I am confused. I'd like to understand why anybody actually needed to order through the AT&T site versus ordering direct from Apple.

This year I ordered from AT&T because it was online first. In all other years I have ordered direct from Apple. I have never lost my grandfathered unlimited data plan.

The only reason that might make sense is if the next plan requires that you get your phone directly from AT&T?

No. If you have an old plan and you want subsidy, you must order via ATT and ATT only.

No they told me if I canceled my order online I would take some time to reactivate my upgrade status. And I wouldn't be able to walk out that day with one they had unless I opened another line. They may have just told me that because a lot of people would try to the the same. Im not sure.

I wouldn't chance it. Could take 72 hours to reset. Last time I waited in line the guy in front of me cancelled his online order 3 days before and assumed the upgrade would be there, it wasn't. He was not to happy and Apple couldn't do anything.

My phone number wasn't yet upgrade-eligible but my wife's was, so I had to order through AT&T because their website allows you to transfer upgrade eligibility amongst different phone numbers under the same account.

The last time I had to use my wife's upgrade eligibility I was able to order a new iPhone through Apple using her phone number then switch SIM cards when I actually received the phone. However, I'm not entirely sure that'll still work and I didn't want to take a chance. If I need to wait until October to get my phone because of all of this then so be it.

Wow there's some of you that have your orders preparing for shipment already?
Mine is but I don't think that's much of a big deal. I don't think they screwed up and are going to ship early or anything. I just think that once it's done processing, the next thing is preparing for shipment and that could mean it's coming from China and needs more time to get here then shipping from some holding point in the USA or its gonna be packaged and left to sit in some UPS warehouse until next week.

I had no idea I could transfer the upgrade ability, but I've always just upgraded the eligible line, and the years it was my wife's, I just took the phone into an OFFICIAL AT&T store, and they swapped it around. Earlier on a simple Sim Switch worked, but the last 3-4 iPhones it didn't work and a trip to the store was necessary. The years that I could (before stupid Apple or Stupid AT&T decided a 2 year contract renewal shouldn't be an option from the Apple website) I upgraded through the apple website and transfer of the upgrade in the store was a non-issue.

I guess now that we are all moved/moving to "Preparing to Ship" there is not much else to obsess over. Fingers crossed, even though I know launch delivery is unlikely (especially for us Rose Gold people).

If you ordered via ATT right at 12am. pst did you get a Oct 16-23 ship date for 6s+? Just wondering if anyone who ordered 6s+ through ATT got a sep. 25 ship date. Does Oct 16-23 mean Oct 16-23 still?

I think most, if not all, got the same 16-23 no matter at what time they ordered. Last year, many people, including me, got their devices before the estimated ship date.

I got my order off for a 64GB iPhone 6S+ at 2:55 EDT and it still an estimated shipping date of October 16-23. The order status online still says "in progress" as well. I have only seen a few people with an earlier order than mine and they also have the October shipping date.

Just finish chatting with a ATT representative and got the same useless information. She said the date is just estimated and our order could arrive sooner depends on inventory. And she also refused to waive my activation because the new phone will come with a new SIM card and it needs to be activated. My old SIM card won't work.

I believe you are right even though some may not believe it ;)
Im not saying that you are wrong, I'm just telling you want my experience was with the 6 launch last time. Im sure you are accurate. They told me at att store that I could cancel but it would take a couple days for my status to reset. Like I said they may have just told me that to keep me from canceling my order. I don't know. I then called the att premier number and they told me the same thing so?

You can still do Next through Apple but I think if you're Premiere you have to go through AT&T. I'm going to do mine through Apple or at least try.

Getting your upgrade fee waived is going to be a lot harder. No matter how long you've been with the company. It's a fee everyone pays. There really isn't special treatment for one person over another. It is what it is. Phone service is expensive now days

To be 100% sure you get the A1633/34 Band 30 (2300mhz) iPhone. If you care about that.

How can you be sure that this is the phone you are receiving?

IMHO you will get the A1633 if ordered thru ATT. If thru Apple it could be another model that will work, but not the A1633. This is just my opinion from trying to remember what I read. I would have to go back and research, but I believe there is another model that will work on ATT and does not have the 30 Band. Again, al in MHO. :)

Just sharing my 2 cents. Haven't read through all the questions/comments. So I did the iPhone 6 preorder last year through AT&T premier site. I remember getting my phone (4-5 days after launch) after ordering 4 minutes before midnight. I had a target date 4 weeks after launch and at one point it was like mid November. The day before I got my phone I received my tracking number and it was already on it's way. I would expect the same behavior for most of you folks in here.

Never again will I deal with AT&T premier. No one in AT&T customer support would ever directly answer me. Tweets/Phone Calls/Live Person web chat. This year I ordered through Apple's web app about 30 mins after preorders went live. And have had no issues with my order thus far. There was a billing error on apple's side, and I called in spoke with a manager and she took care of it, and even followed up with me the next day on her own time. Apple support is why we pay the premium price.

This is not the case. If you start an order for the iPhone 6s Space Grey 64GB AT&T model at Apple, you see part# MKQ92LL/A. This part# cross-references to the A1633 model#.

Yes I did. I ordered at 12:02am PT and still got the 16-23 shipping dates.

I have yet to get the text many people have got from AT&T saying this order has processed. My online status says "preparing to ship."

It's very simple - If you have a premier (business) account, you can not order through Apple, period. No way shape or form. You can't even buy a phone outright because when it asks you to verify your ATT account it will come back and say that this account is not eligible to buy directly from Apple and to piss up a rope :D

Yup, preparing to ship here. I feel like that means little more than that the order has been fully processed.

This must be new because I've had an AT&T Premier account since the iPhone 3GS and have been able to order directly through the Apple website every year except this one.

I get a FAN discount and seem to HAVE to go through ATT Premier every year - even though there is NO discount on anything Apple. Apple store wouldn't even sell me an iPhone when they found out I was ATT Premier / FAN at least twice in previous years. Couldn't tell you why. So I sadly don't even mess with Apple when it comes to buying an iPhone. Just a waste of time (and a 60+ mile drive for me).
