Who is they. As stated, many people are getting reports, including myself, that FAN applies. I have it in writing.

I called a customer service rep who looked through the release notes and found where it states FAN does not apply.

If "they" are wrong, then great. If it doesn't apply, I seriously doubt whether you have it in writing or not is gonna matter

Well, I'm locked in the current unlimited plan now and my 25% discount does apply to the $60 portion of it, making it $45. At least I have that to fall back to if the new Unlimited plan on Thursday doesn't have a FAN discount.

At least you get "something" (10GB of tethering) for the price increase, if you do that.

that's pretty much what i need it for, tethering, the jailbreak community hadn't shown the enthusiasm that's been present in recent years so ... i'm giving up on them. the other is the ability to record Pandora songs to the phone as they're playing, will find another option for this, way past needing a ton of free apps. bye bye grandfather come Thursday, and i'm told the unlimited plus will have "enhanced services" and quicker this and that's per ATT associates i spoke with.
it will be an increase until the price increases again this year, then it'll be less, ask your company if they have a discount option, several have a 28% discount making it all worth it. under $90 unlimited LTE everything and 10 gb LTE tethering, i'm there.

You can doubt if I have it in writing all you want. I have it in writing and it was notated on my account that I called in. They must honor what they put out in writing. Whether it be a monthly credit or not, I will get my 21% on $115.

I was specifically told that in the FAQ, FAN applies.

the new unlimited plan is available on Thursday although there is an option to go to unlimited plus today from the site.
Where? I have been on the website all day, it says coming soon.

Where ? Link please?

Also is this for existing customers and do you need to have Direct TV ?

It's not black and white, you are comparing Apples and oranges.
The USA is much bigger than Denmark, hell, it's much bigger than Europe, so having all this (mobile) infrastructure is much more expensive.

The US is actually a bit smaller than Europe taken as a whole:

US - 3.797 million mi²
Europe - 3.931 million mi²

Given there isn't that much of a difference, Europe happens to be more densely populated:

US - 318.9 million
Europe - 743.1 million

We've got a lot more empty space here in the US, with fewer people supporting the cost of infrastructure in those areas along the major interstate highways, etc.

That is because you live in a tiny country that doesn't need much in the way of infrastructure in comparison with the US. Your little country doesn't have 324 million in it. The phone companies in your little country doesn't have to provide coverage for 3.8 million square miles.

If I get in my car and drive east for 1392 km, I am still in the state of Texas.

I always chuckle when I hear this LAME excuse (our country is so big whine whine whine). Yes you are right, my little country doesn't have 324 million possible subscribers, we are less than 10 million.

To get a bit more detailed, U.S. has 36 inhabitants per square kilometer (92 sq. mile). That's almost DOUBLE of Sweden (20/km²) or TRIPLE Norway or Finland (13-16/Km²). So our prices should be DOUBLE or TRIPPLE your prices - with your way of thinking...

Yep. I guess AT&T figures that since they're making hotspot available on the new $145.00 plan, a family of 4 should be willing to pay $5.00 more for the privilege of using hotspot?

Also, unfortunately, if someone doesn't need hotspot but they still want "unlimited" data, starting Thursday, they have to agree to having all their data throttled to 3 Mbps, which seems like a cruel joke. I have AT&T's gigabit fiber at my home (which I love). There's no way I would voluntarily agree to capping my cellular data throughput to 3 Mbps. That's insane. I'd love to meet the suits that arbitrarily decided that 3 Mbps would be the figure they would go with. My guess is, they came up with that number by playing a game of darts.

The real headline here is, "If you want unlimited data and don't need hotspot, sign up before Thursday"

Yes, but even with the current UNLIMITED plan, you may be paying more with that then you would be with the new UNLIMITED Plan w/ Tethering. At least it is with me. To switch my 6 Smart phones & 1 wearable, it would be $255 (with discounts) a month. However, switching to the new UNLIMITED TETHERABLE plan, it will be $245 (before discounts) or 227.75 after (15% veterans discount).

That includes Russia and the Middle East, no? I believe the poster was referring to what is modern-day (Western) Europe.

It includes the part of Russia within Europe, but not the larger portion that is in Asia. It does not include the Middle East, which is entirely within Asia and part of north eastern Africa.

Yep, people aren't realizing that the device fee is now $20 instead of $40. So its cheaper than the plan that came out 2 weeks ago, as you stated.

Every time these american data plans are presented i laugh:) look up at the skylines if you wonder where your money is going.
Unlimited 4g everything is about 17$ here

Gotta look at the whole picture. What are your utility/energy prices, what are your tax rates, etc.

For instance, I know much of Europe has data caps on their home internet plans, which I find insane.

Yes but that number does include Russia as stated, Ukraine, parts of Turkey, Slovenia and so on. Georgia and Armenia are technically part of the Middle East and are European countries. As I mentioned, I believe the poster was referrering to Western Europe. France, Spain, Germany and so on.

Norway, Finland and Sweden are similar still more densely populated than our empty states:

Alaska 1.3 sq mi.
Wyoming 6 sq. mi.
Montana 7 sq. mi.
North Dakota 10.5 sq. mi. (our fastest growing state in 2015)

Because that has what to do with AT&T, VZN, TMO et all? And *IF* we should take that into account our prices should be higher at not lower...

Because, for instance, Comcast don't have it?

I am thinking of locking my self in before Thursday like you did because I have 25% FAN discount that I also want to keep using.

You get tethering, you get unlimited calls to canada and mexico, and it's available to everyone due to TMO putting the fire under everyone's feet. It's not necessarily better than what you have, aside from the fact that new everyone doesn't have to rely on buying someones old phone line to have it available to them, or jump through stupid hoops like signing up for direct tv if they don't want to.
Thanks LordOfTheReef, that's what I was looking for :)

And that has what to do with what I pay for cell service in Florida? We have parts in Northern Sweden that has like 0 or 1 person per square mile too, still the prices are the same all over the country (as in the U.S.).

So the new plus plan is 90 bucks how much will taxes come to about 15 ?

i spoke with the Loyalty group this morning, my taxes were around $5, entire unlimited plus with discount and taxes roughly $87 n change, w/ tethering

What does any of this have to do with AT&T's unlimited offering again?
