Well someone had asked about cancelling and just trying to find it in stores. I guess I should have quoted their post.

Gotcha. I'm sure there are some stores out there with stock, but question is do you want to have to go through the hassle of finding what stores as oppose to just waiting for the preorder or order.

----------

I waited too long!!! All the iphone 4s are sold out where I live!

Does anyone knows how long does it takes for apple to iphone get back in stock??

Thanks :D

Their website has the wait time as being 1-2 weeks and I'm sure their stores should get some more in this week.

I completely agree, I'm not phone chasing anymore. I did that over the weekend. If it comes this week I'll be happy.

Also check Best Buy, Target and Radio Shack.

so i finally found a supervisor from att to be able to cancel my preorder. Was supposed to recieve a text message once done.

have yet to recieve that text.

hoping it gets reversed soon.

Finally got a call from Customer Service

The CSR acknowledged the whole back order status of most of the in-store pre-orders right from the get go. Claimed corporate was unaware of it till now. Riiiiight. Hear that Frankly???

I'm really sorry to those that do not have their phones yet. I really am. But please stop calling those of us that did liars and making up crap.

Oh, frankly, I don't think anyone's calling you a liar. You ordered, you got your phone, I believe you. The prevarication to which the folks on this thread refer is generally on the part of the company - and very few people blame the cs folks for anything past being uninformed. There are lots of contradictory bits of information coming from AT&T, I get a different story from everyone there, it varies from store to store, from rep to rep. Some reps have even posted on this forum regarding their limited access to information within the company. This is not a well-managed operation.

Screw ups happen - they happen all the time - I'm not judging AT&T on the screw up, I'm condemning the way they have handled it. If a company fails in some way to deliver on something they have promised me, but then gives an honest, good-faith effort to rectify the situation, I will be MORE loyal to that company than to one who never screwed up in the first place.

I have no idea what happened to your second phone. You don't think they had something personal against you though right as many are claiming in here? I am curious, did you order the same model (color/size) for you and your wife?

Still lolling weirdo?

same black 16g. and no, i don't think the execs sat around in a conference room with a naughty list. i just find it perplexing, mind-boggling, and incomprehensible how her phone got to our house and mine is in la-la land.

and when i read the first post i couldn't help but think "what's the difference between typing 'lolling' and 'laughing'? Couple of keystrokes?" i don't get people nowadays.

word. if they had said to me at any point during the time frame of 10/10-10/14 that they had been extremely overwhelmed on 10/7 and the fact of the matter is some people will get it and some won't i would be a lot more tolerant of the situation. i'm upset because over and over again i was reassured that my phone would be here the 14th. and it's now the 18th and i probably won't see it until this weekend or later. it's like making a reservation at a hotel, car rental, whatever, and then finding out when go to the hotel or avis that the reservation was never accepted, despite the confirmation page you printed off, and now you're stuck sleeping in a rundown fleabag of a motel or driving a yugo.

Should I cancel my pre-order?

I ordered 2 phones on 10/7 at about 10:30am EST at the ATT store. A 32gb and a 16gb. The 32gb came on the 14th but the 16gb (my daughters phone) is, you guessed it, BACKORDERED. So I was wondering if I should cancel the pre-order and reserve a phone at Apple? Problem is my daughter is coming over from Verizon so her activation is going to be a port of the Verizon phone number.

Make any sense to do that and how would it all work?

Ordered my iPhone 4s 16 gig yesterday. The guy in the store told me it will be about 1-2 weeks before it gets here. But when I received the confirmation email it said that its going to be approximately 21-28 days before I receive my phone.

Not really sure who to believe? I'm hoping what was written in the email was put in there as a sort of "just in case" thing. Anyone have any ideas as to when I can expect it to get here?

The wait time is 21-28 days stated by AT&T. Will it actually take that long though? Who knows at this point.

Well, so much for the folks who were told that things might update last night at midnight. Still backordered, in-store order 10/7 10:30 AM EST. I was told at the time that I had missed the deadline for 10/14, and that it would be 14-21 days, which now means sometime between this Friday and next.

Is there anyone who
-ordered on 10/7 in-store, and
-was told they had missed 10/14 delivery, and
-therefore has been on backorder since the 7th
-that has seen any change in their order yet?

I've GOT to be one of the first in line once the backorders start shipping. Just hearing that someone has seen movement would be nice to hear.

I didn't even try to cancel - no stock anywhere in town.

At this point, we can just hope at&t would make us happy by shipping it out this week.. fingers crossed. again.. again..

Looks like I've waited too long and now all the stores around me say they won't get any for 2-3 weeks. I guess my pre-order is the best bet now.

I was almost in that situation. Corporate CSR called me after I had a series of emails with them detailing everything regarding the in-store pre-order back order fiasco. She confirmed it was all true, claimed corporate was in the dark on this. Three way called manager. He called around ( his stock was gone) and found a white version for me. He's picking it up from the other store and will sell me tomorrow. He's canceling my pre-order tonight. I can't help but feel they are all covering their butts. Manager claims he "wasn't in the loop" when the decision to back order the in-store pre-orders was made. Not sure if he's the head manager of this location. What ever. At least I'm getting a phone tomorrow. Keep fighting guys!!! But you're right. If you didn't get one by now, don't cancel. I'd wait it out. Supplies of the first rush of iphone 4s's are dwindling quickly.

