Just found this. I also think you can do this online? Feel like I’ve seen it somewhere.
Bought from Apple.Did you all purchase your phones through AT&T or Apple? One person I talked to seemed to think it has something to do with the fact that my phone came from Apple.
I’m still not sure what they did, if anything, but ~2hrs after I ended my chat, it started working.
I just checked swapping gout my old plan to a 5G plan (and they let you choose by phone number now). Switching all 6 phone numbers on my account (5 phones...I have 2 numbers on mine) ADDS $20 to my bill and everyone but me loses their hot spot, loses 1080p video streaming, loses HBO Max (don't care...have it through Hulu anyway).
Sticking with 4G unlimited for now. Without traveling, I really won't benefit from 5G anyway right now.
That is what we did for our 4 lines. We have a college school discount 17% discount on our account already, so it applied right away. With Auto pay and paperless, it came out to be $40 per line $160 per mo plus taxes/fees for the Unlimited Elite. It get's cheaper the more lines you have.If you sign up for auto pay and paperless billing, plus have a signature program discount (most employers, or if you dont qualify just sign up for AARP for 12 bucks) then you can get the AT&T elite plan for 35 bucks a line (for over 5 phones.) So 35*6= $210 a month plus taxes/fees. This would include HBO Max, HD video streaming, and 30GB of hotspot per line plus 100GB of overall data before potential throttling.
What are you current paying on the old plan?
Thanks! I'm using the e-sim so this isn't pertinent for me but every little hint helps.I didn’t read the entire thread, but this happened to me as well (stuck on 5ge), you need a new sim from att for 5g. Also if you swap your 5g sim back in a non 5g phone, it will no longer work have 5g if you swap back into the 5g phone. New 5g sim solved it for me, the SIM cards look different too, 5g one is white.
I'll definitely ask about this if mine doesn't show 5g in the next few days. Thanks.View attachment 972737

It’s so confusing.Im not even showing up the 5G option.
I work for the company.
I know your phone came from apple order, not at&t, so I’d say call them and have them update your IMEI Or get to Tech support.
you shouldnt have this trouble getting 5g.
Having said that though, don’t expect it to be much faster than LTE, and if you’re on the ATT starter, your speed could be slowed, but if you get on the Extra, you get 50gb of high speed before you can be slowed, 100gb if you go to the Elite plan.
It states "All Current AT&T Consumer Unlimited Wireless Plans Will Come with AT&T 5G at No Additional Cost Starting Aug. 7" which are the starter, extra and elite plans. Anyone with an older unlimited plan will not get 5G.If I had such an "Unlimited" plan, I might argue the point with them that their own information clearly says ALL Unlimited Plans: https://about.att.com/story/2020/att_5g_nationwide.html
The Starter gives you unlimited data and 5G. It is the most basic plan. You will be the first to get slowed down if highly congested or you use a lot of data. The Extra gives you up to 50gb without a slow down, the Elite gives you 100gb.I actually wanted to know about starter. It doesn’t give you any stats on what it gives you. Just says 5G access. So what excatly do you get? No gigs of LTE, just slowed data ever day?
The disclosure is that ATT ‘can’ slowdown your data when the network is busy. i would say there isn’t a hard and fast rule, it tends to happen during peak times of usage and congestion. I myself bumped up to the Elite from the starter, and my speeds went up a little on 5g after I did that. BUT, it’s really still very close to the 4g LTE speeds. I’m in west Texas and 1/2 mile from a tower. These Unlimited plans are Unlimited usage, but They can be slowed depending.I actually wanted to know about starter. No. 5G Unlimited plans include two lines, it just costs more per month than 5 or 6 lines. The more lines you have, the bigger discount you receive. What’s this BS about 5 or 6 lines. My wife and each have a line so that’s two.
So you have to have 5 Lines to get 5G? That makes no sense.

Also having this issue. Had an ESIM on iPhone 11 Pro. Decided to go back to physical so got that from AT&T today and swapped into my new iPhone 12 Pro, and activated the SIM via chat.
I’ve had unlimited elite for 3+ months now. I was told my line was provisioned for 5G. But no 5G or options showing up in the settings.
my T-Mobile sim works fine in this phone for 5G.
I spent two hours combined between chat and phone, nobody can figure out what it is. I agree with others that this is infuriating.
I’ll put it this way: like many others, I got my phone from Apple unlocked sim free today.Any chance this provisioning will happen automatically or we will have to call? What's your best guess?
Thank you! I was on the phone with them but still nothing... Hopefully, it shows up overnight itself or something.I work for the company.

I will try again and Call AT&T and have them update my IMEI number into the system again.I’ll put it this way: like many others, I got my phone from Apple unlocked sim free today.
all I did was take the sim from my 11 Pro Max and put it in my new phone.
Didnt call att. Checked my online account tonight and its showing the new IPhone.
I THINK in the case of theyayarealivin , if she is on one of the correct plans (and not all UL plans have 5g), and I think she said she is, the system may not be recognizing her IMEI yet. I’m not qualified, and I don’t know, when and/or whether that just auto provisions the code for the 5g. Which is why I suggest she calls in her IMEI.
just my 2 Cents worth
Also, This is the plan I'm under...I’ll put it this way: like many others, I got my phone from Apple unlocked sim free today.

Which is the best for you, I would surmise.
Did you do anything or was it just random???Mine finally showed up after about 3 hours.
I think my best bet is to wait LOL hopefully it shows up tomorrow morning. Thanks for tryingWhich is the best for you, I would surmise.
I Know you use a lot based on these forums!
with Elite, you’d have to reach 100gb before they could slow ya.
5g really is pretty new, and I have no doubt it will get faster in time.
