As I just said a few posts ago, there is a delay between transferring from Premier to the main AT&T order system. Same thing happened with last year, and with the 3GS. I have been through this twice now, freaked out both time when on backorder the day before the phone was supposed to come, yet both times have had my phone on launch day.

Hell, for the 3GS, FedEx screwed up my delivery and a manager personally drove it to me in his car after hours :D

Okay thanks for the reassurance! This is my first yime pre-ordering with AT&T! So if it's coming fedex I'll have to sign for it? If I'm at work how can I notify them to hold it at the shipping center if I don't have a tracking number or should I expect to have one by then?

You may be able to electronic sign for it once your tracking number is issued on the AT&T website. I am not sure because this is my first pre order as well.

Why are people who ordered from Apple posting on an ATT pre-order thread???

There is no Apple thread so they are posting in their respective carrier's thread.

For those that ordered through Premier, do all of you have a pre-auth or pending charge? I have nothing on my CC (the same one I pay my bill with) nor have I received any emails regarding the order other than my order receipt showing my purchase and estimated ship date. What have you received from AT&T?

Premiere here. No pre-auth either.

Same thing happened with the iPhone 4. Everyone thought Premier customers got screwed. Freaking out ensued for page after page in the forums. But late Thursday night everyone was given a tracking number and all had phones on Friday.

I resemble that remark! ;)

I am a huge fan of Costco or Sams Club. I wouldn't be surprised it if they already have the damn phones.

I was suggesting that because Sam's Club has iPhones has no bearing on when other people get theirs. Apple's probably been making these 4S's for a while now. Plenty to go around, for the early pre-orderers at any rate.

HUGE Costco fan BTW. Live two blocks from one. :D

warehouses and debit cards

They don't take debit cards because they don't want to deal with insufficient funds in the account and having to contact you about it, holding up inventory and shipment. If you have draft protection on your debit/checking account it should process like a credit card.

After talking to ATT yesterday, not all the phones are shipping from China. You could have ordered before 5:30pm on Oct. 7th and get your tracking number on the 12th or 13th and still get your phone on Oct. 14th. It all just depends on how the carrier is expediting orders. you probably can be nervous if you are in the first batch and you don't get your tracking number by the 12th.

I believe if you ordered from att then the reason we haven't gotten tracking info is because they are getting a bulk shipment from china then all the individual shipments will be shipped Thursday from the us. When you login it says preorders will be shipped on or around the 13th which would make sense if they are getting normal over night shipping from somewhere in the us.

I really hope for the sake of their customer service representatives that they atleast print up the shipping labels soon. I don't think the people here will be able to contain themselves if they don't hear anything by tomorrow.

You are probably correct.

That's the point of them putting a authorized hold on your account to be sure that the funds are there. I used a debit card last Friday and my order has had no issues in regards to payment.

Have you ever wondered how they will manage to ship 200,000 phones in a day or two? Maybe they won't actually be fulfilling all of the 200,000 orders initially, but it's a fascinating logistical consideration. Do they hire 2,000 people to spend a day shipping 100 iPhones? Is it all automated? Just something to muse on while I wait...

What I don't get it is, once you are in the order system, what do people think they CS reps are going to say?? Nothing helpful ever comes out of the call, then people come here pissed because the reps are "misleading idiots" for not being able to tell them anything besides what they can clearly see online.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

In some sick sort of way, I kind of enjoy going through this every year.

I dunno this is my first time preordering I usually either wait in line or walk into an apple store a month later and get it. I did it this way this year because I wanted to save myself the launch day stress and I dunno this may be just as stressful if not more. It started by taking an hour and a half to place the order cause the sites were slammed and now you see all the horror stories of system glitches and orders cancelled......it's nice to get the phone delivered to your house and avoid the stores but it's def not without stress entirely.

I work in the supply chain business, and I must say this whole process is absolutely mind-blowing. The ability to do this all in a week really is a testament of how far real time technology has brought us.

Kids these days.... not more than 10 years ago, ANYTHING your ordered had to be done over the phone and took 6-8 weeks at least!

FedEx averages about 85,000 shipments daily. Considering probably not all 200,000 will ship and deliver on the 14th , it shouldn't be anything outrageous for them to handle.

LoL I dunno man it confuses me too. And some folks are simply mean , for no reason, as if it's the CSRs fault. SMH.

I pre-ordered over the phone because I can't access my account over the internet due to the fact that it's a business account.

My question is, is there any way to check my order status besides the link they provided in the email they sent me immediately after I ordered?

https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status

This is the only way I know how to check. Besides, obviously calling att & having them check.

So is that link the way everyone's been checking?

The 85000 is strictly FedEx freight. Ground and express handle an average of 3.5 million packages a day each.

Lol maybe a little dramatic but if you think about it at least in the store there are no guarantees unless your at the front of the line. When you preorder you assume your all set so having something snatched right out from under you on a glitch when you thought you were all set is more stressful then going in knowing there is no guarantee your going to get it haha.
