UPS just told me AT&T is not letting people put the packages on hold. Rather, I will have to wait until the first delivery attempt to do so. Looks like I won't be getting my 4S until Sunday unless they come before 10:30, which won't happen I am sure.

I didn't say it was true, I just said that's what was relayed to me

I knew many other people had received tracking info for in-store pre-orders so I chalked it up as another clueless CSR lol

The summary of this entire thread is: It doesn't matter when, where, or what you ordered from AT&T...you were not 100% guaranteed of getting your phone tomorrow. It seems like AT&T just drew pre-orders out of a hat lol

I just think that it's funny when people say "I will never order from AT&T again!!! I hate them!" because I believe AT&T is doing the best they can as far as getting out orders. Their communications with CSR's could be better but as far as pumping out orders they are doing a good job. It is nearly impossible to make hundreds of thousands of people happy.

They will not hold it for pickup even after the first attempt. They will ONLY deliver it to the address with a live signature. Pickups will not be honored on AT&T phone shipping via UPS.

Huh? Every UPS driver will attempt to deliver and then take the truck back to a hub after the day is done. Any package on his truck can be picked up between the time he comes back to the hub and the time the hub closes. I pick up signarture packages a couple of times a month this way as I am never home when they come. I live in Chicago.

that sucks, did you ask if you could presign? I hate UPS so gald i have fedex.

To those with tracking numbers: Is your cell number (or order number, or anything recognizable) listed as one of the associated reference numbers?

No - mine is coming via FedEx, and it does not have a reference number that corresponds to any of those AFAIK.

They only had 200k phones to handle. Apple is handling at least 5x that volume (probably more) with little problem and with informative and knowledgeable CSRs, as usual.

Sunday? None of the UPS hubs are open to customers around here on Saturdays or Sundays. UPS also told me that under no circumstances would a UPS center give out a package, that is had to deliver to the house. I was told by two separate UPS supervisors on the phone. I was pressing hard since no one will EVER be at my house during a normal working day.

Same here, we opend up our account on the 6th and ATT has been great. They set me up with a nice loner phone and have everything set for my iphone to arrive tomorrow morning. Mine shipped via Fedex Tuesday night but was held at the local distributing center until tomorrow for delivery, could have got it today if they didnt hold it.

Now that you are "in", expect to get jerked around for the next 2 years - ;)

Wow! Nice to know the system worked for someone! The only reason I even ordered through ATT is because I get a discount with them through work and wanted to get all of those benefits. Otherwise I would have just ordered through Apple like I wanted to. Not the end of the world, just frustrating.

PM me your addy, and I will come over and wait for your delivery :D

My suspicion is that you are at the discretion of the store policy and manager. If they decide to release some of their allotment to pre-order people they can. I am pretty sure the store in Westfield NJ where I went is keeping all their allotment for walk in sales. Which is why I'm screwed. They were very explicit that it would be 2 to 3 weeks when I ordered. Now I realize why. Let's start naming the stores we went to. Perhaps we can see a pattern develop if there were enough people on here??

Hmm... They gave me the same 2-3 weeks story because the rep said he had to. He finished my promising that I would have it Friday (tomorrow) because they had not yet received notification that they phones are sold out. I had a really low order number (but that is dependent on the store/region) I believe. My local store is Holland, MI. Fedex is holding my iphone until tm @ the Wyoming office.

...unless your address is one where all UPS deliveries require signature.

I had a package delivery attempt today, but missed it because I was at work. The notice stated the package was being held because "A. [My] written authorization is required to leave package(s)." The reason written authorization is required is that a few packages were delivered in the past, but someone stole them and now I have to be present or pick up at the service center. No UPS packages will be left at my door.

I went online to make alternate arrangements for the Amazon package. When my local service center called, I provided my iPhone tracking number and asked what will happen when delivery is attempted and I am at work. The lady looked up my tracking number and address and said, "You will have to come to the service center or meet the driver at the UPS Store just like you are today."

Wow same situation, state employee discounts help a lot. The ATT rep helped a lot and set everything up for me.

Like I said, hundreds of thousands of people. Also please don't compare anybody to Apple. Apple is the best when it comes to customer service.

There Is Still Hope

Hi all,

First time posting but I've been following this thread all week... Just wanted to say there is still hope for all of us who have yet to receive any tracking info. My iphone 32gb black 4s has been back-ordered since Monday. I have talked to someone on online chat as well as customer service. I placed my order on 10/7 7:30pm. I didn't receive my T&C until Monday evening. My status just went from 1 in back-order to 0. The automated line says my order is being processed. I still have hope that I will get my phone tomorrow. Also ordered 8gb 3gs which went to shipped yesterday.

Anyway I hope everyone gets their phone tomorrow who placed their order Friday.:)
