AT&T iPhone 4S Pre-Order Status Thread

Why not Apple.com
Just wondering why people here ordered through AT&T? Even worse, through the so called Premier, which is anything but premier IMHO.
I ordered on Friday around noon on Apple.com and all of the iPhones (3) are set for delivery on 14th. Admittedly 2 of them shipped "late", yesterday (Wednesday) night but they come UPS Worldwide Express and they are scheduled for Friday. Also I only got email confirmation for one of them, but using the "phone number as a reference" trick I could find the other shipment too. The third one goes to a different address in a different state and it does not look as processed yet. I called Apple and they assured me it is set for Friday delivery and there are no issues. At 1800-MYAPPLE someone picked up the phone right away and has been very kind and sympathetic.
At the Premier store (I ordered a dumbphone for someone else on the family plan through them) they were claiming high call volumes and estimated 30 min wait times. Admittedly they were kind too when they finally picked up, no issues there.
*Forgot to add here that the Premier store just put my order on hold for further verification but it didn't seem as they were going to contact me about it. This has caused a delay of at least 2 days for the dumbphone, but probably longer because it is not shipped yet, although I called them myself yesterday and passed the verification they wanted. Compare that to overnight or 2 days shipping most carriers and cellular dealers offer.
Also my understanding is that folks not ordering through Apple.com are missing out on the opportunity to buy Applecare+. If it is worth buying is a different matter, however you can only buy it at the same time with the iPhone, and you can always change your mind and cancel it later but you can not change your mind and add it later.

I got tracking number from UPS using reference
ok so the apple website states " preparing for shipment" I went to UPS.com, went under track by reference, entered my zip and my phone # associated with my account and wow! magic.. schedule to recieved on Friday by end of day and now I have my tracking number... go for it

I received my shipping notification yesterday morning.
It arrived in Alaska yesterday afternoon.

I just registered for My Choice so I could do this since my phone is showing as being shipped to a different state.
So, I got an email from ATT that could cause some issues for people trying to track their orders:

This ABSOLUTELY works. If he has it on his truck, and you catch him in the neighborhood, more times then not (unless he's a total douche) he will let you sign for it right then and there. Actually, they are usually more then happy to do it because it knocks a stop off their list.
You can get Applecare later if you want to. I did that with my last iPhone. Unless Applecare is different than Applecare+....
thats because the 64 will last much longer because most people were buying 16 or 32
You know im taking friday off for that reason because nobody will be there so i'll be siting front of my doorstep.... but now my dilemma is that what if it gets delivered tomorrow Thursday...now I wont be home...last time UPS left left my package to a nearby neighbor because I wasnt home! The neighbors were nice enough to retrun my package...i asked the UPS guy here at my work and he said all apple orders need signature since they are high value, but i've read somewhere else they dont so i'm in the same dilemma and the worst thing is now we cant track our packages...my UPS guy ALSO told me once you get a tracking number either FEDEX or UPS you can call them and ask them to send it to another location...I just dont want to do that because what if they screw up and delivery elsewhere! What a nightmare!
Agreed, but at least you have a status. I still get the page with the red writing, so I have NO idea when I'll get the phone!
Mine shipped via Fedex, on the status page it says it was shipped on the 9th, but I been checking it, it didn't show shipped to late last night, this morning got the tracking number via email.
I ordered at 1AM PST, or the second ATT page went live, I gave up trying to order on apple.com for 20 mins.

Most people were trying to order through Apple but could not get orders to go through due to AT&T's verification system for Premier members. When ordering finally opened up, all you could do was make a reservation to come back the next day and order through Apple, while AT&T had finally started letting Premier members order through their website.
I wanted to order through Apple, but it just wouldn't let me, so I went with AT&T's site. My order is showing as shipped and should arrive Friday, so no worries here
With past iPhone releases a signature was required. I doubt this year will be any different.
Once your tracking info is available on the FedEx web site, you should be able to pre-sign for the package and accept the risk of having it left at the destination address.

If the above post doesn't help, call Fedex and see if you will have to sign. If you do have to sign, see if they can waive the sig and just leave the package. Both UPS and Fedex have done this for me in the past. Just don't count on it. Sometimes they just can't (won't) change it.
Something's happening with my ATT.com order. I don't have a tracking number yet and my shipment status is still "Processing", but now the "Shipping Date" column has a date in it: 10/11/2011. That's yesterday.

I've only been seeing people with their orders saying shipped at this point. Anyone who ordered on the 7th (mine is a white 16gb) that still says backordered? I'm really thinking this won't work out in my favor at this point...
