Apple isn't doing ****, those "issues" are all opinion anyway. Apple doesn't release products if they feel they're inferior. It's all ATT.

Well, I jumped the gun and bought my 4S the day before my upgrade date was changed to 10/23. As a result, the retentions manager's attempt failed. I should have known better. Retention told me that I could purchase on 10/22, then when my upgrade date changed today (10/23), I could return/repurchase to get the phone for $399.

After an hour on the phone, the best they can go is...bill credit. $257.49 ($250 upgrade fee plus tax). $478.90 in total credit from them (3 1/2 months paid). I have a buyer for my iPhone 4 ($330+shipping), so basically, free.

I just need to make sure I pay the bill amount to the credit card each month. I hope I learn patience this year (I turn 44 next month).

Pre-ordered white 32G on the 7th at 1:45 EST for ATT store. Told 7-14 days, email received 30min later said 14-21 days.

As of 1pm on the 20th, there was still no movement from BO, and I was tired of getting conflicting answers and went into the ATT store I ordered it from and cancelled my order. I had to elevate to a manager, but they took care of me, cancelled it, and restored my eligibility status while I stood there.

I then walked into the local Apple store that I had reserved a white 32G in the night before through the automated system. It took all of 30min to wait, pay, receive, transfer contacts and activate all in store.

Good luck to those with the patience to wait until ATT gets them shipped. I wasn't one of those.

Just my experience, YMMV...

Funny, I did the same thing, but waited like 5 minutes. I had ordered a 32GB, but really wanted a 64GB. Of course, that's all Apple had, so I took it. Got grief from the wife for spending so much money (early up upgrade fee $250), but AT&T gave me $250 bill credit to make up for it.

I ordered my 16GB BLK at noon ofhe 7th, got my confirmation E-mail immediately. It had been in BO since then until Oct. 21st, when QTY BACKORDERED changed to 0, while QTY Shipped is also 0. No change since then. I'm wondering if QTY BACKORDERED becomes 0 means my phone is produced, and it just takes a while before they ship it.

Took mine a day from Backordered 0 to shipped 1. Yours turned 0 on a weekend so I think you'll get a tracker tomorrow.

Because I don't think bullies should go unchallenged...

And if you honestly can't detect that fact that he was joking then you really need to re-evaluate some things in your life.

This is just bizarre. How is noting someone's race a "joke." Face it, he mentioned the guy's race because he thought he could score some cheap points with a crowd that wouldn't push back.

Good God people these days never cease to amaze me with their Political Correctness, oversensitive crap.

This sounds like exactly what someone would say to try deflect attention away from an inappropriate remark - blame someone else's "sensitivity."

I find it really telling that someone piped up on the forum to say they were offended - an act that requires a fair bit of courage in this setting, since your attacking response was fairly predictable - and the first and so far only response is "Why are you so sensitive!?"

When someone says "I was offended," the proper response is "Oh, geez, I'm sorry about that." Maybe, if you truly have trouble seeing why, politely asking them to explain why they feel that way.

I think it's completely appropriate to call out loaded language when you see it, even in a conversation not about race. Quietly accepting "jokes" is how that kind of thing perpetuates.

We're all friends here on MacRumors. Let's do our best to keep it that way.

You replied an argued when the argument was over because you thought "bullies shouldnt go unchallenged"?

1.)Nobody is bullying anyone.
2.)I didn't even pay attention to the rest of your post because of the reason you posted.
3.)After reviewing the post, your last post about us all being friends on here is a good point.
4.)I explained that it had nothing to do with race and yet "that1asianguy" kept going and arguing and being all butthurt about something that didn't even have anything to do with race. It was a description and a joke about hurting someone. Not a joke hurting someone because of their race.

I got my pre-order cancelled. A 64GB white, I ordered within an hour of pre-ordering opening up. My credit card company did not authorize the transaction, once I was aware of this it was Sunday the 9th. I got the CC company to authorize and it went through. Unfortunately, AT&T put me in the back of the line. I've been "backordered" ever since.

So now it's over a week of a "21-28 day" wait time, and the lustre has dulled. So I decided to cancel the order and wait a couple of months to see if I still really wanted one, or if I could live with the i4 until the next model comes out, whenever that would be.

