Medgirl2001, If I were you I call retention and ask them for 20 dollars messaging plan. It is 20 dollars for all lines combined. They don't give to you, hang up and call again. 550 plan has no SMS plan, but they can also do it for you. 550 has only 3 lines on the plan and they cannot change it, alrast for me, so I stopped on 700.

Thanks to you and dancefreak and everyone for talking about this. Retention changed our family messaging plan to the $20 one without any trouble. I'm still not sure about moving to fewer minutes than the 700 plan, more because I'm not sure if we might want to be able to have four lines in the future, but changing the messaging is a nice savings.

I tried doing this via online chat, the $20 messaging unlimited plan instead of the $30 a month I am paying. I also wanted to lower my monthly rate from 700 to 550 but was told it wouldn't reduce my cost.
I have the grandfathered unlimited data, FamilyTalk Nation 700 with Rollover ( I have 7000 roll over minutes LOL) and pay $30 a month for unlimited text with free m2m. I also wanted to see if I could get my $45 activation fee removed for my new 6s.
They gave me half price credit for the activation and instead of lowering my monthly plan to the 500 and reducing my unlimited messaging they gave me a one time credit of $90. I guess its better then nothing but I'm kind of confused.

Really happy for you. In our life we pay 10$ here and there and have nothing left :)

Chat is not the best option, try to call retention dept. (cancellation department)

Nice! Glad it worked out!

So do you just straight up call them and ask for the lower plan? Or do you have to beat around the bush a little?

i called earlier today. so, when i called, i picked the option that said something about cancelling. then there was another option to talk to a representative about cancelling. a rep answered and asked what i needed and i said, "my friend pays 20 dollars for unlimited family text and i'd like that too." she said, okay, give me a second. and that was that :)

I did called and they say for $20 it is only per line and not for family messaging

I also got unlimited calling without doing any upgrades.

It was confirmed to the press pretty much everywhere a couple weeks ago.

I just read through the rest of the thread and see now.. I never knew. Good stuff. Now I need to confirm if they updated my Nationwide 450 call minutes to unlimited. If they did, I'm golden.

*Update*
The updates take effect for all of the grandfathered plans effective the first day of the current billing cycle. Awesome... Unlimited Minutes!!

I have not received the text yet from AT&T about the upgrade to unlimited minutes. If I go to plan details it show unlimited anytime minutes but when I check minutes used it shows 200 used of 717 including rollover left. So I am confused so I have unlimited minutes ? Does anyone else show this on there account?

I called. I have a premier account. I was told tha it was not possible to change the plan because the 550 doesn't exists anymore. I have 3 lines.

Call them again. CS reps are different. It took me 3 calls to have my upgrade fees waived. Not even think what they think about you. Good luck.

Mine is the same way. It currently shows my Nation 450 plan with remaining minutes and rollover minutes. The CS rep checked and stated that the grandfathered individual/family plans were automatically upgraded at the beginning of the current billing cycle. Mine started Sep 18th and I never received a text. She said it will reflect online at the beginning of the next billing cycle.
