Ordered at 5:45am EST on Oct 7. BACKORDERED!

Cannot believe ATT! Up at 3am ordering until 5:45am on Oct 7. Get a confirm email that I will be delivered on the 14th. ATT business website (Premier) didnt even enter it until Oct 8th so it didnt show up until the 10th. Got another email about delivery on the 14th but no shipping data. Checked my bank account and my ATT amount was pending to pay ATT. Checked the website for myatt.com AND Premier order number. It is on backorder!!! Amount was no longer pending on my bank account and no shipping date posted. Called ATT and they cannot tell me anything but that it will ship "soon". My guess is that first come, first serve does not apply to business customers. I work for the Washington Post and we have a very large account with ATT but they clearly processed my order last! Did anyone else have this issue?

You just can't beat AT&T..

The key is you must be ready to order the moment the site goes live or it's a total crap shoot. Too much demand.

Assuming that wasn't satire (and I'll believe you got your phone early when you post pics), your exception does not a rule make. I ordered at 2AM PST, only went off backorder status today, still no tracking number, and no emails since the confirmation on Friday.
 
I used that site to check on my iphone too! I typed in FDX for the airline and then typed the departure airport as KMEM and then my home airport. Looks like it's on it's way!

Curious if anyone else is seeing the latest status of IN TRANSIT on their FedEx status? I believe mine is currently en route, however I don't see a departure scan from Memphis. I'm not a FedEx guru though, so this could be normal.

The one I ordered for my wife, arrived this morning at 9:48am.

That's five years in a row that AT&T has brought our iPhones on release day or a day early.

I really appreciate that AT&T uses FedEx, since it's such a reliable service.

So the summary of my experience is as follows.

1) Order phone the moment the web site opened for AT&T pre-orders.

2) Received order confirmation email within minutes of placing order.

3) Next day received email with estimated shipping date

4) Following day received email with tracking number & estimated arrival date (10.14.11)

5) I waited the suggested 24 hrs for the tracking number to post, then confirmed it.

6) Followed via tracking number to see if it got stuck or cleared customs in Alaska.
(had a MBP get stuck in customs for 15 days once, customs fault)

7) Noticed it sailed through customs (Alaska) quickly (PHEW)

8) Arrived in Oakland last night, still says delivery date of 10.14.11

9) Checked this morning saw updated to: out for delivery.

10) Before I knew it I heard the rumble of the truck, phone arrives.

11) Hop in the car, take to wifes work so she can set it up and enjoy.

You just can't beat AT&T..

This is not the key considering I ordered over the phone at 3:30 ET on the 7th & my phone is being delivered to my doorstep tomorrow.

Obviously, AT&T can be blamed as their " First come, first serve " ruling didn't necessarily follow through.

You keep saying your phone came early but every time somebody asks for proof you never come through. We don't believe you.
 
I ordered a white 64GB at 12:32pm EST on the 7th and my order status just changed to Shipped with a UPS tracking number. The tracking number has no data yet on the UPS site.

Disappearing of the pending charge is a good thing. Seems like they have shipped it and may be didnt update.

I am backed ordered and still nothing, but pending charge is there. Not good.

I got tired of Premier's BS and when they removed the pending charge I took my money out. Eff them, I'm going to Apple tonight :)

AT&T screwed up the payment processing, and it sat at Pending for DAYS. I called and called and they assured me I didn't have an order at all. Then on the night of the 11th, they send us an e-mail saying the order needs attention and to call a number out of PA. Two days later, still sitting at Backordered.

IT's great that you have had a great experience. But there is no "key". It's been a crapshoot anyway.
 
This has probably been answered but I would just like a quick reply. I ordered my iPhone from the ATT store around 2PM EST on the 8th. I know I shouldn't expect my phone for a couple weeks, but I remember the employee I ordered it from said that the credit card wouldn't be billed until the phone shipped, or something similar to that. I checked my order status online and the item status still says processing and shipment status backordered, but in the billing info it says that the last time the account was billed was on the 10th, which seems like the date when most phones shipped. And it was definitely the phone that was billed.

Is there any chance I might get it tomorrow or before the 1-2 week shipping wait? I'm fully prepared to wait, but it would be a nice surprise.

If you ordered on Friday you should be 95% ok. If anyone has a tracking number and cant track let me knw n i can give a fast look. 1800-GoFedex can track by address if possible.
Mine jus went out of back order.
Ordered Friday 7.30 pm central. Says I ordered on 10/11/11.
So im sweating less know. GOOD LUCK!!

Ordered from Apple around noon CST on 10/07. UPS tracking shows both mine and my wife's currently in Louisville, KY. Delivery scheduled for tomorrow (10/14).

I have to say if i get my phone couple more days late, that would be ok. Im not that mad at at&t but at some point i have to say they have to inform us better. Im not one of those guys that MUST get their phone tomorrow, but at the same time i don't want to wait for another week. I have to say the logistic is doing good job, it's just those people behind it doing RANDOM DRAW on who should get the phone first and second etc.

BUT DESPITE OF ALL THAT, I HAVE TO SAY I WILL NOT CANCEL MY ORDER, AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO'S STILL WAITING;
"DO NOT CANCEL YOUR ORDER!!!" I HAVE A VERY BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS CANCELING ORDER! I've read articles saying people regret on canceling their phone. If you're the first 10 people in line MAYBE, but if you already did, then stick with it!! A FRIENDLY REMINDER! for the MacRumor community.

First of all, congratulations!
In the other hand, you order later than many of us and even have order date at 10/11 and have some progress. For me... i have no progress what so ever. Backorder=1.... dam .. dam... dam....
 
I ordered at a similar time over the phone and chatted online with AT&T today and they said it has shipped, and that carriers are 48 hours behind updating and now when I track by reference on UPS by my cell number (under mail innovations - which is their bulk shipment branch) I can see I have 1 package. I do not have any tracking # information, but I can see it. (I tried this trick for the past 2 days and it didn't work until today)

So you may want to try that. (and try fedex the same way since they are sending them through both carriers).

And I didn't get my T&Cs until Saturday at noon despite checking very regularly until it came. The official order confirmation came about an hour later.

Looks like my phone is in the destination sort facility prior to going out to the local delivery hub late tonight. Delivery in the morning... darn! I was hoping that I'd get it today since I live so close to the origin hub, but apparently they sat on this block of iPhones all day. Arrived there at 4 am and they didn't ship it out of there under almost 5.

Well our phones coming to Minneapolis now show a departure from Indianapolis via FedEx at 1739 CDT. Since the only FedEx airplane departures anywhere around that time are to the West and East Coasts, I guess the flying portion of our phones' tour is over and now they are onto the bus portion.