The initial customer service rep told me I would have to either "refuse the delivery" and force the carrier to send it back or mail it back myself to cancel - there was no way to do it in the system. I persisted, arguing that a pre-order should mean I get one on launch day, and why must the onus be on me or the mail carrier to send it back when it was obvious I was not going to get it for awhile - I felt AT&T should handle it on their end within their ordering system because the tangible iPhone 4S that was supposed to be mine did not even exist yet. He kept saying that he had "no way" to do the cancellation, so I finally asked to see a supervisor. He brought a "resolution specialist" online and she was able to cancel the order. The catch - it had to go to some "ICU Issue group" for they were the only ones authorized to put in the override to cancel. She assured me it would take 48-72 hours and gave me the option to receive the confirmation via text or call (I opted for a text).

She then said something curious, that she would try to get this done as soon as possible as she thought "I would be walking in to buy one right away". So people canceling their pre-orders seems to be a very common occurrence, and it appears the first tier of customer service reps are trained to resist as much as possible, the key is you need to "ask to speak to a supervisor" if you want it cancelled.

I always ask for the supervisor when I want anything done. Applies to all companies besides ATT cause I couldn't cancel my order and now the phones are sold out everywhere near me and I have to wait.

Still in back-order hell

I have to agree with jesuscandle, as I think those remarks were a little over the top and that 1asiangu had every right to express his feelings about what he considered offensive. The problem with the this type of communication is that you have to take things at face value and your joke can easily be misinterpreted because it is just words without any other context. I understand your point of view and understand that you did not mean any offense. I also think you have been a great contributor to this thread. This is not about being politically correct, it is about being aware and respectful of other people sensibilities.

The Mac community has always been inclusive and respectful and that is the way I would like it to stay. Thank you for listening

This is inappropriate. People here aren't happy with their pre-orders. I got one early but many did not. AT&T misrepresented their ability to fill the preorder needs. This was handled badly by AT&T.

No need to point out that other methods may have been better.

Anyone know how we're supposed to get Applecare+ seeing as how we haven't gotten our phones yet?

Do I have to wait until it is delivered, resist the urge to open it and then drive to an apple store to get my applecare+?

I heard you have to buy it the day you get your phone. Safest bet is to walk into an Apple store with your new phone and ask them

@jbell73
I think you misunderstood my question, I wasn't making a statement and thats how you responded to it, I was asking if there is any long term benefit or price benefit from ordering it direct from att?

Anybody else waiting for the charge to show up on their bank statement?

I pre-ordered on the 7th on the charge appeared as a hold all the way until the 12th when the phone was actually shipped, then the charge fell off.

I expected the charge to disappear and fall off for a couple of days, but I definitely expected to see the charge as "processed" and be deducted from my bank account by now...

Not that I'm complaining... Just curious and surprise as to how long it is taking... I'd think AT&T would want to take the money as fast as possible.:p

ordered in store and still cant check status since end of last week. they better not have lost my order...

Cancel your card and when ATT asks for money, tell them you already paid and that your card was stolen. Save you some money lol

You've got to realize we are all more than a little anxious and annoyed by this preorder process with AT&T so it's easy to take things the wrong way or in a way you didn't intend.

As for your question, I don't think there is any particular long term or price benefit from going with AT&T. I went with them mainly because I didn't want my plan to get screwed up during the renewal. Others may have business accounts or geographic reasons that drive their ordering decisions.

My guess is that next launch people will think twice about preordering from AT&T. I sure will.

Next time around directly from Apple for me unless AT&T sees fit to compensate me for my anguish this time around. As I said before, they have until Oct 31 to make good (I ordered on the 8th).

i was able to cancel my order, but now i can't find any iphones in stock anywhere.. anyone have any luck?

Received my order (32G & 64G) on Friday afternoon. To my surprise, FedEx dropped the box off at my front door without so much as ringing the door bell. I would have expected an order like this to have required signature... I know that had I ordered directly from Apple it would have.

Siri & the camera work great... not noticing any difference in network performance and I am certainly not getting HSPA+ speeds. 4S is getting identical speeds to what my 4 was getting even though I am in an HSPA+ area... I've tested the AT&T Mobile Hotspot (Sierra Wireless) 4G device and it blows the 4S away in terms of network speed.
