I feel your pain. I'm having the same issue. I was waiting for the white though, so I didn't order until Friday morning when I finally gave up.
Fastest way to get one is to preorder a black 32 gb through at&t, they come faster than the 16's.

10 business days for it to be off backorder. I ordered 7/13 and its still on backorder, 7/12's were off backorder today I think
Dear Lord, man. I was so excited when I placed my order yesterday, 7/23, until I visited this thread. Some of you 7/12 and 7/13 guys and gals didn't start getting shipment notifications until now?!?
Looks like I might not get my 16GB until well into August.

Hopefully once everyone on Apples Priority List gets an iPhone they will divert the majority of the shipments to ATT.
Yeah, I certainly hope so. The guy on the phone at AT&T Order Support indicated that it may be within 7 days that I get a shipment notification - that may just be him giving out hope...but who knows? They ARE launching internationally this week, so let's see if they can make some more phones!
The weird thing is, I tried buying it from Apple Online Store first, but it said my order couldn't be processed at this time. Whatever...whomever I get it from, I'm looking forward to owning an iPhone 4 and becoming an AT&T customer.
anyone in socal know how long it takes to get IP4 from att online?
the reason is I'm moving out of state in 2 weeks (driving) and I was hoping I could get it beforehand so I could use the GPS from iphone. Do you think I can get it within 2 weeks or should I just wait until I move?

I'm in SoCal (not that it should make any difference). AT&T online says 7-14 business days. I have no idea how accurate that is though.
I ordered today (Saturday, July 24th) with AT&T Customer Service and haven't gotten an email yet regarding my order (and its been about 10-12 hours). The rep told me that it would take 7-14 days to get the phone, though.
We'll see, I guess.
Ordered mine 7/15 today marks the 10th day since my order and it's still on backorder.
I'm not to worried though I ordered the 16 gb black so I figured it would take a while...hoping to get it by next friday though.

I also ordered july 15 too and still backorder.. hi can i ask you something.. did you get a ATT terms and condition by email after you ordered? and did you get a order confirmation after you accept the att terms and condition by email? .. cause i only got the att terms condition email...

i also ordered on the 15th, i got both the confirmation and the terms condition.. when i called the att rep said they dont count sat and sun as a buisness day, so 10 days from the 15th will be the 29th... this sucks! but its worth it

Hopefully someone reading this thread will know the answer to this: When does AT&T charge sales tax for the iPhone? My card was only charged the $299, no sales tax. When I ordered another iPhone from Apple, my card was charged $360. Will it show up on my first bill or something?
Weird. My authorization charge includes the tax, but I haven't been actually charged as it hasn't shipped for me yet. I know that my upgrade charge will be on my next bill. Has your phone shipped yet? (BTW I'm in Virginia. Maybe it depends on what state you live in.)
Yeah, I've had my phone for about 2 weeks now. I'm new to AT&T and I'm in CA. Very weird! But I'll be happy if they somehow forgot to charge me sales tax! It'll probably show up eventually, I just thought it was strange it didn't get charged initially.
