were you eligible previously or did you have a December date? how did you do this? was it noted on your account by the CSR or does it now show up in *NEW#

NO. My eligibility date was 3/12/10 on Apple's website. But when I called today they said I am eligible as of tomorrow. go figure

does the $99 or more per month deal just apply to the base phone plan or do included add-ons count too? I am now on the $100/mo. family plan but only for about 6 months. Prior I was on the $79/mo. family plan but I also had $17/mo. for early nights and $30/mo. for family messaging. So, would I qualify for the $99 or more since last July? For some reason my upgrade date on the system is saying 3/2010. I purchased the 3G the day it was released last July.

but if im not allowed on my actual line im just gona use another line on my accounts upgrade and swich the sim and take off the data plan after I buy which the person who is high up in the ranks that i was "escalated" to said it was fine. and if not to call his direct number and hed take of the system.

try dialing *NEW# from your phone and see what that says (or go to MyWireless)

So my 30 minute wait call "failed" go figure... i did the *NEW# and it says:

"A full discount on a standard handset or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time, but you may qualify on 7/30/09. We can offer you an iPhone upgrade at a higher price with a 2-yr yada yada ********... "

see, i don't get why yours was July in the first place.

are you talking about me?

I just got off the phone with AT&T ( dialed 611 ) and she said that starting Tomorrow the pricing would be changed, and that's why it isn't showing up yet today ( I thought they were going to update the system June 18th? ) but I asked her to look up when I purchased the 3G, which was July 29th, 2008... so I should be eligible tomorrow for the $199 / $299... I even told her to write it in the notes about my purchase date, and my eligible upgrade date, in case Apple Store gives me a problem.

$99+ per line. Includes data and texts to get there. Like $59.99 minutes + $30 data + $10 texts. Something like that.

AT&T told me to go to an AT&T store because Apple could deny you the 199/299 price. No idea if that's true or not.

I really hope not. I'm going to have the upgrade date open in safari showing the 7/30/09 date, along with the text message I got from AT&T, and also the note the support representative put on the account stating I bought the 3G on July 29th 2008. If they STILL deny me after all that, you guys might see me on the morning news. :)

your bill was not over 99/line - how'd you get that date?

I dunno what to tell you... I mean I bought the iPhone 3G July 29th, 2008... so my upgrade time would be July 30th, 2009...regardless I purchased the 3G within the period they're going to honor the full subsidy... Here's my previous bills:

05/24/2009 $101.36
04/24/2009 $99.86
03/24/2009 $99.25
02/24/2009 $99.25
01/24/2009 $99.25
12/24/2008 $99.45
11/24/2008 $99.45
10/24/2008 $123.87
09/24/2008 $112.89
08/05/2008 $213.95
07/24/2008 $83.40
06/24/2008 $68.34
05/24/2008 $71.95
04/24/2008 $65.65
03/24/2008 $64.09
02/24/2008 $67.94

Not trying to start a flame war but I think people have a lot of clout to get so angry that they can't upgrade their phone before 1.5 years of their contracts are even honored. Reality check: AT&T is still a cell phone company with standard contracts.

Charles - but their standard contract for upgrading is this:

http://www.wirefly.com/upgrades/eligibility/att/

"Customer has had a standard calling plan plus data services costing $99 a month or more, and who has been in contract (and not upgraded) in the last 12 months."

Assuming this holds true for their other very expensive smartphones like Blackberries, etc. Then it does seem they are more hardline on the iPhone than standard. At least that's what I'm gleaning from it.

Actually I think a couple factors are involved, including your credit score, history with AT&T and how far along in the contract you are. The sense of entitlement just annoys me.

Then read the link yourself. It clearly states what their rule is. It is what it is.

It was just the last paragraph that got my attention:

Note that AT&T upgrade eligibility may be further limited based on customer’s usage history, payment record, previous phone replacement, etc. Upgrade eligibility is solely determined by AT&T Mobility at its discretion.

That leaves a lot of wiggle room for AT&T.

Yep. Lots. Perhaps that's why some are reporting being golden with paying $70, etc. But yet it's also what's upsetting to people. The confusion and seeming randomness of it.
