I check the VZ Preorder thread and I see a few customers have gotten their phones this week and phones are being shipped out this week. Yet, no movement on AT&Ts part though. There's no way anyone from 10/7 should be still waiting for a phone almost 2 weeks later. SMH

has reached max #,no longer good:rolleyes:

Great idea-I called and they have 10 white,16G in stock,no black.

Any of you guys got a Bestbuy Mobile near you? The ones in my area have plenty of 4s in stock just sitting there and also they have the best warranty on phones. But back to the subject matter i put my 4s on hold at the AT&T atore near me as soon as they opened on the 7th and i didnt get mine on the 14th for whatever reason. So i called the Bestbuy Mobile by my house and they was like yea we have plenty of 32gb 4s in stock they put one aside from me and 30 mins later walked out with my new iPhone.

BY THE WAY, THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Anyone who is still getting this message - "We apologize for the inconvenience. We cannot complete your request at this time. Please wait at least 24 hrs from placing your order, before checking the status of your order online. If the problem persists, please call us at 1-888-333-6651 for further assistance. NOTE: An email may have been sent to your email address on file. Please check your email which may have additional information about your order. ",

Do NOT enter the zip code of the store you ordered from when checking the order status. It says on the website to enter the store's zip code, but if your shipping address zip code is different you must enter the one that your phone will be shipping to. I've been entering my house zip since I ordered and can see that I'm back ordered, but when I enter the store zip, I get the above message.

Just thought some of us might be doing this..

I was exactly the same until Saturday, where mine shipped for Monday. When is your order processing date? Even though I placed my order at about 10:30 on Friday the 7th, AT&T's ordering server crashed and a bunch of the orders weren't processed until the 9th, 10th or 11th.

I got an e mail confirmation the same day that I ordered, which was on the 7th.

Ordered in store on the 7th around 2PM EST. Card still hasn't been charged and the order number still says backordered. Called all of the AT&T stores around me to see if I could just pick one up, but they're all sold out...

Unless you live in a rural town where there wasn't a huge rush for the iphone, it's probably going to be sold out, or very limited stock in apple stores, for the next couple weeks. At this point, especially if you're in the 14-21 day estimate, it's probably best to just wait. Hopefully this Friday a bunch of us should see some forward movement as that's 14 days. I was told if I don't receive mine by the 31st, or don't have any shipping info, to call in. If I have to, they better be prepared to give it to me for free...

Hi all, my first post! Kind of nice having a community where we can commiserate and see that we're not alone in our frustrations.

Kinda peeved Verizon pre-order customers are getting their 4S's quicker than AT&T customers, especially since AT&T has had the iPhone longest and thus many (but not all, I know) AT&T customers will have had their iPhones longer than Verizon customers. But customer loyalty means nothing nowadays...

Ordered 10/10 in-store (we were on vacation since Friday in a rather remote location, otherwise I would've tried on 10/7). Two iPhone 4S's, 16GB, black. Were given the 21-28 day spiel, etc. Were also told we *might* see them a bit quicker since the black ones weren't selling quite as many as the white ones, not putting much stock in that though. So we're looking at Oct 31-Nov 7 timeframe.

I did notice that the card I used to purchase them with did show the purchases in "pending charges" status or something like that a few days ago. Now those two charges aren't there anymore. I'm not taking this as any kind of sign of pending shipment, but man, that sure would be nice, wouldn't it? Also did the little trick mentioned earlier about checking other orders by changing the order number and seeing if any have shipped. Earliest 4S order I can see is from 10/7, and it's only 32 orders before mine, but that one is also still backordered/pending shipment, so I'm pretty sure there's no way mine is even close to being shipped.

Sigh. Oh, well. I'll see it one of these days/months.

That's the part that gets me. If you check the VZ preorder thread there's movement on VZ part dailiy as far as getting orders out.

My Pre-order Horror Story

I ordered 4S 32gb black in an ATT store on October 7th at around noon eastern time. I wanted to order in-store because I am doing an upgrade swap with another line on my plan and I wanted to make sure that was handled correctly. The rep I dealt with told me I should get an e-mail about accepting terms and conditions shortly after I ordered. He also assured me that I had ordered in time and I should expect to receive my phone on the 14th. He said at various points the system might display an expected ship date of 14-21 days, but that I would get my phone on the 14th.

