It should be based on when you placed your order.....not when you signed Terms and Conditions. When I log in to "ORder Status" on att.com, it says Date Ordered: 10/11/2011 , QTY Backordered: 1.....

The rep said to disregard that, and that they are basing it when I actually placed the order which is 10/7.

Hopefully she is right, although I am still very worried that the incompetent CR reps are just trying to ease my worries with these blank promises

I can corraborate this as it was the info I was given yesterday.

Well there's been a change. Like many, I ordered online at 7:25 AM Eastern last Friday. Didn't get the processed email until Monday.

Until a few minutes ago, it said backordered, with a quantity 1 in the backorder column. Now there is a 0 in the backorder column and it says "processing."

The original email of course said I would get it on the 14th. Yesterday I got two different answers from AT&T: that it was 3-4 weeks out and that it would ship on the 14th.

We'll see. But at least there's a change.
 
My phone went from Dallas/Ft. Worth to Louisville, KY overnight. Arrived at 8:49 cst this morning. Getting closer to Illinois...

So has it been confirmed that we are going to have to sign with UPS? Can't tell by looking at the tracking info. Doubt they will deliver on Saturday if we miss the truck.
 
I preordered my 4S at an AT&T store on the morning of the 7th and it shipped a few days ago. However, the tracking number (from FedEx) that I was given doesn't work. Anyone having this problem?

I also ordered an 8GB 4 back on the 5th; as of this morning, it's being prepared for shipment. So, I take it I won't be getting it tomorrow (despite being told that when I initially ordered it)?
 
My lord, people, it's a phone. One they had twice the number of pre-orders for over the previous launch. Would I be a little peeved if mine wasn't coming tomorrow? Yeah, I'd be bummed, but I wouldn't be irate, and I wouldn't be threatening that AT&T will 'rue the day.' I mean, come on, it's a phone. I understand some people are on older devices, but it's especially funny when someone is coming from an iPhone 4. Do I want my phone tomorrow? Heck yes. But I wouldn't be throwing a temper tantrum and freaking out if I had to wait a week or two.

Right. ^^ This should be a sticky post but I'm sure the mods realize the thread has been officially overrun by narcissistic anarchists, sort of like what AT&T's data minders are experiencing as well.

Everyone is pretty much in transmit-only mode, and the FedEx guy could be standing in your kitchen trying to hand you the phone while you type one more post into this thread about how you have posted to this thread so many times but no one has told you what you want to read which is that the fedex guy is in your kitchen and that's what you want to read and so you're going to post until the fedex guy shows up in your kitchen.

Well he was in your kitchen a few minutes ago but you were busy, I guess, so he stuck a delivery attempt notice on your Keurig and split for the place down the road. I be waitin' for him!! :D
 
I was told by an ATT Supervisor that because of a glitch, thousands of "re-acceptence" e-mails were turned away and without the acceptence e-mail, the system would cancel the order and return any funds if collected, and the reserved phones would simply go to the next folks in line. Hope this clears up some of this mystery that att has bestowed on us all.





Wrong, don't worry banks only let holds stay a few days, you will be charged again soon after shipping, thats what happened to me with the 3gs.

This is what the Supervisor told me on Monday, and it worked exactly as she said it would, the funds would stay "pending" on all debit card purchases until the phone actually ships.

woke up this morning to check fedex website thinking it would finally be there, and nope. tracking # still doesn't work
 
Mine is shipping via UPS. Their website states you can have it held at the facility for pickup. Since I have to work, I'm tempted to do this, but I'm afraid they'll hold it in Texas or it'll get messed up some other way. Is anyone else going to request UPS hold it since they will be at work Friday?
I've printed a note for "Awesome UPS Driver" to leave package at the local UPS Store, about a 3 minute drive away, if I do not answer. I also requested for him to call my cell in case I did not hear the doorbell.

I've done this for numerous packages and they've been great in calling first, then leaving at the UPS Store.

Then how do you explain that I have no charges on my credit card anymore yet my phone is in Memphis in the middle of the delivery process?
 
