I had a package delivery attempt today, but missed it because I was at work. The notice stated the package was being held because "A. [My] written authorization is required to leave package(s)." The reason written authorization is required is that a few packages were delivered in the past, but someone stole them and now I have to be present or pick up at the service center. No UPS packages will be left at my door.

I went online to make alternate arrangements for the Amazon package. When my local service center called, I provided my iPhone tracking number and asked what will happen when delivery is attempted and I am at work. The lady looked up my tracking number and address and said, "You will have to come to the service center or meet the driver at the UPS Store just like you are today."

The extreme exception to the rule. I am sure the vast amount of people here have not filed a missing package claim or are in the situation you are in. However if you know the driver personally or know someone in the center, you are probably fine.
 
ordered via website, still no tracking info :(

been lurking for a few days, finally decided to make an account and post out of frustration.

I preordered my 4s at 8:15am CST on the 7th over the ATT Premiere website and I still have a 1 in the backordered column on the website. this is ridiculous, some people have had tracking numbers for two days now and I have yet to receive any changes in status since I preordered. I know those that ordered via phone still haven't gotten any status, but I haven't read any more posts that have preordered over the website and still not gotten tracking information. I'm starting to lose hope. plus if it does come tomorrow, I need to have the paper to sign and leave outside, which I can't get without tracking information. what do I do? thanks

Quick question: I live at a university, and packages are left at the front desk of my dorm. Do I have to pre-sign for delivery (since I obviously won't be at the desk when it comes), or is whoever is working the desk good enough to sign for the package?

Changed Order Date?

I'm about to lose it with ATT...ordered at 6am on the 7th via Premier website. Got a confirmation email at 6:45am. Everything was fine. Got an email yesterday saying I'd have it on the 14th. I checked it earlier and said backordered. So I called over and after 2 hours (not even kidding) someone said that I ordered on the 8th. I explained I had an email confirmation on the 7th but they dont care. I finally talked to someone who "guaranteed" that I'd have it by tomorrow.

Still no shipment so I called back. Got hung up on twice when I asked for a supervisor. Now have been sitting on hold for 20 minutes to speak to anyone (not even a supervisor).

Has anyone had their order date changed by ATT? I have no idea how this could have happened.

Might depend on the driver's discretion. Suggest you write a note with the tracking number asking that it be left with the person at the desk and put your signature on the note.
 
stopped by the AT&T store since chat/phone won't tell me anything, I ordered there at 12pm on 10/7, the guy basically told me he has no idea/no way to check if it has shipped/will ship this week. He said it could come 10/4 or early next week but he has no idea. AT&T is so helpful.
 
Man, ordered my 4am est on Friday and got email of credit card issue that morning. Called and got it worked out. Got email next day saying it was processed. My status was in progress and back order and pending shipment until late afternoon today. Back order went to zero. Just minutes ago got shipping info. Yay! :D I was worried and sadden that i didn't get the phone sooner!
 
Like I said, hundreds of thousands of people. Also please don't compare anybody to Apple. Apple is the best when it comes to customer service.

I wasn't contesting your use of the phrase "hundreds of thousands," just saying their volume was a drop in the bucket compared to Apple. And why shouldn't we compare them to Apple when that's the alternative to ordering from AT&T? People said they won't order from AT&T again, and I second that.

Put it this way: I'd rather be backordered with Apple right now than pre-ordered with AT&T. I'll remember that next time and stick to my guns instead of going with the first website that accepts my order.

Ask UPS to write "Stool Sample" on the outside of the box, just in case.
 
I don't think AT&T screws you over for your 2 year contract. When they had that outage a few weeks ago, I got a $50 credit on my bill, and just yesterday I forgot about the upgrade fee for my 4 when checking my October 26th payment. SO I called and complained that my bill was a little high, and they gave me another $45 credit. I have enjoyed their service since 2003, and while I use my iPhone for a lot more than just talking on the phone, dropped calls happen on a carriers, and are not all that frequent here in L.A. with all of the towers!

My order had a strange error and it didn't go through until after I called them on the 10th, so the pages say date ordered on the 10th. It shipped on the 11th though.

If I were an ATT rep, not only would I guarantee you tomorrow, I would say that "after looking at your order number, you should have it by 9am"

What a hero I'd be, people would LOVE me and talk about how great I am - :)

Apparently it's on backorder. :( Well, I thought it was going to come out on the 16th anyways.:eek:
 
My email says the same thing, but still on backordered status.... also ordered on 10/7 before 3:30 EST....
Mine says, and I copy-paste-quote:

You left out the part of the email where there was an asterisk next to "Your order is expected to be delivered on 10/14/11*."

Which then, if you follow it down the email to: "*All orders are processed on a first come, first served basis. Your shipment may be subject to delays for reasons that include, but are not limited to, product availability, inventory, credit issues, and completion of other required AT&T business processes. Items in your cart will be held until all items in your order can be sent in one shipment. Next day or Saturday delivery not available in all areas. Sunday delivery not available."
