FAN discount to call AT&T and have them walk through a conversion, when available. You can then see if the FAN is applied when they discuss the new monthly total with you.

So I just left the at&t store and we cannot get the new plan with teathering without signing up with direct tv? Is that right? I also asked about adding a tablet to the plan and they said an additional $40. Looked online and it stated an additional $20 only.

I told her that's what It said online and basically blew me off.

Any thoughts?

This new plan isn't available until Thursday, so maybe she hadn't heard of it yet?

I am going to trust the call center over in store because stores don't actually have any information yet. The call center rep told me he just received his FAQ about the plans and mentioned FAN applies. Obviously we won't know for sure until Thursday.

She had the hand outs that they had given her today. March 2 is the release date. She totally knew about it.

I despise visiting mobile carrier stores. They are worse than used car salesmen these days. Last time I had to port a number into my account, one rep kept coming back over to talk to me about ATV and DirecTV, even though I don't want either. He wouldn't stop, until I finally threatened to dump AT&T altogether if he didn't leave me alone.

Please do research before you post this. Multiple people, including myself have confirmed with AT&T that it does work. Including the post above yours.
IMO, it's confirmed with AT&T when AT&T posts it authoritatively on their website. Otherwise, it's just playing "AT&T rep roulette", where you never know which answer you're going to get.

I've seen too many launches from too many companies (over the years) where well-meaning reps have given out information they truly believe was correct, only to have it be incorrect.

Edit: absolutely agree with your comment about it not knowing for sure until Thursday!

I'd rather stick w/ my current AT&T plan 20GB per /mo. w/ roll over data, 4 lines, roughly $130 /mo. after corporate discount. As much as I hate having to stay within the restrictions a data cap every month (especially w/ 2 teens), I refuse to have my connection speed completely crippled. If T Mo had good coverage outside of major cities, I'd dump AT&T in a nanosecond.

Yes, but for the poster to make a blanket statement with having no evidence to back it up only adds to the confusion.

Same here. We are on a 2GB plan and only use about 700MB of that per month, simply because it's just my wife currently on it and she doesn't do data intensive tasks on a phone.

There's no TMo signal where I live either.

But others have said multiple stores backed the claim that the FAN won't apply.

Stores do have that information per eurogeek:

Frankly it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't.

Where is the new unlimited plan for AT&T I can't find it when I try to upgrade my plan on my att page?
