yeah, really. It's going to be annoying if they don't deliver it by Friday and there's iPhones sitting in the AT&T store at the bottom of the hill. Normally, it wouldn't be that big of a deal but I'm without a phone because my iPhone 3GS died the day they announced the iPhone4S.
I get the same thing for my aunt. maybe it caused by not accepting the T&C in time.

seriously, im so mad. Most likely there is something wrong with all orders that say qty backordered like last year. Watch it deliver tomorrow anyways
Seriously? You are getting yours by the end of the day on the 14th, exactly when you are supposed to get it, and you are complaining? Did you expect to get it a day early or something? There are people on here who preordered and won't see their phone for weeks and you are whining about this?

I'm still backordered as well. AT&T can't tell me why or when it will ship. I would be absolutely amazed if I get the phone tomorrow or even Monday. Looks like if you ordered in-store, then you were automatically placed in the second batch of shipments.
I have the same problem with my AT&T account. If i go to wireless.att.com/order_status/ and search for it that way then it comes up for me
I wonder how they determine the carrier to use? Does it depend on where the unit comes from?

Im starting to think so. Actually, the rep who helped me in the store said it would be 14-21 days. I didnt believe him because, at the time, Apple AND AT&T's websites both said Delivery by the 14th so I didn't understand why it would be delayed from the store. This was at 10:30am on the 7th.

The 4s I ordered for my wife, is a day early, just like last year. Checked FedEx just minutes ago and the phone is on the truck for delivery before 10am today.
I will never ever order from anyone but AT&T. This is the fourth year in a row that I have receieved it early and before 10am, since they use FedEx overnight.
She's at work, I will sign for it and run it over to her. She has her MBP complete with 10.7.2 that I installed, so it's a matter of a few minutes and she will be all set and have the first iPhone 4S in her company.
This is a carbon copy of the experience last year when my iPhone 4 from AT&T arrived a day earlier than the stores had them. You simply cannot beat that.
Between the constant email updates every step of the way, the fact that I didn't have to do any calling or follow up is a real pleasure.
I simply ordered it and AT&T provided world class service. Every day for the first four I got an email from them with updated info.
No wonder they do such a good business. Apple was very smart for selecting AT&T to represent them. There is no better carrier.

Still back ordered
My Friday 12:30 PM in AT&T store order that was then confirmed at 3PM via email is still in back order status, no change. 64 GB black. Sigh. Hoping AT&T hasn't drop the ball here. Not much to do. I'll wait it out and se if it magically shows up tomorrow in spite of the status on their website.

Maybe they don't show you the tracking number for that very reason. Perhaps it gets shipped to a main branch, then per the orders goes to satellite stores.
Wow, what a perfect little fairy tale. You are DEFINITELY in the minority. Myself - I will NEVER be ordering from AT&T again. It is absolute hell.

For those who order over the phone and got their T&C late.
I placed my order around 10am PST on Friday, 10/7 over the phone. I didn't receive my Terms and Conditions till Saturday afternoon. When I checked the status on my order a couple days ago it say Date Ordered: 10/10. Currently the status on my order is "In Progress" "Pending Shipment" with "0" "Back ordered." When I checked my bank account this morning, they charges went through, which hopefully means that my order has been shipped!
Hopefully this helps for the people who ordered through the phone and had issues with their Term and Conditions / Order Processing.

Well. I'm still in back-order for the older version.... I ordered the free 3gS online on the 9th and was told in the store 30 mins ago that I won't be getting my phone until everyone who has ordered the 4S between the 7th and the 14th gets theirs. This includes all of the phone orders, online orders, and in-store orders combined. She said it was because they put all of the other apple orders on hold for the mass demand of IPhone 4S's that needed to be shipped. Cheer up. I'm in the worst shape on the thread... I believe this anyway.
