And people complain when Apple uses the water sensor to disallow warranty coverage. Wow. Just wow.

yes, yes i do bitch about that. it sucks.

it does suck that apple with give that lying POS a new phone, but won't even look at mine because the overly sensitive water sensor placed JUST inside the opening came in contact with something over 52% humidity. nonsense!

I'm not a fan of practices and ideologies held by many Verizon stores managers and DMs. I also don't like the fact that you HAVE to get a $9.99 data plan on majority of the phones in their store. I'm on a family plan (I pay for my iPhone and the phones my parents use), and I find it highly ridiculous that they'd have to get a data plan they would never use if they got friggin Envy 3 phones, a samsung alias, or even the samsung intensity.

Just don't trust Big Red, but good luck to those of you that do.

Exactly! This is pretty well exactly what Apple's vision of the way an iPhone is used for too. Every one of their ads lately has the user doing exactly this kind of stuff with it. But the simple tasks they do in the ads would be impossible if they were on VZW.

But you know what might be possible? Getting any internet service in my hospital call room. I think you can guess which I'd prefer. ;)

I rarely talk on my phone anyway. For me personally it's not an issue and most VZN subscribers likely feel the same.

And AT&T is neutering phones (like the Android Backflip) more than Verizon these days. Not defending the past, but seriously get with the times.

Contrary to popular belief people, there are those that are happy on the big striped globe network.

----------

Steve-O said that this iPhone is going to be an "A+ Update". I honor the place where his words and reality become one.

I used to work for a company that was formerly a division of Avaya, that was previously a division of Lucent, that was at one time part of AT&T and all of the former AT&T folks refer colloquially to that 'globe' as 'The Death Star"

True story.

Cool that we might get the iPhone early this year, but it sucks the AT&T guys that can't take time off then.

its how all major buisness work I use to work at a theater and unless we had planned atleast 3 months ahead of time the weeks Christmas 4th of July and memorial day weeks were usually blacked out. so this is ATTs bigest time of year and they will need as many Employes as they can

AT&T must be pushing for this to come out earlier than July, if they're smart.

I'd say the iPhone really took off with the 3G, with the lower contract subsidized pricing and all. So, most buyers are still on that two year contract that expires mid-Julyish. They must surely want to hook them on another 2 year contract, using the newest iphone as the bait, and effectively cutting them off from going to another carrier/phone.

If they wait until after those contracts expire, the hordes of cell phone free agents will start to consider Android and the like more seriously, without an ETF hovering over their heads.

That's a great point. For those of us who have the iPhone 3G, any launch prior to July 11 will technically be before the expiration of our two year contracts. I'm sure ATT will be willing to give you the new contract pricing in June (if that is in fact the next iPhone release date) thereby capturing their current customers for two more years prior to the iPhone on Verizon release later in the year (if the rumors on here are to be believed).

I'm not a big Verizon or ATT fanatic; my personal experience in the greater NYC area is that my Verizon voice service was far superior to what I have experienced on ATT. Since '96 until I switched to ATT two years ago, I cannot recall a single time a call was dropped. I'm sure it must have happened but it was so infrequent that it does not stand out. On ATT, my calls are dropped everyday. So for me, I would love the opportunity to switch back to Verizon with an iPhone. But, if it doesn't come, I certainly use data more than voice, so I could live a satisfactory existence on the ATT network. The features of the iPhone outweigh my desire for reliable call quality. (Imagine saying that about a cell PHONE???)

exactly i saw this when thinking about staying on Verizon but now if i want a new phone on Verizon with out a data plan I'm basically getting a crapier phone than the phone I have now I'd rather have a new phone when I'm usually available for a upgrade

A friend of mine got a new Verizon phone. Same as you, he did not want to pay for a data plan, so he ended up getting the thickest phone I have seen in years. Fortunately for him, his old phone was really old. :) As his new one is about the same size, so he does not feel like he downgraded to renew his contract.

I can't wait to upgrade my 3G. It is on its last leg (well not really). Vibrate button malfunctions, pretty much unusable, and it is close to being completely out of space. Give me 64GB! :D

AGREE - my 3G speaker malfunctions often requiring me to blow on it to work - probably dropped so much that separation has occurred on the coil as I have tried all other repairs.

As for the space, 8GB or 16Gb would suit me just fine - my business apps take little room.

come quickly iPhone 4!

Well I just hope this thing is decent lol. I refuse to speculate with my hopes of grandeur this time. The last two times, plus with the ipad I have been let down. This time I'm doing the total opposite . . " I hope it makes clear calls " Lol, ok let's see what happens. :D

Last year focused on iPhone OS 3.0, Snow Leopard and iPhone 3GS.

OSX isn't getting update this year... so we got iPhone OS4, and iPhone (HD)... and what else???

All hypothetical, but perhaps:

  1. OS X 10.7 initial builds for Developers as an initial beta.
  2. New Xserver using OS X 10.6.4 on 12 core opterons [one can fantasize]
  3. Preliminary advances on Enterprise expansion for OS X and the embedded platform with iPhone OS 4.0 released and how it ties in with 10.6.4 changes?

Yeah, stupid Verizon for only charging $10.

They should require a $20 messaging plan like ATT does on equivalent phones.

I already have unlimited text on my family plan, so this "requirement" is irrelevant, where as a switch to Verizon would most likely have me paying for Internet service on two devices that are used by people who don't even use Internet on their phones to begin with.

Verizon is asking me to either waste my money or buy a POS phone for the sake of not having to pay for their data plan. I'll stick with AT&T for now, thanks.

I see. Hmm. If your family used email instead of texts, it'd be the same price.

I agree that the plan on all phones should be optional, smart or not. Alas, the iPhone demonstrated that people would go along with mandatory data plans, and started the whole thing.

What kind of phones do your parents use now? Do they text with you?

Apple should abandon AT&T and only offer the new iPhone with a different carrier.

Not going to happen especially with the choice deal iPad 3G with no contract for $30 unlimited data monthly! Apple guaranteed AT&T another year when AT&T gave the iPad buyers that offer for a no contract 3G deal for $30 per month.

We have to assume that a Verizon iPhone is at least as far away as January 2011. But it could be further away than that... be prepared to LOVE AT&T for another year whether it means you love your great superior speed 3G or it means you cannot make a damned phone call from your iPhone!

I suspect Verizon is begging for an iPhone for 2011 now, and Apple is already working on 2011 iPhones. Surely the 2010 iPhones for AT&T/GSM are already being produced.
