I just called all the stores near me. More than 15 of them. They said I can come in to the store and place my order with a credit card. I asked how long it would take for me to get it. "At least 30 days sir."

"Its a safer bet to take this route as we don't know when we will get more stock."

If you can imagine 15 parrots repeating the same thing to you over and over.

so i ordered in store, and was able to reserve a 16gb white at one of the stores in nyc for tomorrow. i'm trying to cancel with them but they can't seem to find the order on their database. isn't that weird? talking to the csr; she's trying to persuade me to hang up and have someone call me back tomorrow and to call the store - but i'm insisting she ask other people. hope it works out, will update you guys how it goes.

for those in the nyc area, last time i checked they still have all the black models in store if you guys want to pick it up.

fifth ave still has some last time i checked. but i would check quickly because all the stores were full at 8:59Pm and then the site crashed a million times before i was able to grab one at w14th.

i wasn't able to cancel. the store's supposed to call me tomorrow or i might just have to drop by to cancel. wish me luck!

edit: i was being so vague. i ordered in att but am still backordered, so i used the apple reserve system and the "stores" that have them are the apple stores - in particular the one on fifth ave. apologies.
 
I hate that it seems like I've been waiting so long, and it's been longer than I usually have to wait for things I order, but AT&T technically hasn't lied to me or misrepresented.

It's BULL that the store had the exact 2 phones my wife & I ordered, in stock, last Saturday, but refused to let us cancel our order & buy them. But they made it clear when we ordered that preorders COULD NOT be cancelled. I wish I'd understood the significance of that, and had the foresight to assume the store stock wouldn't sell out before I could get out of work on that Friday. But I didn't. So now I wait.

The store rep said, "approximately 2-3 weeks," and the confirmation email said, "14-21 days." Day 14 is tomorrow. And I was late on the 7th--after work in Eastern time zone. So I'll understand if I'm closer to 21 than 14 days. But it still sucks. Someone joked above that their phone is still probably being made in China. I think that's probably literally true for us in the 2nd+ wave of fulfillment. Demand >> supply. It's annoying that AT&T "sold" more than they could deliver. But id probably be just as mad if they'd sold only what was available and refused to allow back-orders.

I wish they'd stop pretending that they can't estimate shipping dates to closer than a 7-day window. That's bogus. If they genuinely can't do better than that, they probably won't be able to stay in this business (selling popular hardware) in the future.

pre-ordered on att.com on 10/7, 4:30am. white 16gb.
still no news, no emails, still backordered.

on the other hand, i got one at the apple store.
have yet to cancel the online att order.
i hope i can talk tmobile into blocking ATT from transferring my # cuz i am definitely not going to be an ATT customer, after the mess they dragged me into. even if it means slower internet. i don't surf all that much on the phone anyways! :cool:

Not surprising they can't find your order. I'm sure they don't want to lose the business. If you tell them you don't want to cancel, they may suddenly find it. :)

It seems they have only shipped twice so far-once a week and since I ordered on the 8th,hopefully mine will be next week,along with those not yet filled who ordered on the 7th.So I am expecting mine next week at the end of the 14-21 day period.

"14-21 days" = "14-21 business days" (as mentioned a few pages upthread) = hogwash. Nobody uses multiples of 7 when they mean business days. The phone rep who said it was business days knows nothing.

I think its just think that its a way of saying 'we have no idea.'

But they did lie and they did make explicit misrepresentations to many of us. The rep I pre-ordered with in-store told me that I had ordered in time to get my phone on the 14th. He also told me to ignore the 14-21 day estimates. I've dealt with the guy before and I believe he was telling me what he believed to be legitimate and approved information. Moreover, the first several times I called AT&T customer support regarding my t&c's issues, they explicitly told me that my phone would ship overnight on the 13th or 14th. Then, all of a sudden, a week after I ordered they started saying 21-28 days. A figure that I had never been told before.

On top of that, I was told many times over that pre-orders were on a first-come, first-served basis. In common vernacular that is understood to mean the orders are filled in the order they are received. However, that is clearly not what happened as we have heard story after story of people still sitting in backorder status even though their local store had actual phones in stock. So, people who placed their orders after launch by walking into the store and buying one got their phone before people who placed their order a week (or more) earlier.

Maybe you don't think AT&T lied to you, but they did lie to many of us.
 
I just checked several orders from my local At&t store that I preorded from. Turns out that they have shipped ZERO preorders at this point in time. Earliest order was #152, which was in the backordered status. Turns out order 151 was from 10/1/11, so from my understanding, most orders after that will most likely for a 4s. My order is #200. I ordered on 10/10. Hopefully we will see more movement soon. :)
 
I ordered around 5:30pm PST too, still in back order (32 black btw) Let me know if you hear anything.

It doesn't seem like many of us that ordered on the west coast are getting our phones compared to those of east coast. Weird, but all of the PST people I see posting on here are posting about being back ordered and nothing positive.

Just checked for the 2nd to last time today and I'm still back ordered. This is NUCKING FUTS.

Agreed. They lied to, or were just too misinformed to give accurate info to, many of us. They told TOO many people they'd get phones on launch day.

And it makes me extra mad that in my case they technically told the truth.... I was just too dumb/newb to appreciate the subtleties of the script ("approx 2-3 weeks") they read. I'd almost be happier if my rep had outright lied--at least then I'd have a focus for my annoyance. As it is, I have only myself to blame. I hate it when that happens.

If this is the truth, they better stock up all of these damn phones they can and send them ALL OUT to those they promised "14-21 days". If i don't get it by next Friday, they can definitely expect me to demand at LEAST half off of this damn phone if not free. I will take it as far as i need to go to be listened to by these stupid employees claiming that they "don't know" what's going on. This is ridiculous. First come first serve my @$$.
 
UPDATE!! IT's in FEDEX Hands now!

I just checked my status at ATT.com and it's in Fedex hands and just left FORT WORTH, TX Scheduled delivery tommorrow.

ordered 10/8???? congrats for you but this is ********* up. theres plenty of 10/7 orders taht are still backordered.

west coast here mine changed from back order yesterday and shipped today overnight, coming tomorrow.
