Medgirl2001, If I were you I call retention and ask them for 20 dollars messaging plan. It is 20 dollars for all lines combined. They don't give to you, hang up and call again. 550 plan has no SMS plan, but they can also do it for you. 550 has only 3 lines on the plan and they cannot change it, alrast for me, so I stopped on 700.

I have a family talk 700 plan. I haven't gotten a text, but I noticed a few days ago that it said unlimited minutes on the website.

I'm tempted to drop down to the 550 minute plan, but I'm confused by the text messaging options. Right now I have the family unlimited messaging/unlimited mobile-to-mobile plan for $30, but it isn't compatible with the 550 minute plan. Does anyone know what the text option is for the 550 minute plan? Is the $20 messaging plan total for all of the lines combined or is it $20 per line?

The plan you have is family messaging unlimited with free mobile to any mobile. It's no longer offered and that's why it must be removed when you downgrade. You can simply add the current $30 family messaging unlimited plan after downgrading to the 550. Then after you've done that, call retentions and ask them to give you family messaging unlimited for $20/month. (The $20 plan you can select online is only for a single line so you don't want that one.)

When I call retention, what do I ask for, to get the price dropped on my messaging plan? I have two lines, so I have $30 Family Messaging Unlimited. It looks like the $20 plan is only individual.

No 20 dollars is for all the lines , it is mobile to any mobile with unlimited texts. I don't need M2M now, but texts are good.

I had the unlimited national minutes plan, unlimited text and unlimited Data on a 2 year contract and was paying 130.00 dollars. I just went to change my plan to the national 450 minutes and keep the same unlimited data and text and it says I paying 90 dollars a month and checked the minutes and it says "unlimited" for some reason I think there is a glitch. If this is not a glitch then all customers will be paying a lot less if they have the selected national unlimited minutes package and AT&T will discount all national plans accordingly

I am on the Nation 450 minutes. It says "unlimited " too. I was paying attention and when I talk, for example, five minutes during daytime I do get the five minutes deducted from the 450. So, like you mentioned, it could be a glitch.

Yes the $20 plan you can select online is only individual. Only retention can give you the $20 family unlimited messaging. Just say you've seen people on a forum are getting the family messaging for $20 and you'd like it too.

I switched today from 1400 to 700 and now I start to get charge for every call $0.45/min Look at your account

That's bad... I am switching away from my old Cingular plan, with UM2M, to the National 700 Family Talk, with the hope that it will upgrade to Unlimited. My situation is so bad that no-one can make the change. It had to go to a special team.

Maybe you have a glitch and you need to get on chat.. Don't call in, that's for trainees. Get on line and chat with CSRs those are the reps that have been around for a while, they know what they are talking about, I have found. Let them review your account and find out why you were charged.

I just got text this morning. Upgraded to unlimited minutes.

I have the family talk with 700 min and unlimited data. We already have thousands of rollover minutes so unlimited isn't really that appealing to me :)

Awesome, thank you. Just did this ("my friend has three lines with unlimited texting for $20, and I'd like the same rate") and got my bill lowered. Only had to try once. I was super nice to the person on the phone, but did mention I've been with them since Cingular.

Now I'm paying about $130 for two lines, 550 (now unlimited) minutes, unlimited texting, one unlimited (22gb) data and one 2gb data, after FAN discount. Pretty pleased with AT&T right now.

That's strange. Does your account say 'unlimited anytime minutes' when you check online?
The fact that ATT has been texting people indicates it's a real thing that people are getting.

Must be a unique issue with your account that I'm sure CS can resolve. As suggested use the chat or call retentions if you want someone that can actually help.

That as soon as I change my plan all next calls start to charge .45 cents They did look and added 1000 minutes and so far no more charges

Keep an eye out. It may roll over faster than you use up that 1000. I have over 4000 rollover minutes on my FT600 plan, and unfortunately this is a bandaid that's really difficult to test. Unless you can burn through 1000 minutes - 16 hours and 40 minutes of talk time.

Sure the charges will drop.

