my 10/9 order shipped today. It had came off back order on Tuesday. And funny enough I pay my bill today that wasn't due till 11/7 and it ships. Seems kinda shisty.

My 10/9 store order/16 GB White shipped today as well.

Because of the sour experience and my desire not to be on contract with ATT come iPhone 5 release, I'm trying to snipe a iPhone 4 on eBay and plan to return this.

Refuse or return to store? I'm assuming I'll have to fight over a restocking fee in the store if I shall accept the package? Refusing deliver brings up a bunch of uncertainty as well.

Any advice?

Location: Las Vegas

Hey FexEx, the shortest distance between Fort Worth Texas and Las Vegas Nevada is not via Memphis Tennessee. Bring my phone back to the West!

So you talk on your phone while driving?:p Must be a heck of a long drive for 4 dead spots from AT&T.And once again, you talk while driving?Do you text too?:(
I know this is OT but I have seen the consequences firsthand.

----------

I say yes but why order form them when there are so many other options?

Yes I do text while driving but it depends on the situation. Also at red lights. While waiting for my burger at Wendy's. Etc.

The commute I refer to is 8 miles. Four dead spots. One of the spots is at a slow intersection which means I'm idling my car in bumper traffic and am off the network completely for about six minutes. Infuriating.

I'm not clear on why you paid penalties and why you didn't like the Verizon phone. Perhaps I'm missing something.

I agree with you that it's noteworthy how you and I have had pretty much opposite experiences with these two brands. I do make it a point to tell my friends and colleagues that it's my commute's dead spots that heavily tips the balance in favor of Verizon. I do recognize that it is possible for other areas to be different. In those cases, AT&T may be a better choice because of talk and surf. I would still guess that the next iphone, when released, would be far more of a challenge to acquire from AT&T than Verizon, but who can be sure of that?

I'm curious what you're stating about upgrade penalties.

I understand, but overall At&T HSPA+ is made for the iphone 4s and is much faster than Verizon's 3 g speeds. (Sprint too) If the next couple of iphones are LTE compatible (depending where At&T is with their LTE network) I may switch to Verizon too, but right now Im getting like 4g speeds ( HSPA+) with At&t in an area that has good radio coverage. Verizon is the most expensive of the big three. :D

I think the deal breaker is an unlimited data plan, if you got one stick with it because you will never get it as a new customer. I think will be the number one reason people will stick with current carrier and people without unlimited data plans are most likely to jump around until they find better service area.

True, but Sprint has unlimited Data and their 3 g speeds are Slooooooow compared to At&t and Verizon. When you buy any smartphone I believe people want faster internet speeds than unlimited data.

I'm still waiting for a 10/09 preorder so you give me hope that my phone is out there. :)

Unless you have a burning desire to leave ATT, you may want to just keep your already shipped phone. My guess is your 4s resale next year would help cover the early upgrade. They have handled this preorder poorly but once you get the phone you'll deal with the usual issues that all carriers have.

If you do dump ATT, it's hard to say what the best way is to deal with the shipped phone. I would check in with the store if you can even bring it in there for return. You would think that a sealed package would not be dinged a restocking fee, but I'm not sure and my guess is store dependent. It would make me nervous to just refuse and hope they get it back, don't charge you etc. There are a few threads on that issue. You may want to do a forum search and see what experiences people have had.

My vote would be to keep the 4s. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

One 16 GB white phone shipped tonight, a second one went to "0 backordered". Apart from those, the only ones left before mine are two 32 GB white phones and one 16 GB black phone (like mine). So close I can almost taste it!

My mistake I meant 2. Has anyone else not been charged?

My phone shipped on Friday and will be here Monday, but still no charge. Definitely not as long as you, but they said I'd be charged once it ships. I'm not going to go out of my way to make sure that the money is in my bank account for months on end by holding back on my spending. They need to take it soon if they want it.

EDIT: Also, everyone's phones are being picked up from Fort Worth, Texas.. my phone was picked up by Fedex from Memphis, TN ?

I got one black last Wednesday (ordered in store 10/7 5pm) getting a white one one Monday (ordered 10/7 5pm) and another black one Monday (ordered 10/9 11am). both blacks shipped from TX, and the white from TN.

Hey folks. I ordered a 16gb White on 10/17 through premier. My phone came off backorder, and I received a tracking number today! It will be here Monday. This thread made me depressed, but there is hope for all of y'all.

Need advice.

When I ordered in-store on 10/10 they signed me up to a 24 month contract.

Since then, I've been waiting and still 20 days later it's still on back order.
In the meantime I purchased a Verizon iPhone and started a 24 month contract with them.

I'm assuming the AT&T ordered phone AND contract can be cancelled without penalty , correct?

I'm worried that AT&T may try to stick me to the new contract. My claim will be that the contract was dependent on the phone, which wasn't delivered on time.

So at the moment I have an AT&T iPhone 4 and a Verizon 4s. I need to port the number from the 4 to the 4s. I'll then give my 4 to my wife and she'll port her existing number on her iPhone 3 over to the 4.

Any advice on where I should go first? I was thinking first to Verizon to port the number. After that, go to AT&T to cancel the order for the 4S and cancel my line. After that, have my wife's number moved to the iPhone 4.

Does that sound like a good strategy?

You have to cancel the number on the other service before it can be ported to the new service. I know because I had to do so when I got my current dumbphone (now upgrading to 4S)

Excellent-only 2 days for me and counting.;)

It's been 3 weeks since I got my phone and I haven't been charged yet.

You mean if I go to Verizon and ask them to put my AT&T number on their line they'll tell me no?

Yeah, actually I did just that. My original phone was on Verizon. We went to AT&T to get me a new phone, and to transfer the number. They said I had to go to Verizon, and cancel the line/number first, THEN go and set up the number under AT&T

Good news!

I place my order exactly ten days ago (10-20). I just received my shipping notifications email from AT&T. My 16GB black is now shipped and It should be here on Monday by 3:00 pm. I honestly didn't expect to get my phone until Thanksgiving at the earliest...
