I'm hoping that when they said all phones ordered before 5:30 on 10/7 will be shipped by 10/14 means that the early orders could ship before 10/14 but all orders before that time on 10/7 will be shipped at some time before and/or on 10/14. Wow. I think I confused myself.

I ordered mine friday@ 5am. The confirmation says expected delivery on 14th. online check status until 1hr ago says pending shipment with nothing at bac-order, and now it appears as back-ordered!!! I hope to received by friday... or I will get very upset...:mad::mad:

Mine said expected delivery on 10/14 but now I was told in the chat shipped on 10/14.

AT&T Applecare+

Sorry its a bit off topic but does anyone know the following:

If the same offer will be extended to AT&T customers that supposedly Verizon will be doing? I have read on various forums the following for Verizon orders.
1. A special number will be set up to call and add applecare+ by Wednesday.
2. An email will go out to customers letting them know that they can purchase it (apparently from Apple...not sure how)
3. or go into an Apple store on the 14th to add it.

Thanks.

I learned not to order from ATT with the 3GS. The tracking is horrible

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Kevin Ferguson'

Kevin Ferguson: Hello, My name is Kevin Ferguson. I would be happy to assist you with your order status.

Kevin Ferguson: I would be more than happy to assist you with your delivery questions today, Mr. Haggard. I will need at least 2-3 minutes to ready your account. You can also check your order status along with me and at anytime at www.att.com/wirelessorderstatus . Remember, all preorders made on 10/7/2011 before 5:30 PM will be shipped out on 10/14/2011.

you: This is the status that I am questioning. I ordered about 2 A on 10/7.

Kevin Ferguson: As long as your order was made prior to 5:30p.m. on the 7th your order will be shipped on the 14th.

you: I thought they were to be delivered on 10/14.

Kevin Ferguson: I apologize Mr. Haggard, they will be shipped on the 14th.

you: Is that a change from what we were told on 10/7?

Kevin Ferguson: No Mr. Haggard.

you: All emails status that I have received since my order was expected "Delivery" on 10/14 the release date for the phone. Otherwise I would have waited and gone to an Apple store.

Kevin Ferguson: I apologize Mr. Haggard, there is very limited information available since this product is still in the pre-order stages. The information we have been given states that preorders made on 10/7/2011 before 5:30 PM will be shipped out on 10/14/2011.

you: I know it's not your fault and you are just doing your job. Thank you for your time and help and good luck with other complainers like me.

Kevin Ferguson: Have a nice night Mr. Haggard.

Just buy it from apple

Hello everyone,
I'm new here, and I can basically answer this from the prior posts I have been reading throughout the thread but I just figure I'll ask anyway.

I preordered my iPhone 4S at my local AT&T store. The reason for that is that I am on a family plan and I don't have an upgrade for my phone, but my parents do and they didn't mind letting me use it for the 4S. I thought I'd have to go in to work out the cross-upgrade. I later discovered that going in was a total waste of time since they just signed up the phone on my dad's number and told me to come in once i get it (whenever that is).

So I ended up getting into the store at around 5:30 or 6PM (Friday), and waiting around for a while since the place was busy. I make the preorder and leave. I get the confirmation email at 8:07PM Eastern saying my phone will be shipped in 14-21 days. At this time, Apple's website still said their orders were being delivered on the 14th.

Now I am hearing this nonsense about how if you were past 5:30 then its 21-28 days? My AT&T order status still says Pending Delivery, Backordered.

Is there any sliver of a chance that I will receiving the phone on release day? Some people are saying that in the past they just play it safe with those delivery numbers and that you might get it on release day anyway. I am concerned because my parents are both going away on vacation next Wednesday (19th). If I get the 4S during their vacation, I wont be able to use it since its still on my dad's number. I'm not an authorized user on the account (so AT&T would not touch the phone) and I wouldn't have his old phone (which I'd need to make the sim switch). I also can't just temporarily activate the iPhone and use his number since then his old phone would get deactivated and he needs it obviously.

Basically, if I don't get it on release day or in the following days, I'm screwed for at least another week.

If anyone can read my wall of text and give me their thoughts, I'd appreciate it!

Taking iPhone tracking to a new OCD level

For those of you who want to take iPhone tracking to a whole new OCD level, here's a shell script that you can automate with a cron job as often as you'd like to check to see if your tracking #s generated from the AT&T site once they become available. Replace <FEDEXTRACKINGNUMBEREHERE> with the actual tracking number without the angle brackets and then plug in your email addresses.

Code:
#!/bin/bash
touch /tmp/fedex.txt
rm -f /tmp/fedex.txt
wget http://fedex.com/Tracking?tracknumbers=<FEDEXTRACKINGNUMBERHERE> -O /tmp/fedex.txt -q
c=`cat /tmp/fedex.txt | grep -i "no information" | wc -l`

if [ "$c" == "1" ]; then
echo "Not Yet dammit" > /dev/null
else
echo "YES YES YES!" | mail -s "iPhone 4S is on its way!" xxxxxxxx@gmail.com
echo "YES YES YES!" | mail -s "iPhone 4S is on its way!" 5555551212@mms.att.net

Ordered from AT&T at 4:30am cst. Shipping status is "Pending". So they're only going to ship them on the 14th, not before? That's crappy.

I Agree. Relax!

This thread is probably doing more harm than good.

Zero AT&T phones have shipped. Apple has started shipping because those phones are coming from China, not a warehouse in the states.

CALM DOWN. :)

Thank You! If you ordered on Friday morning, it will arrive on 10/14. AT&T's system won't throw it in until Wednesday probably, just like the iPhone 4 shipments last year. The CSRs don't know the whole story and didn't watch the keynote on the 4th like everyone in this forum.

If you want to see panic, go read the thread when the iPad 1 was introduced. No one thought it would arrive on time. Everyone thought their iPads were being instantly transported back and forth from Louisville to Shenzhen. The online shipping orders won't be 100% correct until it says delivered!

I'm looking forward to playing with iOS 5 on the iPad and my 3GS until Friday. No Siri but I think I'll live. :D

This looks like a crash waiting to happen.

I suppose if enough people do it and get major OCD and configure it to check every minute, than yah, I suppose you're right :p I was thinking of setting it to check every hour.

Did you know that you can add apple care + to your phone anytime within that first year? You do not need to add it before you buy it. I have bought it after the first 90 days in the past for the iPhone 4 with no problems from apple. however, (just thinking) since you are buying the phone directly from AT&T then perhaps - do you have to buy the apple care when you buy the iPhone? interesting.

AppleCare+ is different than AppleCare and must be purchased at the same time as the phone. This has been discussed.

Who told you this? I am sure people have used debit cards in the past.

Just saw comments in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1245553/

People saying ATT does not allow debit cards for iPhone purchases.

I agree with your response.

I used my debit card and mine is going through just fine.

Please tell me how is it different? This is certainly something I should know about... thanks for posting on here. :)

Here is my entire email thread with Apple today re: same time purchase...

Thanks but that's the issue..Apple will not sell it unless you buy it with the iphone from them directly. They recommended cancelling the initial AT&T order and resubmitting it from them. Is there another around this.
