Maybe ill try and activate the other sim my iPhone 12 pro game with.

What plan do you have?

Update! I got mine to work. I went into my att and refreshed the signal to my phone, then turned it off and back on.

Resolved!

I put the SIM card, its all white, that came with the phone I ordered from ATT and I went to www.att.com/getstarted and I activated that new SIM card. Once I activated the SIM card, I turned off and on my phone and now I have the options of 5G...

Hope this helps!

so let me get this straight... if it shows 5g its not 5g and if it shows 5ge its still not 5g... got it
I *think* we are talking about two different things. This isn't about what shows up next to your signal strength indicator (and, unfortunately, 5ge showing isn't the same as 5G) rather some of us are complaining that 5G isn't even a choice for us eventhough we have a service that includes this. We go into settings and in the cellular options and all we see are LTE and 4G. 5G should also show up there...even if there is no 5g in our exact area. In my case there *is* (or should be) 5G in my area but I don't even have the option to force my phone to connect to it.

Is say one getting the 5G option on esim ?
Not for me. I have e-sim and don't have the 5G option.

as a potentially confusing aside i tried putting in my physical sim and designated it for cellular data but still didn't have a 5g option. I didn't want to explore further...I just want AT&T to fix my e-sim service.

hm so we could be getting 5g without that feature?

For those that are confused on the 5g icons:

5g = Your carrier's 5G network is available, and your iPhone can connect to the Internet over that network.2 Not available in all areas.

5G+ = our carrier’s higher frequency version of 5G is available, or your iPhone has an active connection over that network. Not available in all areas.

5G uw = Your carrier’s higher frequency version of 5G is available, or your iPhone has an active connection over that network.

5Ge = LTE + so it has nothing to do with the 5g as seen on the iPhone 12. This has been available for some time and showed up on my 11. Its just ATT marketing speak for faster 4g.

Well that seems unlikely since one would think seeing 5g as an option in the settings cellular data area would be a necessary option in order to get "real" 5g. That said, things are not clear at this point. I'll go out on a limb and say that if you see 5ge next to your cellular signal but cannot select 5g in the cellular options then, no, not only are you not getting 5g but you don't have the ability to connect to a real AT&T 5g network.

I’ve been on and off the phone with customer support for hours. My plan supports 5G but I don’t have the option.

On reddit, I’ve seen a few people say to call customer support and they will provision your line for 5G. After a restart it worked.

The reps keep telling me I don’t have 5G here (even though the map says I do) so that’s why the option isn’t showing up. This is frustrating.

Are you guys still seeing 5Ge? Or is it saying 5G? In network indicator?

It has Says 5G when you actually have it. But.... the speed increase no one will ever know. But you will notice the 2 hours of battery it takes away from you a day and that’s being on 5G all day long. Just imagine it constantly switching back and forth, looking for a signal then not. Oh man, so many people are going to be mad. 5G will have no big benefit to anyone not in a big city or stadium.
