Yes there was and it appears you missed it. If you got to the PIN and Installment agreement then you missed the trade-in step.

No you are supposed to return it through Apple. If you go to an AT&T Corporate store and not a Affiliate store (local licensee) they can help you fix this error.

ETA: add screenshot of the Trade-in Button on Apple.com...

I am talking about att retail trade in (buying phone from Apple with 36 month att installment)

I know how to trade in Apple retail trade in ($650 for my iPhone 15 pro max)

But I’m trading in the wife iPhone 13 Pro Max. For $1000 att trade in credit

I do too, and I ordered right as ATT opened up online at 7:40ish. I assume the 1tb versions are behind, or do you guys think that will deliver on the 20th?
Yes. This happens every year with AT&T.

You’ll often see little to no movement on FedEx tracking and then Bam! your iPhone ships and arrives.

I’ve never had an AT&T order that said “delivers by “‘available on’ date” not make it on time.

Does anyone else have a Shipping date for Sept 19th?
Yes that is when AT&T will ship UPS Overnight for delivery on Friday, September 20th from and AT&T Distribution Center(s). The bulk orders will ship from China to AT&T Sunday - Thursday and AT&T will break down the bulk stacks and scan in, sort, generate a Shipping label for your selected devices and box your items. Finally there is a Scan to associate it with your account line for upgrades.

I think it will deliver the 20th still. When I look online in the store it still says expected delivery the 20th for my model
Correct.

If you purchased from Apple even if you signed up for a Carrier installment you will receive a return kit from Apple if you included your wife's iPhone 13 Pro Max. That's how you get the AT&T credits over 36 months. You indicated that you missed that step on Apple.com so you are not setup for the $1000 Carrier Trade-in plan with the monthly Credits.

You posted that you missed that step on Apple.com so you are at the mercy of your near by AT&T Corporate Retail location. Your new 36 month installment will not qualify for device credits. The AT&T Corporate location will need to perform a couple of extra steps. Normally they will only take the Trade-in if you ordered through AT&T.

ETA: bold last sentence.

I can't seem to check out, i'm all the way in cart but "check out" is greyed out.
I had the same issue. I had to empty the cart and do the order over again. So, "pre-ordering" was just a waste of time. Oddly enough though - the price change. I'm upgrading and was originally quoted $33/month (16 Pro Max w/ 512GB) and after emptying the cart and selecting the same phone, it was only $25/month. I don't know what I'm missing, but it is what it is.

Correct.

So AT&T breaks down its own iPhone Shipments? Is it the same for each carrier? For Best Buy? I was starting to think Apple fulfills all these and changes the return label and inserts as needed. Maybe the fact that the tracking shows straight from Shenzen, China, made me think this. OTOH, some folks say Best Buy has struggled with fulfillment, though Best Buy has been very good in my experience.

So maybe there are enormous Apple dedicated fulfillment centers, or is everything a direct shipment from China?

Admittedly the Apple website is a little confusing because you need to select Apple Trade In even if you intend to trade the phone into AT&T (via Apple). Also the text on the webpage next to Apple Trade In does not reference the AT&T credits (just up to $650).

I can see how people can easily miss this step.

I canceled the original 8am order. I was in such a rush last night putting it my pre order I missed that step with the installment credits over 36 months. Because I got confused with trade in option. (It said Apple trade in which I didn’t want , I wanted att trade in). So that was the confusion. And I went ahead with no trade in and just installment which was the wrong move.

My other full price phone order was straight forward with an real Apple trade in (I usually just take the phone to the Apple Store directly) and they will credit me on my full price purchase (it’s cheaper my way yearly cause I don’t need Apple care plus with the annual upgrade program)

So AT&T breaks down its own iPhone Shipments? Is it the same for each carrier?
Yes AT&T and all the Carriers get bulk shipments directly from China. Each Carrier is able to provide Apple with their Inventory requests. Apple allocates manufactured factory inventory to each Carrier. And remember they are still building iPhones today.

Yes and even Best Buy, Target, Costco and any other retail source.

The tracking from China will only show for Apple Fulfillment direct to you devices.

For example: If you order directly from Apple and chose a Carrier It will be labeled for delivery to you and as it is scanned out in China from Apple and the next matching iPhone configuration that is processed. When it is "Scanned" this is associates it to your phone number and carrier as your ordered configuration.

If you order directly from a Carrier they fulfill your order from bulk shipments from Apple (actually the contract assembly point) for the US it is assembled in Shenzen, China. These bulk orders are sent directly to the Carrier's Distribution Center(s). Your shipping information would come from the Carrier as soon as they print a label for your delivery. They usually start on Wednesday or Thursday for Standard Delivery on Friday.

So maybe there are enormous Apple dedicated fulfillment centers, or is everything a direct shipment from China?
Everything comes from China. However some units may already have shipped to an Apple Distribution Center here in the states.

I have purchased several cases so far for my two 16 pro max iPhones that I ordered this morning. One thing I noticed when holding the case in my left hand, my ring finger rests exactly where the new camera button will be. I’m thinking many of us, myself included, are going to be activating the camera often by mistake. I haven’t seen the new iPhone in person, nor do I know how firmly I will have to press the button to activate the camera, but this was an observation I made.. Thoughts?

Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering how this process works.

You don't even have the phone yet and you're already Holding it Wrong™

But seriously, isn't the button somewhat pressure sensitive? My guess is that it will take something more deliberate than resting your finger there.

Probably.. but holding the case is the same as holding the iPhone. My finger just lands there. I’m sure the apple engineers and design team already thought of that. Some people have held the new iPhone. Maybe they will respond

Ok, the BIG question:

Are ATT ship dates reliable?
Yes the ship dates are reliable for 99% of the orders. Just a reminder AT&T needs to receive their bulk orders from Apple directly from China on schedule.

The Launch day orders should leave AT&T on Thursday, Sept. 19th for overnight delivery on Friday, Sept. 20th. A very small percentage may be delayed until Saturday or even Monday if UPS / FedEx has any issues with plane or truck delays.

Stuff does happen that may delay a very small percentage of orders. When ordering at an AT&T Retail location it really depends on how fast they enter your order into the system. Is your order setup for direct delivery to your address?

And my palm rests there when the case is in my right hand. Interesting.

The button is somewhat “protected“ by the case.

We’ll see on the 20th, haha!!

Has anyone cancelled and reordered successfully? I cancelled around 2pm PST and still unable to 'upgrade' using that line that has the upgrade.

I originally ordered at 5am PST and then decided to go through Costco for their promotion so I cancelled original order in hopes of reordering.

Pre ordered my 16 Pro about two hours ago (830 pm eastern time) yes i know I was late to the party but my receive by date was October 11th 😬. Not gonna panic yet though my girlfriends 15 pro last year was ordered 2 days after pre order day and came release day🤞 cheers to everyone on my receive day day and strap in we have a rough couple days ahead of us 😂!
