I knew it!

Thanks for calling Sheldon. That is so wrong. That policy should have been told up front. Everyone who in store ordered should try to stop by the store tomorrow to give them an earful while they try to sell "our" allotment to the walk in crowd. Screw AT&T. Screw these unscrupulous managers and staff that knew this and didn't tell us the truth when we pre-ordered. This is my last AT&T phone. I can't cancel because i don't have time to stand in line and canceling wil set me back further. And we have another 8 months on our other iphone anyway. So they won this round, but my money is going elsewhere when these two contracts are up. Nice job losing a customer AT&T!

I have been trying to tell peeps that the orders do NOT get processed until after att receives their reply to the TC e-mail -
When I placed my order over the phone, the sweet lady said (I'm paraphrasing), "If you don't agree to the terms and conditions, your order won't be complete. I'll wait for you to agree to them."

So, since it was close to 3 am, I agreed to them and now my Saturday order is only 130 miles away in Orlando.

Lucky! I do remember signing the pad in store, so I wasn't surprised that I didn't get a second e-mail. I just think it's really crappy if the majority of orders placed in store got put on back order immediately (obviously, you are an exception to this! :) ) I am new to iPhone and AT&T and was looking forward to having a new phone tomorrow!

Same here, we opend up our account on the 6th and ATT has been great. They set me up with a nice loner phone and have everything set for my iphone to arrive tomorrow morning. Mine shipped via Fedex Tuesday night but was held at the local distributing center until tomorrow for delivery, could have got it today if they didnt hold it.

It'll be interesting to come back tomorrow evening to see who didn't get their phones. I'm willing to bet phone orders and in-store orders will be a majority of them.

I'd suggest just going in and talking directly to them if it's not too far from you.

UPS website MyUPS states that in order to pick up from a local UPS location, you would have had to let the sender know in advance. You must now wait for a 1st attempt to be made at this point.

How do I contact UPS so they'll hold my package to pick up tomorrow? Their 1800 number doesn't give me any options like this.
Sorry but you can't

If you're the receiver... Track with your UPS InfoNotice® Number (found above the barcode) and choose from up to four delivery change options:

Return to Sender
Deliver to a New Address
Reschedule Delivery
Hold for Customer Pickup

Note: Prior to the first delivery attempt, contact the sender to request a change in delivery instructions or to correct your delivery address.

Who ever was told that in store orders were immediately put on backorder and will not get the phone for 2-3 weeks was lied to. My situation is proof that this is not the case.

To those with tracking numbers: Is your cell number (or order number, or anything recognizable) listed as one of the associated reference numbers?

i was pretty much told that orders are based on when TC was completed, in order for the entire order to complete. in this case, those who ordered over the phone, even early Friday, will not get their phone tomorrow. sucks for those including myself.

I know I have been quite the pessimist so far, but, about an hour ago, my back order column changed to 0 for everything. It is still pending shipment, and I am still planning to wait in line and sign up under my wife's name and cancel the original, but I'd say this is a good sign.

They won't. It'll stay on the truck for 3 delivery attempts, then go back to Apple -

They will not hold it for pickup even after the first attempt. They will ONLY deliver it to the address with a live signature. Pickups will not be honored on AT&T phone shipping via UPS.

i finally got a departure scan for my order...on its way to california

DFW Airport, TX, United States 10/13/2011 3:41 P.M. Departure Scan

Because it's not true! Don't listen to anybody at AT&T. I ordered in store and I will have my phone tomorrow morning.

I didn't say it was true, I just said that's what was relayed to me

I knew many other people had received tracking info for in-store pre-orders so I chalked it up as another clueless CSR lol

The summary of this entire thread is: It doesn't matter when, where, or what you ordered from AT&T...you were not 100% guaranteed of getting your phone tomorrow. It seems like AT&T just drew pre-orders out of a hat lol

I placed my order by phone and it's now on a UPS flight from DFW to California. I don't know if I'll have time to visit this site, as I will be trying to activate my phone along with 1 million other 4 recipients! :D:D:D

Fedex if you have a note on the door theyll leave it UPS though, that sucks and i doubt they dont hold it . Just saying .

awesome, glad to hear! hopefully the rest of us get some good news too!

unfortunately, there is nothing for me to check since online statuses don't work for my over the phone order

Yes, but.....

For some reason I do not necessarly believe this... I ordered in store on the 7th @ 930a est. Everything went through ok for me, I signed my contract (brand new) in the store and have received all the emails everyone else received who ordered online. Fedex tracking expected delivery tomorrow before 1100a. Excited for mine, but sorry for everyone else who missed out

My suspicion is that you are at the discretion of the store policy and manager. If they decide to release some of their allotment to pre-order people they can. I am pretty sure the store in Westfield NJ where I went is keeping all their allotment for walk in sales. Which is why I'm screwed. They were very explicit that it would be 2 to 3 weeks when I ordered. Now I realize why. Let's start naming the stores we went to. Perhaps we can see a pattern develop if there were enough people on here??
