My backorder status on my white 16gb 4S just went from (1) to (0)... hopefully it will get shipped this week, or this just might be AT&T trying to make me feel better and still have to wait 21-28 days, I preordered on 10/7.......
 
LMAO, if u read my post a few pages back I cancelled my phone order and picked up my phone at the store. Today I received notice that my phone is ship for delivery tomorrow. I'm wondering if I can keep it and they will only charge me the upgrade fee. Anyone has this happen before? Any advice?

If the order is cancelled in AT&T's system, I wouldn't think that you'd get charged for it in any way. You may have just gotten a free 4S, SEND IT THIS WAY! hahaha it'll get here faster than my pre order
 
This is a great resource - how are you doing this? Are you just plugging in different order numbers and checking the status for your same zip?
Pretty much, although a handful of them are from other zip codes, but since we're not a very large metropolitan area, I didn't have to guess too many times on the ones that weren't my same zip code. I just kept working backwards from my order, and stopped once I got to the earliest 10/7 pre-order (and didn't list any non-iPhone 4S orders on my spreadsheet).

I think being a smaller area (this city is 70,000 pop.) hurts us in terms of any of the stores (AT&T, Best Buy, etc) getting any stock for walk-in customers, not to mention how slow it probably is to get pre-order stock allocated to us, too, plus the nearest Apple store is 2 hours away. Just my gut opinion, could be wrong, but us little towns seem to get screwed on big popular stuff like this.

(Especially seeing as none of the 10/7 pre-orders (granted, I don't know what time they pre-ordered) were shipped until 10/19 at the earliest...)

The email they sent me saying they will charge the CC on file. Just don't know what to do, lol. I fell bad for those who are still waiting for their phone and could've had this phone instead AT&T still screw up. It's a 16GB black btw.

Looks like you just have to deny the shipment when they try to deliver it, or bring it into an AT&T store and return it.
 
so i tried (with no success) last weekend to cancel my pre-order. talked to a few departments on the phone, some of which were very helpful and 'tried everything they could' to cancel it. (my local apple store has had the phone in stock - i wanted to just go pick it up there). so yesterday my husbands wallet/credit cards were stolen so i called at&t to use a different card for the payment - since we had to cancel the card i used for my order. canceling the pre-order was a breeze, they offered to either cancel it and reinstate my eligibility, or to let the order proceed / payment decline / provide new payment / get put at the back of the line again. confirmed my upgrade eligibility is back, and i'm now free to go pick it up. thanks at&t. originally ordered on the 7th at 430am or so - but chase flagged the payment and i had to call in on the 8th, which put me to the back of the line.

only ordered online because of the 10 hour wait at apple last year, drove by this time and there were at most 15-20 people in line. can't win.

They will charge you full retail on the phone if you don't return it

Are you sure? The AT&T store called in to cancel for me and when I called in to cancel my wife's order I ask the rep to make sure my order was cancel and she said it was. Makes me wonder if they know I'm using the 4s now.

yeah my pre order came off backorder this past friday and shipped the next day, and will b in my hands tomorrow, so getting off backorder is a great sign dude.

I finally succeeded. After finling complaints with the BBB, FCC, and Calif State Attorney General's office, I received a phone call from AT&T's Office of the President. They have fixed the computer system so that you can now cancel your pre-order if you are tired of waiting. Call: 800-498-1912 x47142

Then go to Apple's website after 9 pm nightly and reserve your iPhone for pickup at an Apple Store the next day WITH NO STANDING IN LINE!

Are you sure? The AT&T store called in to cancel for me and when I called in to cancel my wife's order I ask the rep to make sure my order was cancel and she said it was. Makes me wonder if they know I'm using the 4s now.

Sooner or later their computer system will determine that you were accidentally sent an extra one. If not on this bill, on the next one you will be charged.

I just registered here specifically to respond to this. Like others, I am also lost in back-order hell..