For the "unlimited" crew on FT 700. Are your minutes ticking down? I think if you are true unlimited, then you should not see any reductions. If you do have minutes used, then how do you know you are truly unlimited? What happens after 700?

What I would like to know is if you are on nation Unlimited Talk before all these changes. What will AT&T do for the users who have been on Nation Unlimited Talk all this time ?

Some have been downgrading from Nat FT 1400 to 700 and 550... If you only have two/three lines go down to 550. Unlimited is maintained. It seems to be an attribute of the account and not the plan, but you have to be both a long term customer and on a legacy account.

It would be my interpretation that this is how they will remove the subsidy. They put us on par with the more recent plans, while not reducing how much we pay, then eliminate the subsidy. Then it's just a logical move to adopt a modern plan, that you would not do, because you had both unlimited and subsidy.

I don't know, but it seems logical.

I actually have to upgrade from my Cingular plan to get into this deal. It's $10 more/moth. But if I get Nation Unlimited, it's worth it. Any other modern plan, as it is, costs $70 more. However for $70/mo, I would not be limited to just my state, but now be able to call Canada, US, Mexico 24/7 Unlimited.

Current Family Talk Unlimited is $70 base, + $45/extra line per month... This is crazy expensive and really your move should be Family Share. The unfortunate thing is UDP being razed to 22GB.... To get this on Family Share, is crazy expensive. With my two lines, I am talking about 50GB to match and I think that is over $300/mo. But last month, to match would be the 15GB. That's about $150...

Certainly cheaper than FT Unlimited. If you drop to FT 700, you will save a ton of money, it would just be a gamble. It would suck if you didn't get unlimited.

I wanted to report back on what happened to my account.

Was: FT9 SHom 600R UM2M
The base price was: $39.99
No unlimited minutes, but UM2M. Since we text all the time, really is this important.

Oh, by the way. I got to keep my 4000+ rollover minutes. That didn't get wiped out. Normally it's wiped.

Now: FamilyTalk Nation 700 with Rollover
The base price is: $60

Plan Details

  • Anytime Minutes: Unlimited
  • Nights and Weekend Minutes: Unlimited
  • Mobile to Mobile Minutes: Unlimited
  • Rollover Minutes: Included
  • Long Distance: $0.00
  • Roaming: $0.00
  • Additional Minutes: $0.45
So I thought I was only going to pay $10 more. But in reality I am going to pay $14.00 to $16.60 more, with 17% FAN discount. From month to month taxes go up and down, but mostly up, by pennies. If I examine my last three months bills, my cost goes up by $14. But if I compare over 12 months, the cost goes up by $16.

In reality, based on usage and charges, after credits and complaints, etc. My costs do not go up at all. They remain the same. Before I was getting charged extra, calling from Chicago, or DC., even the next state over, from my home state. But now that should not happen anymore. Certainly my base cost goes up, but my surcharges do not.

If you can, I do suggest switching, if you have 3 or less lines, go for 550 plan. If you are like me, go for 700.

I`m a little confused on what it is you guys are doing ? I`m on 700 plan with $20 messaging UDP for 2 lines. I also noticed that it says unlimited now... Are you guys saying I should downgrade to 550 minutes now ?

Downgrade or keep the same. This depends on your number of lines and what you plan to do in the future.

If you have two lines, sure downgrade. You won't loose the unlimited, and you save a few bucks. If you have 4 lines, then you are like me, and 700 is the lowest you can go.

Others have dropped from 1400 to 700, without loss of benefits.

Just called Att and asked them if I can go back to 700 minutes, the plan that I had- no problem.
I asked them if I could cancel M2M with free SMS 20 plan - no problem, was told that is a feature and can be removed or modified any time.

I asked them since I'm on the contract and they changed my plan I can open a billing dispute. Att is getting wiser now :)

550 plan they offered me with M2M + SMS for 20 dollars, but I want to have more than 3 lines.

I don't mind to pay extra for international SMS, like 5-10 dollars per account.

This is SMS plans I can choose from:
