Followup from the AT&T rep I purchased from:

"With preorder you have a huge advantage of not standing in a line that will begin outside our doors tonight. It will be an absolute zoo tomorrow and we cannot guarantee that we will have enough stock for all customers. Last year we sold out before 10am and we hadn’t reached the end of the line. The other part was that we don’t get reinforced with stock until November (most likely) in which case you’d probably have to order from apple and with a longer wait time. I do know that most people on preorder opening day have received notice that their iPhone’s will be shipped before those dates. Though I cannot promise that it will come before then, I can promise that the 14-21 days is the ABSOLUTE latest. I can understand the confusion and frustration but I truly believe you did it the right way."

What a load of BS. i should've just ordered from Apple. Lesson learned.

He's trying to tell you how lucky you are to be back ordered for a week or two or three because you took the time to go to the AT&T store to pre-order. You and I would probably have your new iphone tomorrow if we had just stayed home and ordered either online or via phone from any of the carriers or Apple.
 
I'm thinking that a lot of the people wigging out in this thread will be a little embarrassed about their meltdowns tomorrow, when they are opening up their new phones.

Agree. I don't even have a shipping number, and I am not bitter.
If I get my three devices tomorrow great, if not, bummer but it will be fine.

Also, lots of folks taking out their frustration with the poor CSRs working the phones and chat. These are people like you and me, trying to do their jobs as best they can with the information they have available.
Just because their system is not perfect or they don't have up to the minute information to please everyone, it doesn't mean they are out to get you or are withholding your precious iPhone.
I am certain that if they could help everyone they would. Cut them a little slack and treat them the way you would like to be treated if you were in their shoes.

Why would you do that? I would assume it's worth more if it's Jailbroken and unlocked..

Well i'm selling my 3GS to gazelle.com so i'm sure they don't care. I don't feel like selling on ebay with the ebay fees and paypal fees. Even then if someone want to buy it off me before the pre-paid box comes in I restored it to the 4.1 firmware so it can be jailbroken again.

Will FedEx leave iPhone package at door?

I want to ask FedEx to leave phones at my door if I am not there. (It is a good neighborhood, not too worried).
Just in case I am asked to come into office tomorrow instead of working at home.

But I do not see anyway to print out a form for that from the FedEx site.

Anyone know how to do this, or are they preventing this for iPhone deliveries?

Well, in the past half hour I went from Backordered to Processing to Shipped. My tracking number doesn't work though... Still, feeling very relieved.

Finally my white 16 GB shows processing instead of back order. Did not indicate shipped though. Maybe rep was not BSing when she said it will be shipped on 14th. At least the white will arrive next week latest if this is indeed the case. Black version will come tomorrow by 3 pm.

ANYONE NOT WANTING TO WAIT A WEEK OR TWO, RADIO SHACK HAS PHONES IN STOCK I WENT IN TODAY PUT $50 AND THEY SECURED ME A PHONE FOR TOMORROW. ITS STILL EARLY MAYBE SOME MIGHT WANNA TRY THAT ROUTE!!!!! i was happy to find this out after att system canceled my order (how rude)

FedEx is NOT worried about your neighborhood, they are worried about people saying they never saw it, and filing a claim against them -

You peeps better have someone home to sign for it, or you'll be sorry for sure!
 
Okay everybody. I too like most of you was worried about my order. I placed my order at 5:30 Am ET on 10/7 Friday. My credit card had a failure and could not be charged. I rectify the problem by sat 10/8. The Att rep told me my spot was saved and that it was still on order to ship. The status of my iphone has been Back ordered all week.

I kept coming in here worried , but one of the things i notice was that the phones being shipped out were 32 g and 16 g and not many 64 g. That lead me to believe that those phones had higher volume orders ergo would need the most immediate attention.

Today my status went from 1 back ordered to 0 and nothing else happened , no tracking or shipping info. At or about 5:30pm my status received a tracking number even though the item had zero shipping info.

At around 7:30 my ordered switched to shipped and full information.

I still have not received any email from ATT nor has my credit card has been charged.

I am sure my phone will arrive tomorrow at some point. A nice shiny white 64 g IPhone.

My point is that your phone could very well already been shipped on it's way to you , but maybe ATT hasn't updated any of the information , because they are being overloaded with people calling in asking about the phone , ups , or fedx not updating their systems, trying to ship all the phones.

Because truth be told tomorrow over 1 million phones will be shipped and that is 200,000 from att alone ,plus the in store phones.

If your ordered by Oct 7 your more then likely going to get your phones.

I hope everyone that ordered their IPHONE 4s gets it. and we will be back here next year with IPHONE 6X :D

go to UPS.com and track via reference and use your cell number or your order number (pick mail innovations)

You can look up your Order Status here by using either your Order Number or Cell Number. I've been using my order number as it has never appeared in the My Orders section of my wireless account.

I ordered day 1, 07:15 over the phone (had to in order to keep 5$ footlong plan)

got T&C email, didn't get final confirmation, could NEVER check order status and only could get status by calling in to a SPECIAL DNRD number, whatever that is. They finally said, no, it won't be arriving tomorrow and most likely will be 21-28 days before we ship it out.

At that point I said Frak this, cancel the order. Got a text message that said "order cancelled" that took about 10 seconds.

I have been FULLY charged for the phone, not a pending or processing a complete charge. I still can't see any order status of course, not cancelled, not pending, nothing.

I have this strange feeling that a phone IS going to show up at my house tomorrow morning. AND I WILL KEEP IT!

No they aren't worried, but since I accept liability for loss of the package when I sign the waiver, I have to be the one to judge the risk.

Will the know it all forum members stop telling those of us that are still back ordered from the in store pre-orders that we are actually going to get it tomorrow and we will feel silly? I only wish. Some will, but that is because some stores used some of their allotment to fill some of the pre-orders. And those have received their info by now about delivery. Willing to bet on this based on all the info in this thread and my convo's with AT&T reps.
It's pretty clear that most of the retail AT&T stores pulled a fast one and didn't explain that they were not placing us on the same cue list as the people calling AT&T and ordering or the online orderers. They back ordered most of us from their store allotments and weren't up front about it. I'm so pissed neither AT&T or the stores are being up front about this situation. I guess it is because they know it's wrong and will hurt these stores in the future if we know the truth. We got screwed and are not getting the phone for at least another week, maybe two or three.

So enjoy your phones, but shut up about us over reacting, OK!?

Yea seriously its easy for those to say who received shipping info and will receive the phone tomorrow. i highly doubt that if you did not receive ship info by tonight that you will be getting a phone tomorrow.

What if it's coming via FedX?

The same thing works for fedex. Track under reference number.
You may need to refresh a number of times (even if it didn't work right away) to get it to show up . I have had to a couple of times now.

woohoo. got a text from att thanking me for my iphone upgrade and i just tracked it and its in the area! just arrived in the state above me at 730!
