HSUPA is supposed to be only uploads. people are complaining about downloads as well

Two points:

* Download speed is going to vary with a number of factors
- distance from cell site
- interference
- number of other users downloading from the site
- etc etc

None of these factors have anything to do with the iPhone. Now, there could be some sort of issue with TCP (again, probably just a side effect) download as the acks can't get up very quickly due to the problem with HSUPA in these markets.

* A seperate thread should be used for and DOWNLOAD complaints. This thread is specifically for the HSUPA UPLOAD issue.

BOTH DOWNLOAD AND UPLOAD SPEEDS are throttled. This is a FACT.

I use to average around 4.5Mbps. Now it's consistently under 2Mbps. AT&T is a huge f/uck up.

Get a grip, man.

Also, get used to being disappointed as more people use data over cellular networks. No one's going to repeal the laws of physics for you.

The story is the same across all carriers, all technologies.

Yep, download has also been affected. It's probably just a side effect from all that nonsense going on with the upload speeds. We'll see when this all gets sorted out.

but it's not intentional or permanent. they have stated it's being worked on. getting upset and ranting about it is not going to speed up the fix

Shall i continue to leave my pant around my ankles so AT&T can rape me continuously?

If you're not upset, good for you. Move along.

Read my earlier post on how download speeds are not guaranteed, and will, due to physics, vary from time to time.

Yes, there's been a really bad upload issue. It's possible that the upload issue is actually having a side-effect of lowering download speeds as well, but overall, download speeds are just going to vary.

People need to understand that, otherwise they're gonna be really disappointed from this point out.

Switch carriers then.

Carriers with national coverage other than AT&T:
TMobile
Sprint
Verizon
Cricket

They all have smartphones, data access, and messaging.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Umm sorry. Two year contract here. <- will not pay an ETF if it's because the carrier can't provide me adequate service.

Like I said earlier, if we paid our bill late and trickled it in by trivial amounts daily they'd cut your line off in a second. Wish we could do the same.

They don't cap the download speeds. What's happening is when your upload speed is so low and disproportional with the download, your download is choking since technicaly upload is still being used during the file downloads. If your mobile device cannot send enough enformation using your upload while running a speedtest, during the download part of the test, the download can't recieve all the available data, and there is your choke point.
Previously, with the upload of 1.7mbps, you would never experience choking of download since there was enough headroom on the upstream side. Also the latency suffers for the same exact reason.

Ahh, this makes perfect sense. Glad for an explanation for the non-techies like me in the crowd. They need to fix the upload speeds asap... I want to use my new phone the way it was meant

Well att admitted to the crappy speeds, but they only said it affected 2% of customers. This was on the front page a couple days ago, but I have really bad upload/download speeds as u can see I live in staten island new York. Att said they are working on it but it's att so y should we believe them LOL. so let's wait and see

(that you live in staten island!!)

LOL JK

former bronx kid here so i need to break ballz

9 days and counting for me.... 2 weeks to go until my 30 day return date is over. Who thinks they'll have this fixed by then?

Seattle still crippled. As of July 10 2010 @8am still capped at sub 95kbps.

Again a big **** you AT&T.

Is it about time to start a formal campaign to push AT&T for some kind of credit for the lack of service? Ideas on what might be effective?

Umm... Return your phone and go use another network. Please.

I have the upload issue too (along with the accompanying slowing of dls, which several people have correctly described as a side effect of the ul issue).

While I find it frustrating, everyone's whiny and snotty attitudes almost make me root for the issue to stick around a bit longer til you all bail for droids.

Btw- ipadthai, I'm pretty sure that intentionally trying to beat the profanity filter is against forum rules. Don't bother. We all know what you're saying when we see the stars. You're not clever for working around it.

Ok. I'm done with my rant.

Its not going to change just like the design of the phone is not going to change.

Basically you have a fragile glass phone, with a poorly designed antenna system that needs a $30.00 accessory in order to make a phone call.

The device is subject to shattering the very first time you inadvertently, that's accidentally and unintentionally allow the phone to fall from your secure grasp, and thats not the death grip were talking about here, but the regulation Apple prescribed method of holding its iPhone 4.

To make matters even more hospitable, (hostile) to it's loyal customers AT&T has now crippled the device even further. Tney can do this because it expedient for business and they know very well at least right now they are the only carrier available to you. They have the worst coverage and say they have the best in all the advertising we see in addition to the fastest data services on the planet.

Sound about right? If not your blind as a bat!

I bet you keep very close guard over your lawn.

Whats this $30.00 accessory? I don't use the bump or any case on my phone and have yet dropped a call.