I tried to order early on 10/7 and saw that AT&T was trying to make me change my unlimited data plan (or so I thought - either way, it was early and I wasn't sure, so I thought best to do it in store after work). Placed the order at roughly 5pm EST on 10/7 IN STORE and told 14-21 days. Got my e-mail shortly afterward.

Still checking my status every 20 minutes, still no change in the back-ordered column.

I'm glad yours is on the way, but I have to say I'm a little enraged (ok, a LOT enraged) that a) people ordered after me and are getting the phone and b) people are walking into Apple stores and walking out with phones while I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs.

AT&T has until the full 21 days are up, so 10/28. Once that happens, what are my options for taking out my frustrations on them?


You can file a complaint with: 1) Better Business Bureau, 2) FCC, 3) State Attorney General, and 4) write an email of complaint to AT&T CEO direct. You can also call the AT&T Office of the President at 800-498-1912 x47142 to cancel your "pre-order" and then go to a local retailer to try to pick one up in person.

The problem is that they always will have the fine print and * to back out of anything. In the email you got from AT&T, it says

It doesn't matter how long it takes, they aren't going to do anything about it.

Not entirely correct. Indeed, they cannot predict the shipping time. However, they should not be preventing you from canceling if you are dissatisfied. You can now cancel your order and try your luck with retail or online stores. Furthermore, if enough complaints are registered then they may fix the problem for the next launch.
 
Still backordered as of today:mad: Ordered white 64g online early morning on the 7th and still nothing...I wasn't able to cancel all of last week and decided it would be fastest to just wait it out thinking I would see movement by today. Not sure if i should try and cancel again or keep waiting:confused: I live in Phoenix AZ and nothing in stock anywhere I check.

Did you check with the AT&T store on Camelback? I was in there last week and they had plenty of stock.

yeah my pre order came off backorder this past friday and shipped the next day, and will b in my hands tomorrow, so getting off backorder is a great sign dude.

Thanks man! I really hope so, This has been so annoying and I will never preorder with AT&T AGAIN!
 
After reading reviews about how Verizon had better speeds than AT&T, I decided to switch brands and go Verizon.

It was a surprise to me to learn that with Verizon's CDMA you can't talk and surf at the same time. All my research had missed that fact.

Anyway that's a deal breaker for me, so I cancelled my order and place one in-store with AT&T.

That was the 10th. My order still says back ordered. :(

My friend ordered the 8th ad just got his phone today. I would have had mine too if it weren't for the Verizon thing.

WOW My order (White 64gb 4s) was placed online on the 10th too so i've had no hope of getting mine anytime soon! To hear that an order placed on the 10th is shipping gives me a little hope! Sweet!
 
pre ordered at the AT&T store Oct 7 and my status went from 1 to 0 on back order last thursday. Just got the tracking info two hours ago that I will be receiving it this Wednesday. Fed ex 2 day shipping.
 
I'm in the EXACT same situation as you. Had to go after work as well.. my order wasn't placed until about 2:30PM PST and I got my confirmation e mail immediately. That was the fastest thing AT&T got me, was that confirmation e mail. Haven't been moved ever since.

As for what I'll do by this Friday, if i don't have my phone. I will be demanding high compensation all over their CSR's and being directed from supervisor to supervisor until i get to someone who can do something that calms me down. Thoughts in my mind=half off my phone, next bill free, possibly even free phone. I will escalate this as far as it needs to go. Not because I'm a little kid who wants my phone, but because I felt like this company is just tossing me and many of us around. They dont care about us, don't care about us pre ordering something. People order after me and they get their phone first? This is absolutely ridiculous. Especially for a thriving company such as AT&T.. they should be on top of their game. This company is going to get HELL on a phone if my order isn't here by Friday.

After getting my tracking number, I called ATT premier and asked for a credit due to the inconvienance factor and was able to get a free month of service.
 
Not true-several folks here have had monthly bills credited and $$ added to their account so far.

In my experiences, and it's the vast majority's experience, AT&T's data speeds blow Verizons out of the water as far as 3G goes. Of course, YMMV, but I think if data speed is important to you then you made the right choice.
