The only thing that seems truly unlimited is the number of these plans that get named 'Unlimited' which then stipulate various limitations within the terms of the plan.

What is really unlimited is the number of times you keep repeating this in every thread about these plans. Only someone who can't read would not be able to understand they are sold as "unlimited data" not "unlimited 4G data." Even still for most people 22-28GB of data is defacto unlimited.

I'm on T-Mobile, with about 10 lines (business plan)

But I fail to see why anyone is still on AT&T.

With T-Mobile being the cheaper option, and Verizon having a vastly better network than AT&T while still being cheaper, it astounds me that people are still on AT&T.

This is not meant as a personal attack, please explain why you wouldn't switch from them?

Coverage. Currently paying $160/month for 4 lines with 15 GB data. I have an iPad with data service from T-Mobile. Inside many buildings (a large part of my office building, a storage building where I run a side business out of) there is no T-Mobile signal while I have solid AT&T service (I'm in DC, so a major urban area). Outside, T-Mobile has excellent service. However, if I am visiting/traveling through rural areas, there is a significant difference between T-Mobile/AT&T coverage. Do I do that frequently? No. But I need the coverage when I am. I've run the numbers and for what I would save, the potential loss of coverage is not worth it.

Last I checked, Verizon was significantly more for the same service, but that may have changed. Likely any savings on VZW would not be worth the cost of having to replace everyone's devices. In my experience, I haven't found VZW's coverage to be significantly better than AT&T's. For many years, AT&T had vastly superior coverage in Vermont (the place I'm most likely to be if I'm in a rural area) due to their acquisition of Unicel, but Verizon seems to have closed the gap.

T-Mobile is a great option for my iPad data, though, since I can always tether to my phone if I'm out of T-Mobile coverage, which is rare. I have a 6 GB/month plan on that device.

Still not a good deal...

I have one of the second iteration mobile share value plans
  • 20gb (Double Data Deal on 10gb Plan) ($100)
  • No limit tethering
  • $15/Line
  • No upgrade fees...
  • FAN discount

4 Lines ~$160/month with FAN discount applied and on average 30gb of data available

So, they raised the initial cost, lowered the per line charge, but it is still not worth it for me to switch, not to add $60 to my bill to go from 30GB to unlimited. Sorry, not happening.

How are you paying $60 less for the 30GB plan?? The 30GB starts at $155 for 1 line or $175 for 2 lines. This is $145 for 2 lines.

Limitations are not on how much data can be used.

I have the grandfathered unlimited plan at $80/month. I want the Tethering, but it doesn't look like I'd be saving much.

If I Autopay with a credit card it appears its $95 a month for Unlimited Plus. Throw in the U Verse $25 Discount (which I do not see Uverse listed on ATT site) and I'd be saving $10/month. Although I'd get Tethering. Certainly not as great as they make it sound, unless I'm missing something.
Says excludes credit cards for auto pay discount

Way better rural coverage. And inside buildings...zero rated data for my directv app. Able to buy cheap ass phones and they work ............but most importantly i have piece of. Mind that wherever my peeps are on my 5 lines they have the 2nd best coverage of all carroers in the usa...i dont mind paying xtra for that.......

It was original the 15GB plan, they had a DOUBLE your data promo a few years ago, so I am paying for the 15GB plan and getting 30GB :)

Ah okay, that makes sense. Yes, that would be a better deal. But this is a much better deal for my 3 unlimited grandfathered lines. With my 21% discount, it drops the bill by 40 a month and I get unlimited minutes and addition of tethering.

Well, they're headed in the right direction now, at least.

As someone with a 24% FAN discount, the new "plus" plan includes hotspot and is ~$5.00 per month cheaper than the existing unlimited plan that does not include hotspot. Something to consider.

Also, the old grandfathered goes up $5 on Wednesday.

I have three reasons: 1) I don't trust T-Mobile's coverage (otherwise, I'd have switched a long time ago), 2) I get a 25% discount with AT&T through my employer and 3) Verizon is extremely restrictive when it comes to phones that can be used on its network. My employer also offers a 19% discount with Verizon, but the phone restrictions are a dealbreaker for me.

I'm on a grandfathered plan and get unlimited text and unlimited mobile to mobile. I guess that's actually different but I have over 7k rollover minutes lol.

Right but you are paying separately for the grandfathered data ($40) and grandfathered unlimited text (I think that was $10? -- I was paying $5 for 200). Then the least expensive talk package was $35. So minimum you are paying $95 plus tax and no tethering. TMob is $70 tax included. VZW is $80 plus tax. This new ATT plan seems to be $90 plus tax but before DTV discount. So any of these would be less expensive with more features that the original ATT grandfathered plan.

Those were the best deals to hit in a long time. I managed to call and get the double data applied to my 10gb plan :);).

Not to mention that was when the base data price was higher so the FAN discount was better as well since it is off the data portion and not the line fees (at least in my case).

Despite the hate, this is actually competitive with Verizon's pricing. In fact, my my calculations, the "plus" plan is $5 cheaper and you get $25 off direct tv, should that matter to you. Yeah, ok, I can agree they should have launched it this way the first time, rather than redo it after just a week, but I think it should still be acknowledged that they came to bat with a comparable (IMO quite a bit better) offer than VZW.

That is great news!

Yes! So my 550 minutes 3 grandfathered unlimited plan is $185 after discount, that becomes $150+ fees, so $162~. But the unlimited was going up $15 (5x3) this week, so it was going to be $199. So I am saving $37 a month plus getting tethering, unlimited minutes and Canada/Mexico.

If you are talking about your FAN discount, I don't think they will allow those on these plans. Only Military/Veterans of 15%. I have a 25% discount right now, and if I was able to keep that, I would consider changing plans, as it would only be an additional $20 a month and I would not have to worry about the 3 kids using up all the data.

I am on AT&T website now, comparing my plan against the current Unlimited plan. My current bill for 6 smart phones and 1 wearable is 197.50. On the Unlimited Data plan, it's 255 (last weeks rollout). I also get tethering with my plan. So, to move to unlimited, it would be 155 (I pay by CC) + 80 (4 additional smart phones) + 10 (wearable), that would be $235 (only $20 cheaper, but you get tethering). Now, I am a veteran, but not sure who qualifies for the 15% off, as at most, I am looking at maybe another $17.25 off, so I am looking at 227.75, $30 more than I pay now, Even now, I might consider it.

Nice announcement AT&T. Still, how is this any different than, or better than, my original unlimited contract that I have held for years and years and years?

I have been with AT&T since before they bought up AirTouch Cellular. In fact, I have been with them since before they bought L.A. Cellular. I am a plank-holder in the original unlimited contract. I don't know if this makes me rare and glorified or just plain stupid.

Actually, I'm kinda apathetic. But now that this has been announced, I want to know how is it any different, and how is it better?

AT&T confirmed to me that the FAN will apply. I have it in writing.

So can I apply auto pay and corporate discounts ? I don't see a option where I get 5 off with auto pay ? Also I'm on corporate and don't see the new plans yet , I see that someone else did ?