Based on my personal experience and what I have seen in this thread I think that AT&T's order system needs an overhaul. The issues as I see it are:

  1. Through past experience of bad phone/data/customer service AT&T customers generally view the company as incompetent and assume the worst when dealing with them
  2. AT&T's ordering/order tracking systems are probably ok for every other phone that nobody cares about but are completely inatequate for an iPhone launch. There are multiple ways I can track the status of my order (over the phone, by logging into their site, specific order status link, etc) and each method returns slightly different results. Some say backordered, some say in progress, etc
  3. Phones seem to be getting tracking numbers/shipped at random times without respect to when they were ordered. My order was for two phones, right now one of them has tracking and one still lists as in process. Combine that with this thread where people who ordered first thing on Friday are seeing people who ordered later in the day or even on Saturday get tracking info while their phone is still backordered/in processing
  4. Some people are getting ToC and shipment emails from AT&T and some people are not
  5. The issues above have resulted in hundreds or thousands of calls to AT&T reps. People then get a variety of bad information from clueless reps and post it in this thread as fact. This confuses things even further

I think in the end almost everyone who ordered early on Friday will get their phone on the 14th. There will always be exceptions due to glitches/errors in their system but I think those will be relatively few. In the end we will all remember this process as a fiasco even though we got our phones because of the poor quality of AT&Ts order tracking system. Hopefully this kicks off an IT project there before the iPhone 5 launch next year.
 
UPS Delivery Questions

guess next question is could be possible to pick it up after the truck come back on Friday night. They have re-pack the truck that night for delivery on Saturday.

There is no delivery on Saturdays. I just spoke with a supervisor and she said AT&T specifically said that NONE of the iphones are to be held regardless of delivery attempts. They told UPS that there will be three delivery attempts and if those fail, it will be returned. There are no holds at all nor any pickups. You may find a driver willing to bend the rule, but the official stance is it HAS to be delivered to your house.

i ordered through premerie, and thats who told me that it was processed on 10/12. i told her so why all the miss info she said she doesn't know thats just how there system works, i told her how come other reps have told me different how come you magically were able to find this info, she said she doesn't know that either, so now I'm on hold trying to speak to a supervisor,

Posts here say that you will have to sign with UPS. You can't leave a signed paper asking them to leave it and you can't request to pick it up at the facility until they have tried to deliver it once. I just checked the UPS website for the Customer Center near me, and it's closed on Saturdays. :mad:

I've spoken to two supervisors now at UPS and I can all but guarantee that they will not hold or redirect your package (unless you personally know the driver who might make an exception to AT&T's stipulation). She said not even AT&T can call and make a change to a delivery, at their request.

Ordered mine on 10/7, received confirmation at 8:06am, for 3 days never showed in system. Called AT&T on Monday, 10/10 and found there was a problem finding my order. Received another confirmation on 10/10/2011 at 8:00pm showing order received/processed 10/10/2011. Up until just a few minutes ago all status systems were showing backordered. Now no longer backordered but processing. Looks like there is a chance that all of us that this happened to will receive a shipping confirmation soon!!!

Dude I have no idea why you do not know the difference between a bank debit card, and a credit card, but I have posted at least twice that this pertains to online banking checking accounts/debit cards.

No worries I'm telling you the same exact thing happened to me 2 years ago when I ordered the 3gs, I thought I had gotten it free until the charge appeared a day AFTER I received the phone.
 
After trying for 25 minutes on apples website, I went to ATT's which loaded up just fine and completed my order for my 64gb White and received my order confirmation at 4:53 am est. My order status says date ordered 10/07/2011, status In Progress, back order 1 tracking number pending shipment. I received my 2nd email on monday 10-10-2011 saying my order was processed. The hold on my funds had been sitting for the week but dropped off (pretty sure this is normal because it'll withdraw once its shipped)

Nothing has changed since then, still back ordered awaiting tracking number.

So it'll ship if it ships, my question being, is it date processed that's hosing me? I could have waited the 3 hours to place an order with a human if that was the case.

Either way, it'll get here when it gets here and next time order through apple regardless if it takes 4 hours for them to get their crap together.

Here is how bad they have screwed it up.

Edit: I ordered Friday morning the 7th at 10:00 am central at AT&T store.
I never got a Terms of Agreement email.
And I should have my phone within an hour.! Woot!

How did you find out your UPS tracking number? Was that sent to you separately? So in your case it still shows backordered on the order status page, but you got a UPS email giving you a tracking number?