I did not receive a terms and conditions e-mail (I did, however, receive an e-mail with a tutorial on how to use my new device, so I know ATT knew about my order). I waited through Saturday and Sunday -- still no e-mail. I had intended to call about it Monday Oct 11, but I just didn't have time. So, I called the ATT support number on Tuesday Oct 12. The ATT rep I spoke with said she wasn't sure why I hadn't received the e-mail. She said that someone in another department would contact me on or before the 14th to allow me to accept the terms and conditions over the phone and that my order would still ship on or around the 14th.

That answer seemed weird to me so I called the store where I ordered. They told me that I had accepted terms and conditions when I ordered the phone in-store and that my phone should ship as expected without any further action on my part. I remembered signing that, so their answer rang true. I left it at that for the time being. All the while my order status still showed backordered.

On Friday the 14th, an ATT rep called me. He informed me that I hadn't accepted the terms and conditions and that my phone wouldn't ship until I had. I explained to him that I had accepted them in-store and that I had never received an e-mail about anything to do with terms and conditions. He seemed as confused as me, but said he couldn't find anything in the system showing where I had accepted the terms and conditions. So, he said he would send out the e-mail so I could accept t&c's (whether for the first or second time), that I could expect the e-mail within the hour, and that my phone was reserved and would ship as soon as the issue was resolved.

On Saturday morning (Oct 15), I still didn't have the e-mail. So, I called ATT customer support again. They said it could take up to 48 hours to get the e-mail and there was nothing they could do. So, I waited the 48 hours.

On Monday morning (Oct 17), I still had no e-mail and I my order status was still backordered. I called customer service again. This time I got someone that actually seemed to have some ability to solve a problem. She called the ATT store I ordered from and verified that I had accepted terms and conditions there, got her supervisors to waive any further hoops the system was asking me to jump through, sent me an e-mail outlining my plan "changes," and sent a series of texts verifying that t&c's had been accepted, that the issue had been resolved, and linking me to my order status. She was told that my "place in line" had not been changed and I should receive my phone shortly.

Today my order status still says backordered. I called ATT, and they had the nerve to tell me that when I pre-ordered my phone, they said I would get it within 21-28 days (which is inaccurate, they said 14-21 at the time) and that they were still within that time frame. The intellectual dishonesty involved in that answer is staggering. Every ATT person I talked to on pre-order day would tell you to expect to receive your phone on the 14th or 15th. Whether they say something different in the fine print is irrelevant. They marketed the pre-orders as a way to receive your phone on launch day. Now they say I was mistaken in believing what they said.

ATT refuses to cancel the pre-order. They tell me it can't be done and that the only way the order can be cancelled is by returning the phone (after I receive it) within 30 days of the order. Further, they claim that my order date is Oct. 7. That was 12 days ago. They also tell me that it may take up to 28 days from today for me to receive the phone. So, they have set up a situation wherein I wouldn't be able to cancel the order at all if I receive it in the 21-28 day window they are currently quoting me. They admit as much. I am considering filing a complaint with my state Attorney General's office due to this particular issue.

Honestly, orders get screwed up sometimes and I can live with that. It is just a phone and I will be fine. However, I think it is beyond absurd that ATT would essentially act like I should have expected this from the get-go. If they would have owned up to their mistakes and offered any realistic solutions (like canceling the order) I wouldn't have been too upset. This deal has me considering a move to Verizon, however.

Sorry for the huge post. I don't think it violates forum rules, but I apologize if it does. Thanks for letting me vent.

You got it exactly right, it's all about the # of 2 year lock-in contracts

Precisely. They just want to lock in users on the orders so they can start fulfilling once the demand in store is diminished. It's a way to get more sale locked in upfront to secure customers to stay with them. It's a way to compete in this market since now Verizon and Sprint are another players. Previously since they had exclusivity they did not do these bad tactics.

How many % of users who ordered in-store comes to these forum and learn other ways to get it? I'd say less than 5%. Remaining 95% just wait until they get their order fulfilled at the mercy of AT&T. Either way AT&T wins. This is dirty business at expense of screwing loyal customers.

