It's been about 36 hours since my order went off backorder and still no shipping info..

Update: Well, I just checked and I got a tracking number. It was picked up in Texas, I'm in Alabama. It says overnight shipping but apparently I won't get it until Monday :/ This is annoying..

Hey, be thankful yours is at least on its way! A ton of us are still sitting on backorder, at least you know when you'll get yours, which is before a lot of us will get ours.

Tiny bit of movement today, a 16 GB white shipped this morning. 12 phones left before me, 7 at "0 backordered", 5 on backorder. Was happy to see *something* happen.

Update: 2nd 16 GB white shipped. 11 left, 6 at "0 backordered", 5 on backorder.

2nd update: A 16 GB black shipped too! Now there are only 2 more 16 GB black phones to ship before mine! 5 total at "0 backordered", 5 at backorder.

I hope all of the 10/7 orders and in-store orders come through today and even moreso that AT&T have learned a lesson but probably not.

I have ordered two 32GB White around 7PM on 10/11/11 ?
Using the order status site, I just worked backwards from my order number, using the same zip code but changing the order number. A few of the orders had different zip codes, but since this isn't a huge city, they were easy to guess. I only kept 4S orders for my list. If you received an email confirmation that gave you an order number (mine was 72, for example), you can use that and work your way backwards. The status will show you when the order was made, whether it's still backordered or if/when it shipped. Hope that helps.

I have two white 16gigs on the order...i hope i come off backorder soon! I might go crazy. I had an android phone until ordering this...and it broke on the 21st so am stuck with an old flip phone from like 8 years ago until my iphones come in!
 
I finally got mine yesterday 32 gb black, it's going back to the AT&T store, very upset about this hole hassle with AT&T

I am returning mine too. There's been too many instances of disrespect, misinformation, and customer hostile policies associated with this purchase.

I'm not all that excited about this update to begin with. I'd rather buy a used iP4 off contract and go with the best provider come iP5 launch time.

"I apologize if orders placed after yours being shipped before your order. The online forums are probably not telling the whole scenario. Please be aware that online orders and store orders come from different inventory. Store inventory has always been separate from online inventory, and the iPhone 4S is no different."

Since the in-store pre-orders are being fulfilled direct from warehouses, I don't quite buy that they are coming "from different inventory", which, yeah maybe they still are, but it's still ridiculous and completely contradicts their "all orders processed on a first come first served basis" claim. I replied by saying I can see I'm getting nowhere but feel free to send a credit our way for the frustration and misleading "first come first served" cr@p.

I have a similar complaint in with the BBB. Even if people are flat-out lying about receiving their phones on here (which let's face it - you have to be really bored and lowdown to stoop to that level), AT&T needs to challenge that by SHOWING ME that they are actually fulfilling orders on a first come, first serve basis and not just say so. If I can present ONE ORDER that was fulfilled out of queue it destroys their argument completely.

Also interesting that they questioned the integrity of the message boards and then IMMEDIATELY back-tracked over their claim by clarifying their inventory stocks. I would have no problem if my order said, "first come, first served basis* " with the asterisk containing language such as "Note: online inventory differs from store inventory and as such online orders may be fulfilled first." However, that wasn't there, so we have a problem.

I am pushing for free phones. I'll settle for credit.




EDIT: As I finished this the guy before me got his tracking number.. won't be long now.
 
Well, here is my update -

Preordered a white 64gb iPhone 4s on 10/7 at 1:55am from ATT.com

Got confirmation that my phone would be delivered on the 14th.

No phone was delivered (you saw that coming I bet... :D)

I checked the online order status, and here my phone was still listed as "Backordered".

Fast forward 3 weeks to 10/27. My phone goes off Backordered, finally, and on 10/28 I get a FedEx tracking number showing the phone should be delivered by 10/31.

I am still disappointed in AT&T for telling me when I ordered that my phone would be delivers 10/14. I mean they had it in writing when I ordered, and on my order confirmation too.

I'm very suspicious that they said this knowing they couldn't deliver just so they could lock in our orders.

Well, best wishes everyone else who preordered on the 7th. There is indeed light at the end of the tunnel. LOL And in the long run, it turned out to be only to be 2-3 weeks longer than promised.

Curious that on the 21st day they seem to be shipping out... almost like they've been giving them out to other people who ordered because they knew they had until the 28th to ship them to us 10/7-ers.
 
The last 2 orders from 10/7 finally shipped, 2 32 GB white phones. 2 10/8 orders are left, both at "0 backordered". 6 10/10 orders are left before me, one of those at "0 backordered", the rest backordered.

Still 2 16 GB black phones left to ship before mine, one of them is at "0 backordered".

It's ridiculous how excited I get when I see another person's order gets a tracking number. :)
 
It's also obvious to me because look at all of the availability at various sellers and at apple every night online for next day pickup.That should never happen as long as there are outstanding orders from 3 weeks prior.:mad:

...and, as a nice final kick to the junk, the order DIRECTLY after mine has shipped and mine hasn't. The kicker? MY WIFE'S PHONE is the order directly after mine. Same color, same size.

This is the same wife that HASN'T obsessively been checking her status every 20 minutes. Nothing like a "hey! I just got an e-mail from AT&T - my phone shipped!" text.

Most of the orders from my location have shown tracking numbers about one day after going to "0 backordered". A few were 2 days (still showing a few on my list that went to "0 backordered" on 10-26 like you), and one was 3 days. Sorry if that's not much help.
