I’m wondering if my old SIM in iPhone 11 Pro is the one ATT “activated” for my new ELITE plan and not the new SIM that came with the iPhone 12 somehow

Do you have esim or prepaid? I have regular SIM, Omni option to update IMEI online - you’d think when you activate the new phone with new SIM, that the new IMEI would be activated automatically - still no 5G option today - iPhone 12 pro, NYC location, ELITE plan - any ideas ?
I have prepaid. I think updating IMEI is key. Because none of the other solutions I tried worked. If you don’t see the option online, give AT&T a call to update it then reboot the phone.

My theory: I think once the IMEI is updated, AT&T recognizes the phone as a 5G-capable device and that’s what updates the 5G settings.

I hear you, but how do you update IMEI - on a regular SIM - non prepaid and non ESIM - I don’t see a way ?

Finally got it to work after 10 hours later. Yes, you physically have to call AT&T and have them update the IMEI number along with the SIM card number. Now, it is showing. I tried all the techniques it didn’t work however after I called them and had it update my IMEI number along with the SIM it did. Good luck to all of ya’ll.

What did you exactly ask ATT on phone??

5G option is not showing. When they ask you what does it show say only 4G and LTE. Don’t bother mentioning 5Ge because they will get confused and at&t still thinks 5Ge is 5G. So, key is don’t mention 5Ge.

Tell them to update them to update the IMEI number along with SIM card number and the device.

They will fix it.

I've called twice and had the imei & sim number updated. I still don't have 5G. Today they said they said it is a known iPhone problem but they (the tech support reps) don't have a solution. I have an e-sim and am requesting a new activation code card (maybe a new physical sim if they'll give it to me). Not saying that's a solution but at least I'll have tried everything I can personally.

Maybe try to get another rep. It also depends on a rep how knowledgeable they are because the rep had to get it approved by a supervisor.

I just found out that all ATT plans don't have 5G. Upgraded my plan but same problem that others are dealing with now...5G not listed in the drop down. I'm going to chat with ATT and see what happens.

I just went through this whole thing and now I’m thoroughly confused. The 5g sim in my née 12 pro wouldn’t activate. But in data settings it showed “5g on” 5g Auto” and LTE. Just wouldn’t work at all. Took my old sim out of my 11 and put in 12 and I had cellular service however data settings only showed 4G & LTE. Took it to at&t this morning and the “tech guy” told me he would fix it no problem. He proceeded to remove my sim, then put the tray in backwards and almost broke it. and then said “I’m going to show u a trick” and did a soft reset on my phone. 😆. When it booted back up the phone showed 5Ge and he handed it to me and said “all fixed”. At that point I knew this dude was worthless. Another guy interrupted and said “he needs a 5G sim” and put one on the table. It’s white and says 5G (which was exactly the same as the original that came in the 12 that wouldn’t activate). He sets it up, I put it in my phone, and boom. I have service and the data settings say “5g on, 5g auto (which is selected by default) and LTE. I thank the guy and I leave. I get to my car and I notice that the selected 5g auto has switched to LTE. Hmmm...so I try to select 5g auto and it won’t let me select it. Then after 30seconds or so all that disappeared and it’s back to showing 4G and LTE. No 5g options at all. So I’m back to square one. So strange. I call 611 and explain the whole issue and she tells me that there are a ton of people having this same issue and it’s an Apple issue that is currently being worked on and will be fixed with a software patch soon. I have no clue if she knew what she was talking about but I’m gonna do some digging to see what I can find out. Ugh!

Mine's working now. Idk if the rep did something or if it automatically did it once I switched to a plan that had 5G. The rep did ask for my IMEI number.

I woke up this morning I have 5G in data. Just wait guys it will come on automatically I didn’t even have to call Att.

all unlimited plans will soon have 5G . Don't give up your plans !!!

E-sim users: latest from att is that they cannot send a new esim activation card to me if I request it over the phone. The reason is because of the known 5g problem with the new iphones. They don't know if the problem is on their end or with the iPhone software. They say to go into the store and have them try. I'm going to wait until att gets a handle on it. In the meantime they *are* sending me a new physical sim. So the unsolvable problem seems to be with e-sims.