I can only speak to the in-store pre-order ordeal , as that is now my "expertise" after a week on this forum and interfacing with various AT&T personnel.
When I ordered at noon in-store on the 7th, the saleswoman was very adamant that I would not receive my iphone for 14-21 days. I chalked her stern warning up to the manager teaching the sales force to lower expectations so they would get less complaints. It was only until a group of us on this thread began to compare notes and realized that there was a disproportionate # of in-store pre-orders that were not getting filled in comparison to the on line and phone-in orders. We realized many of us were told we would be getting the iphones now through direct fulfillment (shipped to the home) rather than the previous method of calling us into the store when it arrived ( the way they did previously). We then realized that store pre-orders weren't put on the same pre-order cue. They were a back ordered status of the store's next allotment. The stores mostly ( at manager discretion?) decided to keep store allotments for walk-in customers on the 14th. This is so underhanded and wrong I want to scream. I told them through various emails and calls I knew their scam. They finally three way called the local store manager (who had refused to cancel me and buy on the 14th as I requested). He pleaded ignorance of the issue I had on the 14th, but he phoned around and found me a 64 GB white ( I wanted black, but what ever) at another store and drove and picked up for me last night. I picked up today. They just wanted me to go away. I knew the deal and they couldn't BS me like they are doing to the other 99% of in-store pre-order back order customers. I mentioned the pre-order back order thing while picking the phone up just to see the reaction (it's like a ghost town. Just employees standing around with no phones till November, they said) and all store employee eyes immediately averted to the floor and you could hear a pin drop. Believe me, they all know about it. As did corporate, who also pleaded ignorance while acknowledging the problem at the end of my long emails and convos over the past week. Shame on all of them. At least I got mine. Sorry for all you guys still waiting!

I canceled my pre-order with Best Buy today (given that they had only fulfilled FIVE ORDERS out of 75 pre-orders at that store), walked right into the Apple Store, and bought a white 64GB 4S. Bam. Done.

So glad that headache is over. The phone is noticeably faster, and I'm getting a MUCH, MUCH faster 3G data speed thanks to the HSPA+ capability (that's honestly the only reason that I stayed with AT&T). Tethering is even better now!! :)

Not backordered anymore, but not shipped ?

Just scratching my head. Been checking almost every 2 hours every day to see SOMETHING happen. Finally just now the order shows nothing backordered, 1 ordered but nothing shipped  ?

Hopefully it means there is some movement. I've had more movement in my colon than ATT has in iPhones 4S. Just bitter.

I got the same thing here. I ordered on Oct. 7th in store and got nothing until now. I went to the store last Sunday and they told me they had 64gigs in stock, which is the one I ordered, but! they can't give it to me cause I ordered it therefore I have to wait for the order! W.T.F! I ordered in advance to lose my right to buy the phone with the same price as a walk-by can did that day?! Call them today and still said I need to wait for more days. Guys, I'll never use AT&T anymore. I'm going for Verizon now.

I've posted here several times - ordered in-store 10:30 AM EST 10/7. Finally, some time this afternoon mine changed from Backorder to Processing on the Shipment Status. I've received no email, and have no idea if this means mine will ship in the next day or so or what, but I'm taking it as movement.

I was also told on the 7th that mine would arrive in 14-21 days, and as an aside the person also told me that it would probably be closer to 14 than to 21 and that they were trying to not over-promise.

So, we'll see how it goes. Hang in there...

Same here i have 2 white 16 g on ordered. Both of them just came off of backorder. Hopefully i get a tracking order soon.

My biggest beef is not with their obvious lies, but their refusal to cancel these fake pre-orders. As for next time, I will go to Verizon for the LTE iPhone. I suggest that EVERYONE email tcook@apple.com and let Apple know about AT&T's criminal activities.

i would say movement from backorder 1 to 0 is a good sign, although not sure anyone here can say whether that means it'll ship out tomorrow or whenever. But at this point, any forward movement is good. I'd expect for the next couple weeks that they're centering shipments around Fridays. 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, etc. But that's just my guess.

I ordered in store at 5:30pm PST and am still backordered. Was told my a very nice CSR that I can also expect it to be shipped closer to the 14 day window than the 21. She said 9/10 people who pre-ordered on the 7th can expect that. I'm just hoping I'm not that 1/10.

After a couple of posters on this thread said their order status had changed, I went and checked mine again. Now it shows all zeros in the backordered column. Hopefully things are finally moving along. I'm still considering returning the phone when/if it arrives and canceling my contract with AT&T. A mistake is one thing, but I feel as though this goes beyond a mistake.

It means nothing. A few responses back, someone posted their backorder went from 1 to 0 several days ago. No tracking number. No phone. No nothing.

FINALLY got some movement. my white 32 gig just girl taken off of back order! first change since 10/7 9 a.m.

Yes but most people got a tracking number in the next couple days when this happens. I'm betting they are getting ready for another big Friday delievery as another poster mentioned.