Since quantity backordered is now 0 for all items, expect your tracking number tonight. They usually ship overnight!

Wrong, unfortunately...my order changed from backorder qty. 1 to zero a week ago. It's been sitting on pending shipment since then. Wish I had more hopeful news that a tracking number will be assigned. I just don't want people getting their hopes up and then crashing.

:)

iPhones in stock at apple stores. I got my 4S preorder canceled :)

I waited too long!!! All the iphone 4s are sold out where I live!

Thanks :D

Have u checked apple stores or just AT&T. I like in orange county, CA and all 5 apple stores in my area r stocked up. They've been getting shipment every night over the weekend. So they prob continued that into the first week of iphone 4S sales.

I preordered on Oct 7 but like many others it's backordered and i still havent gotten it on Oct 18. I've called at&t like 4 times and asked for it to be canceled. I thought I'd try again today. I got a super nice guy and he told me it would take another 10-14 days for me to get my iphone. I acted all sad and asked if i could cancel my order and pick it up at a local Apple store. He said "i'll see what i can do" 30 min later he had canceled the order and restored my upgrade. 2 min after that I got an email saying my order was canceled and a text saying my upgrade was restored. Going to the apple store in a few min :) SO STOKED to get my 4s.

btw i'm a girl and acted sweet. maybe that made a difference. Also my order status was "in progress" which means ready to ship when available. and all other att reps told me onces it's "in progress" there's nothing they can do. but this guy just did it <3

Obviously they decided to back order their pre-orders like most of the stores. So the "missed the deadline for 10/14 sounds like a lot of BS. Unfortunately we are all at the mercy of the store managers in this fiasco. No one at corporate or in-store will ever own up to the fact that they screwed the best customers they had, the in-store with CC in hand people so they could sell more iphones. I did get a confirmation from the CSR that called to resolve my problem however. Confirmed all my suspicions regarding the back order of most in-store pre-orders. She said it was only through our complaining that they are now becoming aware of this. So the store manager denied culpability, corporate denied knowledge but confirmed the existence of the problem after the fact. None of this surprises me. I personally believe that at some level corporate had approved this strategy to maximize sales. We'll never get to the truth, I'm afraid. Lesson learned though. Pre-order on line, preferably through Apple, and never stop complaining if you want to be heard at AT&T.

another backorder story

Well, I figure after following the 230+pages of this thread that I should share my story.....

Preordered in store two 32gb black iphones 10/09/11 1200pst

I was told at the time 21-28 day shipping time. The store rep said it would probably be sooner but they wouldn't get much inventory at launch so it was better to preorder. That was my experience with the ipad launches and a few other factors prevented me from ordering elsewhere so I went ahead with it. Needless to say, had I waited I would have had opportunities even today to buy instore, but that's another story....

I noticed last night that my att preorder status now includes some other random 16gb white iphone on my order. It has a separate order number and order date of 10/17. I called ATT and they said a 'glitch' put this info in my status but there was nothing they can do about it and my order is intact. I explained (nicely of course) that I had concerns about order errors because of this extra phone but I realized quickly I wasn't getting anywhere. I was offered 1000 rollover minutes for my trouble which I declined. I spoke with a supervisor who again confirmed my order was intact and not to worry about the order status message. I ultimately accepted a $60 credit to my bill, but the whole thing makes me nervous.

I called the store manager where I preordered who also confirmed my order and couldn't explain the glitch. He was friendly but there was nothing he could do. He did have two 64gb black phones in stock. He said I could cancel my orders and get those or go elsewhere if I wanted. I decided to stick with my original order, although I am tempted to go to Apple if I can find in stock there.

The store manager confirmed that orders in back order status could be cancelled. The ATT supervisor and this manager both acknowledged weaknesses in their preorder process, but denied any deprioritization to in store preorders. They stuck to the first come, first served script.

For me, it doesn't feel like preordering offered much of a benefit. And preorders fulfilled irrespective of order date seems most problematic.
Also, if they could just get their act together and give a more concrete shipping time it would feel like my phones are out there and allocated, but just need to make their way to me. You think ATT would have gotten it together after the previous launches.

Feel bad for all you folks who are still waiting for 10/07 preorders. On a positive note, I am upgrading from the original iphone so am excited to join the party.

Is there anybody that was able to successfully cancel (since yesterday) a pre-order placed online on 10/7 ?
If so did you check that the order status turned to "canceled" in the order status page ?
What is the ATT number that you called to cancel the order ?

Store manager did it for me. It shows cancelled. It showed up pretty quickly on the status page. Sorry, I can't be of help with the number to call. Maybe someone else will provide that for you.
Good luck. Not sure canceling is the best strategy though, unless you have another iphone ready to buy. Supplies seem to be getting scarce now??
